    The barrel in the pack is a great idea. The burgers sound great. Still making me hungry despite having BBQ ribs and chicken just a bit ago at a clays fundraiser. Thanks for getting the word out on the very shortsighted proposed legislation.

    I don't even hunt pigeons but this was informative and interesting.
    I see them at a field near me and had no idea how they 'decide' whether to land or not.
    Thanks for the upload.

    Hi Jason, steel shot has been used here in Australia over wetlands for a number of years. Technically not steel, rather it is soft iron which more easily rusts and breaks down quicker than steel. Bismuth was also a material that was talked about some years back but I'm not aware of it being used for shot manufacture. I believe it's expensive and perhaps not cost effective to make shot from commercially. The lead ban only applied to wetlands and it is still used for shooting over dry land including clay shooting.

      Paul Ayres we do use bismuth here as a lead alternative and it is excellent but as you say not really cost effective. My personal experience with steel has been pretty positive once range is kept sensible but there is no doubt that lead is the most humane option.

    Tanks Jason, great video, we can all still pick up ideas. The barrel in the bag is a fantastic idea. I have one of this bags. Have you any idea of the size of the barrel? It looks perfect in height, but they seem to be sold in litres. Thanks again.

    Great show again Jason. The steel shot requirement for migratory birds here in Canada has led to numerous birds being wounded and flying off to die elsewhere. This is a gross waste of a valuable resource hopefully you folks in Ireland can convince the powers that be that it is not a good practice and is a waste of good valuable birds and cruel to have them suffer a lingering death. Some of the problems can be traced to hunters trying to take birds beyond the effective range of the steel and having to use only modified chokes that have larger looser patterns.

    Great decoy tutorial jd..intresting about the lead ban..is that just for wildfowl or all shotgun disciplines?

    • @jasondoyle6061
      @jasondoyle6061 5 років тому +1

      The Somerset Hunters the only for wildfowl version of the ban is what you guys implemented but what’s being pushed now is a full ban of lead over wetlands, regardless of the species being shot.

    Looks like standing barley. How did you pick shot birds including wounded ones without damaging the crop?

    • @jasondoyle6061
      @jasondoyle6061 5 років тому

      Michael Maxwell there were huge lodged patches where a lot of the birds were falling that were easy to pick. That particular farmer was happy for my dog to hunt in the standing stuff too. My lab is pretty steady and doesn’t do a whole lot of damage to the crop.
