  • The Cannondale Synapse has long been a favourite for mile-munching roadies with its comfort-oriented ride. The new version of the bike takes integration to a new level for road bikes, with a single battery running both lights and a Garmin Varia Radar system. Liam's been lucky enough to get a sneak peak at the new Cannondale Synapse, and in this video he'll talk you through the tech and give some first impressions about how the ride compares to the outgoing bike.

Has anyone figured out if you can remove the front and rear lights easily? They say the synapse is not only in endurance bike but can also be used for some racing if you choose. Will USCF allow you to be in a race with front and rear lights? I also want to get the weight down as low as possible if I do choose to jump in a race every once in a while. Thanks

Getting rid of the BB 30 is the best thing they ever did,way overdue! the seat post also makes sense, the rest is just bling!

I don’t get it. One huge battery to replace the fact that you charge two small lights. My light are rechargeable and clip on easily.

I guess the box also act as a brain that can talk with smartphone and garmin to control the lights, It's like having a very considerate and smart pet riding with us take care of lightjob.
To me that's quite techy especially when the rear light can act as a big block of metal getting closer when connected to garmin stuff.. cool but not for me, im afraid the light will go crazy as i rode in crowded area.
      Normal lights for me too.
Oh.. I can't even afford the cheapest Cannonballe bike atm, pardon.

No BB30? I thought this was one of Cannondales proudest elements?!?
Absolutely love the innovations otherwise, I don’t ride bikes without spares/lights, so great to see logical implementations.

Bike industry needs to start doing more focus groups with mechanics. Good call on the BB and seatpost, but literally anyone could have pointed those out. The rest is pure trash that people will likely pay mechanic's to take off their bike with the dork disc.

whole reason why they didnt feature di2 is because they didn't get shimano on board to have it charge di2 also. the most thing that this would makes sense is the millions of times where my ride mate didnt charge di2 and it stopped woking mid riding.

My di2 lasts weeks if not months at a time, if you're constantly forgetting to charge it then it's not the systems fault

  • @endianAphones

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Why? What's wrong with a regular tiny light? Why that humongous battery? Why does it have an oldschool colar on the seatpost? At least they could have made a bottom tube storage thing and integrate the battery there, if you didn't want the battery then you could use it as storage. The only good thing about it is the bottom bracket, and maybe the reflective paint. Just maybe.

A bike with a built in propriety battery pack (that works with only certain lights), no thank you. You can buy lights with similar features and use them on any bike. It makes no sense to me and it would likely count as a negative in my decision making process.

As an existing Synapse owner that stupid light system just angers me. It says to me that Cannondale just think they know better what's best for me and they are going to force me pay for it even though I have my own set of lights that are superior in every way. Cannondale just lost another customer.

You could buy the base Tiagra model which doesnt have the radar or lights, then upgrade the groupset and the wheelset - most of us do that anyway. I would. Or just wait for the frameset. The important thing is they finally ditched the bb30 - that’s enough cause for celebration!

@@hansendy3708 That is a laughable response. Oh, you don't like the radar/lights? Buy Tiagra instead of Ultegra or buy a frameset and build it with parts that are unavailable.
