This is a cool project, and quite timely, too. I browsed one of the local lots two days ago and came across a 2008 Trailblazer SS AWD for six grand! It had the 6-liter LS2 {395 bhp / 400 lb-ft} and 89k miles on the clock, along with a clean Carfax. This is the truck Road & Track quarter mile tested against a C6 'Vette sporting the same engine. The 'Vette got blown away, thanks to the AWD on the Trailblazer, which ran a 12.95 - the traction-limited 'Vette's best was a 13.68, IIRC. One of my co-workers has a 2007 Silverado SS AWD; after he put Corvette induction, a 'Vette chip in the ECU, and a pair of Hooker long-tube headers and a 3-inch exhaust on it, it was cranking out 475 horses - a cam and head swap like yours would have bumped things closer to 600!! Once your ride is dialed in, it'd be a real hoot if you could arrange a friendly bracket race with Mr. Dulcich, who also has a hot C5. Just sayin'............ KUTGW!!!😎
I know there's not a whole lot of track/ off public road racing options in the north east but it would bring the channel up a few notches if you did more driving shenanigans with the builds
I made 470 to the wheels in my 4th gen with a Thunder Racing T-REX cam and a TPiS 92mn ls6 intake (that's it) through a t56 and 12 bolt. everyone loves the iron truck motors (i get it) but there is real magic in the true aluminum ls1s. legend has it they used actual pieces of frosty the snow man's pipe in the pencil that drafted the design.
I had a 95 camaro with an LT 1 cold air intake ported n polished heads high flow cat with a magnaflow exhaust a hypertech fuel management system 165 degree temp sensor to keep it cooler , a larger mass airflow sensor and 411 gears. It was a dark purple convertible with leather seats and power everything. I even had a nice soundsystem from kicker with all stock replacement size speakers 2 Tweeters in the front 2 in the rear and a 12 inch Sub and a 4 channel amp. Top it all off with a 6 speed tranny and a Hurst short throw shifter and some c5 corvette 5 star 17in rims. The car was not the fastest but it hooked n booked. I bought a spotless C5 Z06 CE (1979/2025) with 40,000 miles on it. Paid a lot too. I always kick myself as I should have bought a sub-$10k C5 and built it the way I wanted to. But, I have it on coilovers, and upgraded brakes and full Sparcos with harnesses for the track. And I tell ya, the damn thing is absolutely unbelievable! Absolutely hands down the best performance bargain out there, still! Yes C6's are coming up as the best for the $$$ but I'll take/keep my C5 Z06. Great build!
It was a hot summer down here in Australia too. On the worst days metal objects felt hot to the touch, air temperatures 37 Celsius (100F) or more in the shade, humidity 70% or higher. My shop is partially open air, so no chance of air conditioning. I was literally dripping with sweat. What saved me was one of those huge industrial pedestal fans. Put it right next to where I was working so I was being absolutely blasted with wind. The air was actually hotter than body temperature, so all the cooling comes from your sweat evaporating. Got to drink, a LOT. But I could keep working.
I just built my LS1 as my first ever build. Got the Texas speed Head and cam package, PRC 225 as cast heads and a Torquer V2 cam paired with a Yank 3600ss converter. getting it tuned tomorrow and am so excited.
It's currently just street tuned. Texas speed said the combo was good for 430ish to the wheels. The Cam sounds so good thru my true 3in duals. Found out my trans is slipping around 6,500rpms just before it shifts.
Unless your bigger cubes such as a stroker your wasting power trying to move enough air to flow what those heads are capable of if it's a 4.8 5.3 5.7 and even a 6.0 to a point you can make good power with a smaller off the shelf head in my opinion your leaving a lot of power on the table with that combination like I said not dogging just trying to help the fellow gearhead
I love this build brother!!!! I am using a Amazon garden sprayer to lube my Ls3 as well!!! A barbed fitting a piece of hose and 2 clamps. $25 and I can prime my engine!!!!! Hell no I ain't paying $200 for a oil primer setup!!! And I don't have a air compressor lol.
I’ve been a fan for years buddy. I couldn’t help but lmao when you went for pizza. Wouldn’t be a family wholesome video without pizza edited in there somewhere. You need to brand your own pizza. Call it “We’re gonna lose the shop.”
That's some seriously impressive numbers for a 25 year old LS1 with budget heads and cam. Some say the LS is THE BEST engine for a carb because of the ignition.
For priming LS engines I got a portable air tank from HF and adaptor to the oil port near the front of the engine to 4an. I pour 6 quarts in the tank and fill it with 80 psi. Flip the tank over and turn it on. Have to usually refill the tank air but I fill a new engine this way.
Back in 2004 I was CRAZY about the new GTO, and my buddy worked at a Pontiac dealership and he told me to come test drive one. The 2004 GTO had the LS1 (the 350 HP engine) and the 2005 had the LS2 (400 HP). I will tell you that while it was OK, not CRAZY fast, but it handled the winding roads like you wouldn't believe. I was taking turns rated at 35 MPH at 115 MPH. I scared the hell out of my buddy, but that car was so planted in stock form and it didn't take alot of work to drive it. The one that I drove was a six speed manual and even the clutch felt nice, engaged easily, and wasn't overly heavy, but it only had about 80 miles on it. I tried to sling it around a u-turn and I heard someone yell, I said, "what'd he say?" My buddy said, "bro that's my boss! He's the GM!" He followed us back to the dealership and he screamed at my buddy and said, "I can't believe you would let him do that!" I jumped in and said that I didn't mean to do that, I hit the throttle and it kicked the rear end out and he told me to take the car back immediately. We got back and I acted like I was trying to purchase the car, but I was only like 21 or 22 back then and I had a fully modified 1996 GMC Jimmy SLE Santa Fe edition that was lowered on 22" Lexani rims with 10 TVs, 12-10" subwoofers, was painted with PPG Platinum Pearl White with a full body kit that had won best of show at NOPI Nationals, but it still had a basically stock 4.3 Vortec. I had always wanted a domestic muscle car though...
The '04 GTO was actually an Australian car, the Holden Monaro. GM re-badged it as a Pontiac for sale in the US. That's why it handled so well, in Australia we like a V8 but have historically preferred a slightly smaller and more handling oriented car than what was sold in the US. The GTO wasn't a big hit with US customers though. They also imported the 4-door version (Holden Commadore) as the Pontiac G8. Not a big hit either, sadly.
All these o-ring style gaskets dryout and crack. My Chevy Malibu is getting a bunch of them changed because it went from no leaks to gushing. These gaskets are the norm these days but I keep cars along time and run into trouble because of it.
With trick flow heads and cams, comp valve springs, port matched BBK aluminum intake manifold, motion 84mm tbody, 1200cc injectors, walbro 450, 2 inch, 4:2:1 port matched long tube headers i built myself, haltech elite 1500 on e85, off road 3 and 1/2 inch x pipe with the merge 37 inches aft of the collectors to dual magnaflow mufflers. With a 7700ft DA, as well as 112,304 miles on the bone stock bottom end, she made 516whp @7700rpm and 460lbft. Thats all from a 2 valve 4.6 liter Ford SOHC v8 from 1998. It sits in my '98 mustang GT street/drift car its actually the #'s matching engine. A clutch masters twin backs in up, BBK lightweight flywheel, tremec TKX swap, 3.93 FDR with a Yukon spool. Let me just tell you, that little 4.6 fux SOOOOO hard it would absolutely and completely blow your mind. I did an s550 IRS conversion, LOTS of weight reduction, complete drift American front end from the cross member to the knuckles, fortune coilovers, swapped the front brakes to the rear, used the stock rear calipers for foot brakes and the stock front calipers for the handbrake, 2013 gt500 front brakes. All said and done the car does 69°...giggity.... of steering angle, weighs 2820 with me in it (im 6'5 240lbs) still has A/C and a halfway decent stereo. I gotta say man i was a die hard and i mean DIE HARD GM guy. My grandpa, who used to build engines for the likes of Big Daddy Don Garlits, Rusty Wallace, Richard Petty, and none other than Dennis Anderson, talked me into buying an sn95 to replace my 3rd LS swapped e36 that folded the unibody under the rear subframe and had more stress fractures than i have shin splints. Any e36 owners who send it will know what im talking about. Dude i have fallen in love with this little black mustang to a level that not only is the lovely lady in my life jealous of it, my female PITBULLS are as well. I dont know what it is, i cant explain it. But ive NEVER loved a car like i love this mustang. Not even close. The car turned me into a Ford man. I traded my piece of shit '19 Silverado in for a GORGEOUS 2020 ecoboost f150...yes its the 3.5 with max tow she tows 12,300 lbs as a half ton. That ford makes that chevy honestly look pathetic its kinda sad. In no way am i referring to anything regarding form. Im talking function. Anyway, i dont aim to take up too much of anyone's time i just wanted to put this totally underrated engine on a pedestal. BTW, when the car was bone, bone stock....i deleted the 6 CATALYTIC CONVERTERS with a simple manifold back summit DIY exhaust system, threw on some $200 shorty headers, a truck intake manifold, and a tune, the thing made 330 wheel @ 6,800 rpm with a 7200 DA we had good air that day. I live on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe so i get to do remote tunes driving around what i think is the most beautiful lake in the U.S. Which is fuggin cool, jack. Y'all stay safe and remember....dont drive fast, fly low.

KUTGW!!!😎
C5 was a dream car of mine as a kid. I plan on buying one as a project in the next couple years. Love to see you doing one.
I know there's not a whole lot of track/ off public road racing options in the north east but it would bring the channel up a few notches if you did more driving shenanigans with the builds
This sucker is gonna see the track soon and I totally agree!

Love the budget engine combos. Real world info we can all use on our projects. Thank you for the down and dirty truth
We appreciate you like crazy for the Saturday night uploads. Thanks,
THATS CRAZY POWER FROM BUDGET HEADS AND A MILD - MID RANGE CAM. SHORTY HEADERS TOO, NO LONG TUBES, YOU'RE DEFINITELY OVER 500 JUST WITH LONG TUBES
This episode reminds me of that car I love my chevys especially corvettes n camaros. Love the channel keep up the builds.

How much to build an engine like this one for sale
Or a 5.7L Vortec with the same modification?
Holy Bananas! I'm A Ford guy who bleeds Old Ford Dark Blue, but that's impressive. Loved the video, loved bringing along the the next generation, a big dude with a Hurst tat can't be all bad, and I'll pick up one of those shirts. Happy Fourth to You and Yours, and to all that have secured our freedoms for 248 years. Semper Fi.
Man it would take everything in me to have an engine that stripped down and NOT do besrings and rings lol. Awesome video guys. Great content as always!
Love it! I never new just turning the crank center's the oil pump. I have had good luck pouring oil in the pump, while the block is upside down and turning the crank. Learn stuff every "Friday"! Buy the way I did end up getting the Town Car. Boost is needed for sure!!!! Keep up the great work guys!
HellYeah Boys!! After hearing that motor on the dyno this morning, I’m all in on this project. Beer and a Slice Time! Ready to Stay Tuned 🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥

I appreciate the video. About to pull the trigger on an ls swap on an s-10 someone gave me. It's been about 18 years since I turn some serious wrenches. This and all your videos really break it down for a guy like me.
"No suction is a definite deal breaker." -TA words of wisdom
I bought a spotless C5 Z06 CE (1979/2025) with 40,000 miles on it. Paid a lot too. I always kick myself as I should have bought a sub-$10k C5 and built it the way I wanted to. But, I have it on coilovers, and upgraded brakes and full Sparcos with harnesses for the track. And I tell ya, the damn thing is absolutely unbelievable!
Absolutely hands down the best performance bargain out there, still! Yes C6's are coming up as the best for the $$$ but I'll take/keep my C5 Z06. Great build!
according to the google-box the head gasket is a Cometic MLS LS1/LS2/LS3/LS6 .051" MLS Cylinder Head Gasket
Thanks!!
The one that was in that motor originally looks like a garbage composite gasket!!! Wah wah wah😞😞😞
How much did u end up making? I have a WS6 debating if I should build my ls1 or buy a forged iron 6.0
46:31 foreshadowing….can’t lie to us😂😂
Horsepower and comedic levels are at 500! Awesome episode :)
Awesome build! Any idea when we may see the Aston Mustang again??
We have a clutch setup being made and just waiting to hear back on and ECU!
Hell yeah, can’t wait!
I was about to ask that too! I’m like did they forget about it?
Glad to hear it - I was worried it had them stumped!
Hour long Friday video? Corvette build? Built LS? Hell yeah. Merica 🎉
Thanks for the upload, guys. I appreciate it.
Glad to find your channel and see another Pennsylvanian. I like the style of just being able to follow along a build for an hour.

I love the way you show us “you way”. Been a fan fur a long time and you always remind me. Great episode
Nassau blue is the best color for the c5! Sweet car
Black is always the best looking when clean
Not a big hit either, sadly.
that was fun to watch. Were I a few decades younger I'd try that.. thanks guys! (the roll out of the truck bed was pretty funny)
These and the original stingray are my favorite body styles
I like C2 and C5 the best probably. Not a bad one in the bunch though!
Don't forget to clean the filter in the parts room AC so it works at peak efficiency! Love your show!
Man that poor garden sprayer has been publically violated !!!
Top of the UA-cam game right now brother! Ride the wave keep it up brother
Just sold my C5 for a Z06. My C5 have 16,000 miles 6 speed for a 6,000 mile 2016 Z06. Love the Z06 so much better
Yeah, I have never driven a Z06 but I assumed it's much more my style.
@@StayTunedTA I actually like the C5 & C7 better than the C8
this was an awsome episode, loved the build and results, relates to all the garage builders out there !!!
The o-ring style gaskets work perfectly until they don't and then it's gushing oil.
I've had great success with LS based stuff!
All these o-ring style gaskets dryout and crack. My Chevy Malibu is getting a bunch of them changed because it went from no leaks to gushing. These gaskets are the norm these days but I keep cars along time and run into trouble because of it.
It's my birthday and another Friday upload, what could be better! Can't wait to watch guys 😁😁😁 thanks for the education!
The secret to the Cathedral port is went the valve closes the air dose not just stop it starts to rotate
What a great combo… I was going to be impressed with the 425 you were hoping for. Nice job!

I know right?! This thing blew me away!
Love the details on the LS build.... Great job Tony & Barb!
Thermoquad! The best carburetor ever!! I wish Freiburger would make that shirt again.
As a fellow Pennsylvanian, I can attest it was in fact hot and humid as balls mid June. Even now.
Awesome to see an American working on an ls1 instead of a 5.3 or a 6.0, the ls1 is the cheapest LS in Australia and cool to finally see a build on one that isnt 5 - 10 years old.
