I see a lot of people complaining about it being shorter in the back. this is because she is actually teaching how to cut an a line bob (which she failed to mention). a lines are short in back and long in front. also I'm a stylist. If you don't have hair on the finer/thinner side this is going to look horrible. all other hair types require layers and texturizing. I have had SO many people come to me needing their hair fixed bc they watched videos like this and didn't have an appropriate hair type. hope this helps prevent more people from screwing up their hair.
My mom did mine and it worked so well! Although there are a couple of things to keep in mind. It comes out shorter than you might have expected it to be. It will be shorter in the back and longer in the front. The ends will be uneven, but it's easily fixable by snipping diagonally until it's even. Make sure you have super sharp scissors (if you don't have hair scissors then use sewing scissors) and when cutting the ponytail make it as even as possible. I recommend both a pair of big and small sharp scissors. The big ones for the ponytail and the small ones for the trimming. Don't forget at the end to take out the bluntness by running the blade of the scissors at the ends of the hair. My hair looks like a professionally done messy lob and I will probably use this technique a lot in the future!
Done this today! Perfect instructions and I love the result. When you really loosen the sections above your ears, it turns out super professional and unique!
I was very hesitant and scared to try this but my hair was fried so I grew some, got organized and decided to give it a go.. Worse come to worse I would get a pixie cut tomorrow... I have never walked out of a salon and been this happy. Every time I go to the salon its always uneven. Not with this tutorial. My hair looks awesome! If you have the patience and and are hand and eye coordinated go ahead and give it a try.
Yay! I did it! The tips listed below are correct, the first band needs to go low but then push it right next to your skin downward. The next band same thing. My hair is so thick felt like cutting a makeup brush - resorted to my hubbys trimmers to get the hair stump level, voila! Did it long way first to make sure, then shorter.
some tips: - part your hair perfectly in the middle and in a perfectly straight line! - make your ponytail as smooth and tight as possible - put the elastic all the way down the end of your hairline, very important!!! - make sure your elastics are as tight as possible to avoid hair moving - slide the elastic downwards, in the direction your hair would naturally fall - make the cutting line really as straight as possible!! If needed ask someone for help - when it's your first time trying this, never go for the length you want right away, you can go shorter but never longer! - if you're going for a shorter bob, you might have some neck hair peaking out at the back that was too short to get into the ponytail. Ask someone to cut these or do it yourself if you can
Just tried this, IT WORKS WONDERS! FYI: I have straight, black, Asian hair - the kind that can hold a curl really well, not the kind that just falls flat. I recommend doing this if you have a bob already and want to maintain your desired length. I had no one to help me with the last step so I just used some thinning scissors to make the lines less harsh. 100% recommend.
Thank you so much for your brilliant instructional video. I have been asking my hairstylist to do this for years and she/no one ever does it right. I did this this morning and it took me less than 5 minutes and it was exactly what I wanted, you saved me $75 and I'm very happy with it. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!
You get what you pay for. When I go to my hairdresser and I say cut 1 inch off, that is exactly what she does. Unlike others who go in for a trim and get 4 inches cut off. I think it's worth it, plus I see her once every 3-4 months.
+Laura Gutierrez My hairstylist, who has been doing my hair my entire life, costs only 10$ per haircut and does a perfect job every time... So no, you don't get what you pay for. You find someone who does it right, and continuously go to them, bonuses if it is cheaper. Unless you enjoy the atmosphere of a 75$ haircut. I'm currently attending cosmetology school, and so far they only seem to tell us to ask for 10-25$ per haircut once we are out in the salon world. So... you are paying 75$ for a trim? You're crazy.
In case you’re looking for an answer as to where to part your hair before tying the ponytail, go for middle parting. Not a side one because a middle parting will keep your hair length even from both sides. =)
Love this tutorial! thanks so much, I'm going to try it on my curly hair, but will feather the ends a lot more as my hair type doesn't suit blunt ends. wish me luck!
GURL! Just did it and THE RESULT IS STUNNIIINGG! I didnt even need to retouch anything. Like anything. I just cut right below the tie in a straight line and when i released it it was done. Bam. Just like that. I love it. Thank you soo much ❤️❤️🥰
SQUEE!! & OMG!! Thank you SO much for posting this amazing DIY video. I just gave myself the BEST haircut I've ever had. Getting the top and bottom ponytails even and smooth took a few attempts, but the result is absolutely adorable. FYI my hair is ultra-fine, slightly wavy, and freakishly smooth, and I use a curling iron to give my hair body and shine. Cheers!
I was nervous to get a long bob cut last year and OMG I loved it so much. I recommend this♥ Start with a longer bob to see if you like it. Thats how I did it and I wanted it shorter so I cut it more myself this time. ☺♥ Now my hair is 24 inches. Very long :/
I just tried this and I love it!! Safe to say I’ll never be going to a hairdresser again! Took literally 5 mins and it’s perfect. My tips, go longer than you think you want it because I did this and it was actually the perfect length. Also, when setting the band, tip your chin forward and adjust the band as this will stop you going too short :)
This is super helpful!! I've been going crazy looking for a video to cut hair into a bob, I've burnt out my hair so badly with dyeing and stuff my hair looks frazzled. I will be trying this out and hopefully have a smooth growth process. Wish me luck everyone! ☺️
I cut my hair today with your instructions and it turned out great! Though I left little front sections off the ponytail just to make sure they won't get too short. Also had to even just a tiny bit on the back. Perfect! Thank you for this tutorial. :)
I don’t get impressed easily by anything but the simplicity of this DIY video is fenomenal. You just save $50 right there and don’t have to put up with annoying little talks at the salons.
I tried this Long Bob Haircut today on my own hair. Glad to report that it came out great :}. Didn't have to do much touching up, it pretty much came out just right. Very pleased with my results......Yaaaaay! TYFS.......
I'm cutting about 15 inches off in 3.2.1.... I'm going to video it for my daughter's, because they're at school. I have been Watching videos for weeks and this way seems to be the least complicated. i have really thick hair though, so i will take note to do it very slowly as to not make it uneven. thanks everyone who commented, that cut their own hair. it really helps the next person! i might upload my video public
I used this video to cut my own hair today, it turned out to be exactly what I wanted!!! :-) Thank you for this great tutorial, this was the first video (ever) that gave me enough confidence to cut my hair for the first time. THANKS!
I've tried cutting my own hair in the past, but I always end up going to the salon to have it fixed. But I tried this tutorial just a while back and it turned out well, it's like having my haircut done by a professional😊
I just did it :D I didn't cut so much as you did, because I was afraid, that I'd screw up, but it looks good, and it's a little bit different as it was. Thanks ;)
just used this video to chop about 10" off my hair. wish I'd left about an inch or two more, more shoulder length than I did but oh well. it's just hair. I've cut my own hair a lot but this was a big project for me. thanks for sharing this video. it helped guide me and saved me from totally ruining my hair.
Wow this works! Cut mine today, I'm so happy. The only thing is the back turned out slightly uneven so I had to ask my hubby to fix that...I recommend!
Love this video 💕 The cut was perfect for my small, straight strands.Correct me if I’m wrong, but this cut works best on people with fine, straight hair. If you get the “mushroom” or “bell” look, it’s most likely because your hair is naturally thick and full of volume (which is the hair I’ve always wanted!) I could be wrong.
Mine's a shoulder length hair and having more volume in the back was pretty much troublesome. Thank you for this video. I did the cut myself and............ it's a win🔥
thank you soooooo much for this tutorial! i just came back from the salon with my hair looking chunky and still to lengthy for my taste. so i tried this out with shears since thats all i had at home:)) TIP: in tying the 2nd hair tie, give some allowance since it will get shorter from all the final touch ups later:) good luck!
Needed to trim a bit at the back since I forgot to tie the elastic "as close to the hairline as possible". Will not make that mistake again next time I try. Otherwise worked out really well this time. Thanks for the clip :) !
I tried and while it did not look as I expected, I'm still satisfied with the result. My bob somehow ended up with really long fronts and quite short back (is my head freakishly big or something?) so I adjusted the fronts to make it better. I did horrible things to my bangs but when parted in the middle like I always do, it looked good with the bob and did not get into my eyes (the reason I hack it off anyway).
@@MissCupcakeslover i must say its not bad, this method is better than the way i used to cut my hair before, which is having it in low twintails and cut it
If you are bored, maybe you would care to look at Dr. Vernon Coleman's videos and a channel called 'Computing Forever". All is not as we have been told by the government about the alleged 'pandemic'.
I tried this and I'm super happy with the result! :D I just used just one elastic though as I think the cut comes out less angled this way and I saw that from other videos (including yours of How to Cut an A-line Bob). Thanks a lot!
It took 1½ hr, my hair were of medium length, I wasn't sure that it will turn good but now I am obsessed!!! Thank you for this perfect guidence, I am getting some touch up from my mom though 😂😝😅 :)
This worked for me! thank you :) i have SUPER thick hair so I had to keep cutting and cutting my ponytail, but once I got it all even it looked really good.
It worked very well for me. I could skip the very last step my hair already looked good enough for me I was nervous because I'm type of person with lots lots of hair not like the girl's hair in the video. But Some how it worked and I'm happy with result
I'm in love! I just cut my hair and straightened it and it looks good! now I'm gonna have to straighten my hair everyday because my hair is normally bushy and looks like a bush ZZZZZ lmao thanks for this xD
Kindly help me helen .. i have wavy hair. So i didn't select it on my stylist recommendation. Had i made a right decision. I skip it to think that this hair cut suits on straight hair. It's my question to u as u said u have this hair do. If u don't straight ur hair with this hair cut what they look like. ? Waiting for ur reply. It will help me out of feeling of unsatisfaction. By the way i took forward cutting instead but i feel that i made a wrong choice. Help me out! Waiting 4 ur honest reply
You're the best! i just cut it and the result is very good! Thanks for sharing! This hair style is easy to take care, very suitable for me, simply and natural! Thanks again :)
I cut my hair about 5 minutes ago and took a bath. I picked a safe option as i x really want short hair for now. However, i need some angle for my hair so i cut it about 2-3 inches only. I must say, it does not look perfectly 45 degree angle but enough for a hint of medium long bob.
The end result looks better than all the cuts shown in salon videos. In the UK the hairdressers are beyond bad, they are actually evil IMHO, and expensive. I will try this thanks.
MsPrajakta8 I spiral perm my hair now and it is even better because if it is a little uneven it does not show like it does straight. I just curl my bangs sometimes.
Whn i went to donate my hair to cancer patients , hairdresser cut my hair in the same way nd results were amazing. I nvr thought it wll suit me. But it does.. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Sally Giancanna me too! Remember, your hair, your ideas, your choice. If it doesn't turn out as good as you'd like it to be, style a little and rock it!
Gonna try this! Because my long hair are damaged :( and salon barber wont cut this length for me. And i dont know why... Btw can i cut this style with dry hair instead of wet hair?

Sally Giancanna me too! Remember, your hair, your ideas, your choice. If it doesn't turn out as good as you'd like it to be, style a little and rock it!
