It's because of UA-cam. They're demonitising videos that have swearing in them because apparently it's still 1950 in America.

The original French show was called Des Chiffres et Des Lettres. Countdown is the simple title for this show that is about, you know, letters & numbers.
The Australian show Countdown counted down the top-ten songs of the week. Another well-named show in Australia. Hooray.

If you want to reach a bigger audience (only real reason i can come up with?) then please dont forget about the 75% of adult viewers enjoying your content _because_ it's such unfiltered humor, so ideally you should also have alternate uncensored versions with an age rating, that way everybody wins 👍

By the way, i swear like a sailor and my enjoyment of these clips isn't curtailed by the lack of hearing swears. I have the intellectual capacity to see that watching a comedy clip on youtube is not the time for my brain to ouck a political and ideological fight with "those who would threaten free speech." Grow up, buddy.

It was the original 60s French programs name - but in French.
Um Letters and Numbers, hilarious except that's what the original show was called - Des chiffres et des lettres - it's been running since the 1960s on French TV, from whom we copied the format in 1982 when Channel 4 began - so not really worth taking the piss out of - the Australians were just giving it its proper name.
I used to watch that every day with Pyramide! Des Chiffres et des Lettres is the OG!

I don't know if i'd say greed. It's playing by the rules of the marketplace. Every market has its rules and if you want to make money there, you jump through the hoops like a good little doggy. Following rules isn't selling out or being greedy. We all have seen the unedited clips. This doesn't impact my enjoyment of seeing the clip again, sans swears.
People need to lighten up with the political nonsense. Time and place, weirdoes. This isn't the time or the place.
You can swear in a video without getting demonetized, there are thousands of people doing just that on the platform.
@@MooseCastle afaik, profanity in the first minute and high concentrations of swearing are the big no-nos. at some point yt even counted bleeping words as profanity, which is why i think c4 censored the eclair clip like they did. i should note that this info is largely anecdotal, over a year old, and collected from channels casually mentioning the subject, so it may very well be outdated or incomplete.
@@MooseCastle and the vast majority of those channels either do it in a very calculated way, or don't rely on UA-cam money for their primary source of income.

The Australian "Letters and Numbers" is a reference to the original version of Countdown from France - "Des chiffres et des lettres" which literally translates to numbers and letters. Australians are not that simple
