- In this video you can see a POV comparison between the 2018 VW Golf R with Akrapovic exhaust versus the 2018 VW Golf GTI.
The VW Golf R has a 4 cylinder 1.984cc TSI BMT petrol engine that delivers 310hp and 400 Nm of max. torque. The VW Golf R goes from 0-100 km/h in 4,6 sec and has a top speed of 250 km/h. The VW Golf R has 4MOTION four-wheel drive and it has a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission.
The Golf GTI has a 4 cylinder 1.984 cc TSi turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 230hp and 350 Nm of torque. It goes from 0-100 km/h in 6,5 sec and has a top speed of 246 km/h. The VW Golf GTI is frontwheel drive and it has a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Great vídeo... I ordered the GTI in Red Tornado, 19” alloys.. R is more powerfull and has 4motion but heavier and with a smaller trunk.....I prefer the look of the GTI with his red details internal and external, and its much cheaper than the R.....GTI power is more than enought for me as daily driver....Small correction the GTI 230 Manual has 250km/h top speed 246km/h Its with the DSG transmission..
Mk7 r is very better all time.
The GTI is easier to take off in and drive. My r is a beast but the delay kills me sometimes

what delays are you referring to. Both cars have the similar motor with added power in the R. Dont see why there should be any delay
@ pff a chip in a gti and it has the same power, put in some high pressure fuel injectors and you can have 450

Great video, thank you. I have an R and I absolutely love it. My parents both have a GTI each and although my R is faster, has better traction, sounds better...the GTIs put a bigger smile on my face, they’re more fun, agile and how a hot hatch should be. I’d still choose the R over the GTI though

i’m no GTI fan boy as i’m actually considering both cars. but it’s not exactly a direct comparison. the GTI isn’t the performance model (no red badges) and the GTI is manual not DSG.

To be honest akrapovic optional exhaust isn’t that good, remus with miltek downpipe is much better, and its even cheaper.
I think the golf looks a little better than the golf, but the golf would work a little better than the golf. I'll just go with the golf I think.... hahaha I have a gti payments where too much for the r but don't feel like I am missing out horribly. Very fun to drive does everything I want it too.

Hi. Just want ask about the sound of golf r. Is that original? Cause I just got an R rather a GTI after I saw this video. But I found that the sound of my one is much different than the video shows to me.
The Golf R in the video has the optional Akrapovic exhaust system. Did you get it also? Other than that it's original.

1. Gold R had dsg, road was dry during acceleration test

Consider it a comparison of a DSG golf R on dry roads vs manual GTI on wet road and get over it. It’s not like he’s racing them against each other.

@@KaeptnMS it is the akrapovic cos they are circluar the stock golf r exhausts are oval , I own a mk 7.5 r with stock exhausts . The ones in this video are not the same as mine these ones are round .. the akrapovic exhausts ..

Had both and no. Love the R but not worth the extra 10k. Gti is more fun and nimble, R has more power but also weighs more so it evens out in a negative way. R your really just paying for the cleaner sound, all wheel drive, and the badge.
fnbeansover the golf r is allot more tunable and does 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds stock which beats a Lexus is 350 fsport which costs way more
