Hi Josh. I purchased a Garmin dash cam based on one of your previous reviews. I was having a problem linking the camera with the app however, that has been resolved. I switched to a much larger memory card. I agree about the 4k clarity the 1080 works fine for me. My husband purchased a couple off brand names for the other vehicles and they work no problems with very clear filming. Thanks for the review on the new product.
Josh I have to agree - my Garmin dashcam (67W) has had no issues with the heat. I live in a suburb of Phoenix, AZ and it has been rock solid even in 115+ degrees. I have zero desire to upgrade to any other dashcam. Garmin cams are brilliant.
I have on older models… all the alerts seem to happen about a second later than I would want them to which to me makes them semi useless because by then I’d have noticed things myself. It doesn’t feel as well calibrated as the systems that are built into most cars these days.
Thanks Josh. Do you have an install video as well? That would be super helpful to see how you route the wires. Also do you have one in the rear as well or just the front
Hello! I do, and you can find that here: ua-cam.com/video/sGD-93mAtPo/v-deo.html As for rear, we don’t have one in any of our cars; routing wiring for that in a crossover with a liftgate or barn door can be quite tricky.
Had my tandem for 3 years then it just stopped working a couple of weeks ago. Hence why I am on this site trying to source some advice on getting a new model.
If you live in Texas ..definitely worth it. It’s the number one deadly car accident state. Just moved here from Utah and man drivers here are bad bad. I bought one today after leasing a car yesterday 👍🏽
Thank you for the video. For one, I didn't realize until re-reading the specs the x310 had a battery for Park Guard. I was reading other comments that tipped me off. I assumed you needed an OBD2 power cable to utilize Park Guard. My only concern, and this may be due to UA-cam quality is @9:13 I couldn't read the plate on the truck in front of you. The reason it's important to read plates is a family member had items stolen from their car (while it was running) and it was dark out. My concern is this would wash out any opportunity to get plate information.
Hello! Yes, all their cameras except for the Mini models have an internal battery. Because of this, you don’t need to use the OBD2 adapter for parking guard if you don’t want to. As for license plates, if your vehicle’s headlights are directly on the vehicle ahead of you, you won’t be able to make out the plate. License plates by law need to be reflective and that’s what happens when you shine a light at a reflective object. Now about your concern regarding auto theft-first, it’s a safe bet that on the car that the thieves are driving, the plates are stolen or fake. Even the dumbest criminal knows not to use a plate with any kind of identifier that could be traced back to them. So that won’t get you very far. What you really ought to be thinking of instead of a dash cam is how you can install either a security camera at your home somewhere that would catch the events in question. AND OR I would also recommend a camera like the Garmin Tandem which has an interior lens so instead of just getting a fake/stolen plate you could possibly get a close-up of a face. Hope this helps!
I’ve had the 47 and a mini one for a few years now. They’re awesome. In my opinion the best dash cams for the money. The 47 even has forward collision warning and notification of traffic moving in front of you from the stop light. There couple of things don’t like about them though. First, the collision warning is way too sensitive even on the lowest setting, so I had to mute the sound. Secondly, there’s no additional camera on the back of it to record the interior of the car or the back window, like the ones popular with Uber drivers. As for the $400 dash cam, I personally don’t think it’s worth the money. I don’t see the need for 4k quality of the footage. I will rarely review it anyway.
The garmin cameras are great, the major problem is you pay 400 for a 4K camera and then if you want to use live feed or connect the camera via WiFi you have to pay a fee every month! It should be possible to use the live feed or receive notifications in parking mode if we can connect the dash cam to a hotspot or WiFi network.
I somewhat agree… but it’s important to remember that a dash cam isn’t meant to function like a home security camera. And paying a fee to have live access isn’t unreasonable at all. Any device that has always-connected data is going to require a data plan and charge you a fee. That said, Ring makes a “dash cam” that I believe works exactly the way you want it to. It does require a data plan if you want to live view away from home, but I believe it works like any ring camera when you’re on your home WiFi network. Update: looks like they may have pulled it from the market… but here’s the detail page: ring.com/products/car-cam
was thinking of buying x110 for front and mini 3 for rear. but they're still too expensive to get 57 is nice to have but i prefer going for usb-c on everything
That’s a pretty costy price for a dash cam. But I’m afraid if I just buy one from an unknown company and download their software oh my phone, who knows where my personal info will get send to. Keep the great work sir
As someone who works in tech and has worked in cybersecurity, you’re absolutely right to be cautious there! The low cost of their cameras means the companies are making profit elsewhere, if you know what I mean.
Thanks for the review Josh! Does the new lineup of Garmin dash cams come with a magnetic mount? I’ve only seen that the new Garmin dash cams include an adhesive mount. Also, what are your thoughts on the X110 at its 199.99 price point? I’m seeing the 67W for $198.99 on Amazon so I wonder if it might be better to go with the 67W over the X110 with a $200 budget
I believe they do, though I’m not entirely sure. I used a suction cup mount for my testing of this one. That aside, I really like my 67W for the 180-degree field of view, and if you can get it for $198 that’s a really good deal.
They come with a small metal disk that adheres to the windshield. And then a plastic mount that attaches to the ball on the camera and has a magnet in it mates to the disk. So yes, 110, 210, and 310 come with magnetic way to disconnect most of the stuff and put it away only leaving the little metal disk on the windshield.
4K vs 1080p for reading of license plates (particularly at a distance, or a night when they often become over-illuminated) is there really no noticeable difference?
Not really. The only time you actually need to read license plates is when someone is right up on you anyway. I do like my 1440p 67W though, but mostly for the 180-degree field of view.
The problem is not the dashcam but the app. It's never been upgraded or improved since I got the dashcam. And trying to get a video onto your phone is hit or miss at best. Trying to show the footage to the police after a collision would be a trying experience at best. I even contacted Garmin to ask about it but never received a response. No customer service at all.
No your dash cam is a 1440p (2K) dash cam. 4K is 2160p. Also, I haven’t found any dash cam mobile app that works well since it requires a ton of data to be streamed over a proprietary network.
I had the dealer do it since it requires a partial disassembly of the ADAS housing and wiring (there’s a separate wiring harness you need to get and that all plugs into the same wiring that connects to the ADAS camera system up in the windshield and headliner).
Action cameras have a tendency to overheat especially if used for prolonged periods and or in direct sunlight, where this Garmin does not, so in that case it might be worth it!
Josh: So I'm using this dashcam Me: Right right right.... but what abt that gold Cartier👀😁, that bracelet blind me so I had to replay the video again. 5am? Dude go back to bed is to early nie.
Hahaha! I’ve been wearing it here and there but I guess it hasn’t been as noticeable. 😂 That was my gift to myself for our 10th anniversary earlier this year. And I know, I went in early but I had to otherwise it wouldn’t be dark out. 😅
Outstanding review I actually enjoyed the music at the end, well done Sir!
Thank you!
Good review, thanks for sharing, subscribed! 😎👍

Hi Joann-quality wise with off-brands, it isn’t about the clarity, it’s what those other cameras could be doing with your data-cybersecurity.
I have a Garmin Dashcam 55 and it has been trouble free for years.
Great video, thanks, regards from sweden
Another great video. 👍🏻 Hey, totally unrelated… I love your bracelet. It’s wicked nice. ⭐️
Thank you!! On both counts! ;)

Awesome!!! Yes same here!
Appreciate the video! I'm probably going to pick up an X210. I'm curious, have you ever tried out the collision warning, and if so, was it any good?

I recently bought a RA4 and on the lookout for a decent dashcam. Love your review and the ending👍. Cheers from Oz.
My tandem just went out today. I have a 45 dash cam spare. Might get the tandem again. Loved that it has dual lenses.

Haha! Welcome to Texas. Our speed limits are also way higher than in Utah which contributes to that.

Considering only the FHD resolution, is the image better in quality and sharpness with the 30FPS HDR setting or 60 (X210) / 120 FPS (X310)?

Thanks for the vid Josh. Is the power USB-C or Micro USB?
USB-C into the camera but USB-A to the car.
@@joshjamescars Can you use a cigarette lighter socket? I use my USB socket for playing music.
@davepaturno4290 Yes! You can also use the OBD2 adapter.

I assume the camera still saves 60 second clips consecutively to a micro SD card. Can you tell me how big each individual file is?
You can set it to between 15 second and 2 minute clips so it’s up to you how you want to manage it.

Any concern with the x210 60 fps VS x310 120 fps
120fps can only happen at 1080p resolution. You can’t do 4K at 120fps so it’s all a wash.
How about car videos? My guess is that the 310 would be preferred, although the Insta360 at 8K may be a better choice.
Action cameras have a tendency to overheat especially if used for prolonged periods and or in direct sunlight, where this Garmin does not, so in that case it might be worth it!

I hated the Garmin app. If your iPhone has the VPN enabled, it won't connect to the camera.
If the view is 180 instead 140 it would be better :( its high price why 140
Completely agree!! It’s a miss on the 310 for sure.
@@joshjamescars but im about to buy it , is 140 good enough to have a clear road view capture ?
That’s for you to decide. There’s a comparison clip in this video. You can still find the old Dash cam 67W if you’d rather have the 180 view.
Seems like the mini 3 is the Best Buy, you don’t really need 4K to capture an insurance scammer trying to set you up for insurance claims
The mini 3 doesn’t have a battery for parking guard, which for me is a must.
@ true I think the entry X model has plus it has GPS as well
@gannas138 Yes! That and the battery are the two things omitted from the mini to make it so smal.
