Melon baller™ is now my favorite reoccurring NPC. Sorry Ugly. There are just some things that you just can't write, and that doctor is one of those golden moments where everything lines up all at once.
The conversations between Eve and Uriel are fascinating to me. There's an interesting parallel between drones and bespoke in this setting - bespoke are tailorable down to their personalities and likes/dislikes, so they're effectively 'programmed' to act and think per their creators specifications - just like drones are. And both drones and bespoke have the potential to rebel and break their 'programming', achieving autonomy and self-determination. It strikes me from these conversations with Eve that Uriel is doing things he's not meant to be doing - either things he hasn't been programmed to do, or he's applying his programming to a context outside of it's original intent. At the very least he seems to be keeping his knowledge about Eve from his parents, which is something I imagine he was 'programmed' against. I wonder if this all contributes to why he's so interested in Eve. Side note: It's also interesting that Uriel was introduced at the dinner party alongside his sister. In the lore, couples are only allowed to have one bespoke child. Is this just that the Clements are so powerful they can get away with flouting that law, or is there something else going on there?
Theres a point at the bottom here I want to make sure I clarify, I've potentially somehow misspoke or sent the wrong impression. So the idea is there is a one child policy, but bespoke are specifically an exception to that rule, but must be infertile. So basically - You can have one biological child, and as many bespoke as you can afford (which is usually 0-1 due to them being extremely expensive)
@@narratordave7831 Ok, that makes sense! Pretty sure I got the one-bespoke per couple idea from the campaign setting document, but it's been ages since I read it so I've probably just misremembered. Thanks for the clarification!
47:26 for anyone wondering, I thing the reason Rob starts to giggle here is because Dumbo (the original) came out in 1941 and Jazz’s called Dumbo a “90’s Cartoon” 😂
i feel really sorry for Dave he tries so hard to lead them into saying what they want and be involved but our beloved crew just have no clue, they have no idea so freaking bad they don't even know they should ask for lists of options this isn"t just a once off but this episode really illustrates it the conversation with the cyber-doc could you imagine having that style of conversation in a pc shop client "i want some gear" rep "your in a computer shop so, like a computer?" client "yeah like, i want to enhance my capabilities" rep "for what purpose" (visible confusion) client "oh you know, i want to be able to be awesome when i need to" rep "are you high?" client "no i just want a range of function and it needs to be discrete" rep "get out or im calling the cops" i get they are not cyber-tech-genius's i don't expect them to roll in like "i'd like cyber-eyes, an in-built cyber deck and a concealed mono-filament wire." That's kinda the thing that has me confused. Love the roleplay, but I kinda get the feeling they are getting seriously lost in what they achieve. First it was the circle, then NuU, then back again, without it being linked all together. And the sticking point being shooting some pyscho's who murdered children? XD That being said; as someone who played with a group that had a 6 year campaign, so we've had our fair share of group shanigans. Like a scouting mission for the Rebel alliance ending up dropping a dirty neighpalm bomb into a quarry mined by wookies. Good. times. XD You just gotta accept that most story writers only have one author and the process just gets really complicated when folks are only in the mindset once a week.
When Dave started talking for the doctor, I instantly thought of David Nykl in that role. I loved the reaction to all of the scratches Zhang (Xiang?) has given Pro I like how in the recap you guys mentioned a bit the difference between thinking as the character and as the player. I know it breaks apart the illusion a little bit, but given how intense things are getting, sometimes that break is a nice reprieve. For as Ugly gets to me (my sister said if she'd been Pro in the last episode, she'd have jiu-jitsu the guy) I like how Dave uses him to get the other players/characters to drive the plot along. Like, when they're talking about what to do next, instead of Dave telling Jazza to make a decision that determines where the plot goes, he has Ugly tell Pro to be more specific about his goals. I think that works very nicely.
So I binged the whole series in 2 days and I'm so glad to be up to date, but this wait for Saturday killed me. Love you guys, keep up the awesome work.
Love the doctor character, so funny. But everyone's forgotten about poor Songbird who they accidentally set up to be a Katniss Everdeen like figure for the revolution.
Loved it! That was hilarious how Jen forgot pretty much everything from the important conversation with Incongruent. XD Love ya, Jen and love your Eve!
The fact that Rob brought up Porque no los dos? Made me grin ear to ear. My brother and I still use that in such similar situations. The more serious the better it feels.
The doctor is definitely my favorite character outside of Ugly. Ugly has my ❤️. But the doctor is definitely a close second. I guess I have a thing for a**holes. 🤷🏿♀️

Hello Tabletop Time. I have some concerns about the Cogent roleplay system. Well, just one concern. I hope Dave, Jazza, Jen and Rob (alphabetical order) read this and consider my thoughts and feelings on this matter. It's the destiny roll, the thing that determines too much of what happens in the roleplay session and in turn the campaign. Now, I don't dislike the destiny roll, I simply believe it's too liberally used. The players of Reboot.exe have come up with creative solutions they could achieve in the real world, but they were denied because of the destiny roll didn't allow it. Because they were unlucky, something that realistically wouldn't be a problem became a problem. Shad from Shadiversity, in his video titled "How realistic is Dungeons and Dragons combat?" had made this very same point, and yet the system he and his brother, Jazza, created contradicts this point. Shad's quote from the mentioned video. "If you think of something that is creative and it technically should be something that easily could be done in the real world and then you were denied because the rules simply does not allow it, that is profoundly dissatisfying." I agree with that argument, because it's valid and it's something that can genuinely disappoint me. I've seen some creative decisions and solutions from the players from both Curse of Silverthorn and Reboot.exe, but then with a roll of destiny, all that creativity and cleverness is tossed aside for needless good and bad luck. When this happens, it genuinely becomes very dissatisfying for me. It's a rule, a part of the game, that shouldn't be used so much. Thank you for reading. I have left similar comments on Shadiverstiy and Game Knights and since I also watch Tabletop Time, I felt it appropriate to also share my concerns here, too. I hope that everyone in Tabletop Time finds this comment and reads it, consider my thoughts and feelings on the matter and hopefully reply. Even if it's a simple "Noted.", I would still be very appreciative. I also hope that the people in the comment section respond and tell me their own thoughts of what has been written here. I'll be happy and open-minded to all those that respond.
Day two of my reboot catch-up! I'm headed to the next episode but I just wanted to say that I loved it as usual, all of it, but the thing that leaves me most impressed? Apart from the acting that's always on point... well, I just love how much of a manipulative fucker Ugly is. He's just masterful - and... Pro's taking lessons by example basically, yeah?
I think it is a shame that the Dr's name was changed; "My name is pronounced, Doctor Fuda Koollor." would have been cool. The surgeon is a wonderful new character; Dave is such a great DM.
Jazza you're wrong here about the recap and should respect the GM's preference. It's a tool for the GM to see how the players see the story and not get stuck in how he himself sees it, thus providing a better player experience.

its not a new concept to anyone on earth
it functions in any setting

for any character type
even tho the wording might change per store, every vendor has their list of services/products
its the same thing
also, Jazza, i love you man, but ... i don't even
you just passed on the option for a hidden weapon
when you have been busting ass to upgrade your defense and offense for the last month
but we are going to turn down a hidden gun or hidden blade ?
madness
you didn't even ask about special defenses like cloaking, internal armour, shields, bullet proof skin.. nothing? really?

ghost in the shell (any of them) is a great and quick cover all the bases movie
battle angel Alita , also a great start point
