John Farrow was such a skilled director that for an instant I thought there might be a plot point wherein commitment to aviation is costing some character his or her hearing, and this was an avant-garde way of showing that. Thanks for the explanation.
Got it. Thanks for the upload. What was the hymn?
How crazy is it that a hymn can be copyrighted 😮
At least no one can 'copyright' the One , they are singing about . 😊

Thank you for posting this. It was a good Sunday afternoon film, with a little history lesson woven in. All your "extras" in the below-screen notes were also excellent. Sincere appreciation for all your efforts.
@@dalanmanbros8311I really appreciate that! I'm working on remastering another film right now which will hopefully be uploaded later this week. I hope you enjoy that one just as much! Thank you so much for your kind words!
I have no words to thank you for posting it. You see I´m a big fan of Mr. Sterlng Hayden and of Mr. William Holden too. I´d been looking for this movie for a long, long time. I´ve just watched it and I´m SO glad. Many thanks!
One of the most under rated movies ever. One of my all time favorites since I was a boy. Great cast and story, fairly true to the book. I've been looking for a copy for years. Impossible to find. Thank you so much for posting this. I'll watch it often. This one I never get tired of.
A movie worth watching
I like the movie. Never heard of it before. Great cast.
The title is a phrase from the John Milton poem "Samson Agonistes" ("O dark, dark, dark, amid the blaze of noon")
Sonny Tufts, from a wealthy family, became a violent drunk and wrecked a promising career, dying young. William Holden began hitting the bottle in the '50s and also became a sloppy drunk, dying 'accidentally' at 63.
VERY sad ending, but I buried my boyfriend of 22 yrs 2.5 yrs ago n I REALLY know hiw Lucille felt!!! But an excellent movie altogether!!! Thanks for posting tonight!!!
I'm a musician and I've been playing and listening to all kinds of music including hymns. So ! Do we have to pay extra on all the films to hear the music ???? What a sick money hungry world.. I realize we all need too make our share but you buys work it out get together .. Thanks for listening.
Thanks for posting a good movie. Sure wish the sound was better. It was an issue for me the whole show through. Thanks also for trying to clean up the audio. I'm a big fan of all the main actors. I thought for sure the movie would have a happy ending, but disappointed at the ending. Ernest Gann wrote the story. I really liked all his stuff. I signed up after I watched your offering.
🥰😪😪 Thanks, and keep it up.
Good movie. Poor sound quality. I use the captions to follow along.
Great movie. Just pay attention to the sound. It dropped out off and on.
Sorry about that! The scene in the church around 22/23 minutes in had to be muted due to a copyright claim on the hymn they sing. There are also a few scenes where the dialog is hard to understand. I went through great lengths to make these scenes more understandable but I didn’t succeed as well as I’d wanted. It will take a serious restoration by someone with access to a print to really give this film the love and care it deserves! I hope that day comes. Thank you so much for watching and for your comment!
The sound in general was choppy and staticky for the entire film. Thank you for trying to fix it.
@@NocturneTheatre You´ve done a great job!
All of that BLONDE HAIR❤❤
I don’t know what ever happened to Sunny toughs. I seen him in a couple of movies and he just seem to disappear.
