Congrats. Hard to believe it was six years ago our son made that journey. Because it was so far, he flew up for R day and then we went up for A day. At the time it seemed like Firstie year was so far away. Then suddenly it seemed like a couple of blinks and we were at his ring ceremony and then graduation. From one side it looked so long and the other so short.
Congrats! However, I don't understand why all of these incoming cadets are are bringing massive amounts of stuff with them that they aren't going to be able to keep. It's all going to be put into storage that has to be paid for / shipped back home. What's the point in even taking it? All cadets get their issued uniforms during processing. All a person should basically bring is just the clothes they're currently wearing, an I.D. card, and their medical forms packet (aside from needed medical items such as i.e. dental retainers and prescription glasses etc.).
I think for like each class they get more privileges, so they can maybe have the stuff that they're bring in, in the future when they're allowed to have those items
@@Sahasra.22That’s years away though. Plebes (as shown here) don’t get any privileges. If you watch videos of freshman year / 4th year cadets, their dorms are pretty bare and to strict regulations. This is well known which is why I’m confused every new R-Day each year I continually see newbies in videos such as this bring tons of stuff I wonder why. It looks to be bunches of civilian clothing like they are set to go away to summer camp. They can’t wear any of that their entire duration while actually on academy grounds, making it pointless as it unnecessarily takes up space. There’s videos of cadets talking about USMA lockers. Entrance into any military installation (academies, OCS, enlistment bootcamp, etc) it’s all uniformly operated in which every person is given a list of what to bring and not to bring their first day. Did these people not read it? It seemed like practically all except one person brought either a large backpack or duffle bag. There’s tons of videos from former cadets over the years that give advice to those wanting to enroll and a common theme is this - to not bring stuff from home. In between semesters, students travel home, and at the end of the year, all of their stuff is removed from the dorms as they shift rooms. There’s no reason to bring anything not issued by the school, especially during the summer plebe initiation/ training phase before the school year starts.
Congrats!! I was there too dropped our son for R day. Hope u had a good call yesterday.
