Every time I listen to this, every time I KNOW what's coming after the guitar solo part, the way Eva just explodes into my soul…
every time I know what's coming, and every-single-time, I make a new dictionary definition of chills.

Eva Cassidy unfortunately died tragically at the age of 33 from cancer in 1996. This concert you are viewing occurred six or seven months before her death. She was well known in her local area but only received worldwide Acclaim and legendary status after her death. She leaves dozens of stellar recordings with her Crystal clear vocals and masterful guitar playing, and of course her blues and soul influences.

Eva Marie Cassidy is an American singer, born February 2, 1963 in Washington and died November 2, 1996 in Bowie, Maryland.... for info: big emotion for me who had known her to see young people again today watching her songs because she also had a sublime voice and was also a great stars .

Played at our wedding, hubby introduced me.
I had heard of her, living so close to Bowie, Maryland.
Eva was terminally shy. She sang in Blues Alley because it was small and filled with friends.
She was just being discovered when cancer struck. The brain trusts at the Record Labels were entranced but couldn’t quite fit her anywhere and Eva had no interest in changing style. (Why would she. It was perfect).
Listen to It’s a Wonderful World, the last song she sang at her last benefit concert.
Her albums were created posthumously by her loving friends so people could continue to fall in love.
A brilliant songbird taken too early.

Her performance Of " Autumn Leaves " performed on the same night at Blues Alley in DC is the GREATEST LIVE performance of any song by anybody I've ever heard . Almost all the songs you hear her sing are live without the modern technology to filter out flaws . If you want to hear another side of her check out a couple of duets that she does with Chuck Brown "Drown In my Own Tears " and "You Don't Know Me " . I could listen to Eva for hours on end and not tire of her Beautiful Voice .

This is from the only album she recorded with her band over two nights at Blues Alley. Like AJ, she sang mainly covers that she made her own singing jazz, blues, folk, country, rock, and pop music. Though they thought she was great, she would not sign with any record company because they wanted to record only one style. She was truly a transitional singer and if she lived she would have been a star. 10 million of her albums sold after she passed away. Other amazing songs include Fields of Gold, Autumn Leaves, At Last, and many more. She was also a very good guitarist. I almost forgot. Over the Rainbow is one of the best renditions I've ever heard.

This woman was a goddess with the voice of an angel. She was taken far, far too soon. She ranks # 5 on Amazon's list of their 25 best selling artists. Her albums have sold over 10 million copies. Sadly this all happened after her death. When she died she was basically only known in her hometown of Washington D.C. The world had not yet been made aware of her phenomenal talent. This is my favorite song 😪😪😪😪, Eva did a beautiful job and I’m really picky about this song. Thank you for this reaction, she has a beautiful voice.

The music genre she has arranged and sang this song is Jazz. That’s Jazz phrasing she is using. Yes, Blues and Soul Music are its cousins.

Eva's audience was silent while she sang. She sang on a very personal level - it was as if her song was sung just for you. She reached inside herself and poured her heart out while she sang and played.
While it is a horrible tragedy she left us so soon, her music has left an indelible mark on her following. No other person occupies the space where Eva sang. It is hers, alone.
Be sure to react to her rendition of "Autumn Leaves."

It's uncanny, but it's like she's singing for posterity. One of the seminal performances of the last century...

Eva was a master of vocals and guitar. It so sad that she’s no longer with us. A life cut wait too short by cancer. Story has it that she found out that her cancer was terminal the day that this was recorded.

No, she sang this in January of 1996. She was diagnosed with melanoma that June and she passed away in November of 1996.

This superb version of Over the Rainbow is so much more poignant when you know the world lost this beautiful soul not too long after this video was recorded. As well as having a wonderful voice, Eva was a very accomplished fingerpicking guitar player. I could definately recommend 'Songbird'
