Gizmo Kitten well, the dog was practically his only friend I guess u could say family and without the dog he wouldn't have anything to keep him happy and without the dog his life would be miserable. Though I do agree u shouldn't stop a whole city just for ur dog
Edit: probably gonna get some hate from this

I am so glad I watched this again, as new things stood out to me on the rewatch.
First of all, the movement of the city, I swear I am wracking my brain trying to recall if I even acknowledged this before, I am fairly sure I did not notice before because I had no idea the city was a train, but on the rewatch I now see that the city is in fact "breathing" with the train's movements. Another thing was the mural the kids were drawing, the city as a dragon being fed, this had no significance the first watch and I love the inclusion of things like this in media

for me, I assumed the city was moving at 3:43, I was unsure of whether or not this was just the dust storms, but for some reason it clicked that the city was moving and it ran into such dust storms; this specific scene also is reminiscent of many movie scenes atop trains

Wow, what a world they constructed. Fantastic animation, I really like the art style, the ending blew me away. It's a bit ironic to me how this place looks so industrialized and advanced, yet bears winding streets instead of the grid plan, like old pre-Hellenism cities.

I'm not a great critiquing kind of person, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say this. This animation probably is meant to say that when the world is a distopia, and no one realizes what they're doing to the environment, only those who appreciate what's left of it will be able to stop the chaos. Or something like that.

Having been there it is because you must squeeze everything you can out of the littlest detail and appreciate the great difference between whatever it is and not having it. For example not having a running car compared to one that is old, no a/c.. so much better.. BUT having one $30 car or another? How much hardship is it saving you from...

So, the city train is modern society. An industrial behemoth that is chundling blindly forward, consuming everything in its wake as everyone rushes about keeping the damn thing running without ever taking a second to see the world around them. Ignoring each other as they keep their head down and do their bit.
And it isn't until someone slams the breaks on the whole thing that people take a moment and stop and see that we live in a pretty beautiful place. When we actually slow down to appreciate it.
    That's what I got.

the man desperately tries to pull that lever but fails to do so, the bin opens up, in a last ditch effort to save his dog he jumps and catches the dog holding it close, memories fly through his head as they plummet down. He holds the dog close to keep it calm and then black.

Wow! Mortal Engines vibe. It's amazing how once you've seen the twist the first time, you can go back and pick out so many tiny details that give it away. The train whistle, signal crossing and clicking tracks in the first few seconds, the swaying of the whole city as it moves along the tracks, the streams of clouds going by signaling that everything is actually moving. And you repeatedly hear signal crossing sounds and faint train whistles and the whoosh of steam as from an old time steam engine train. There are constant train related sounds in the background that at first you dismiss as just city sounds, but then realize you were hearing the train the entire time. Very clever use of sound design throughout!

I have some questions I'd like to pull up
    1. How many animals do you think the train ran over during its journey?
    2. Why is there only one switch just to stop and/ or move the train, there's no fancy control board or anything?
3.what was society's goal by building entire train spanning the global caring the remainder of the human population? the environment is suitable for human habitation! ( I know what you're thinking I already know that's the premise of snow piercer).
    4. Garbage is a good fuel source for the train but it is highly polluting, so why didn't they just use solar power or wind?
    5. What do you think the price of the train was? My guess is that it was probably astronomical!
    What do you guys think?

    • @mordaidustom1451
      @mordaidustom1451 6 років тому

      1. little to none, the train is gigantic and loud. Animals would hear that contraption coming a mile away.
      2. There is a fancy control board. Did you not see the wall of wheels and valves inside the engine room?
      3. It's meant to be taken more metaphorically than literally. Another answer is that when the humans built the train, the world wasn't suitable for habitation, but they have been on the train so long that the world regrew itself while the population remained unaware.
      4. Solar and wind probably couldn't generate enough power for a train like that.
      5. Less than that dog's smile

I have to say I highly enjoyed this, from the animation style, to what I could understand of the story. Beyound that, I was really drawn into the world. At the begining I thought it was a "regular" city. Further in, turn out it is futuristic. At one point I thought "post-apocolypse" due to what looked like sand storms. And finaly the ending that made me take a double take and wonder what the heck is going on in this world!

I may be stretching here buuut, what if there is a deeper metaphor within this really interesting animation? The man's action of pulling the lever was done out of compassion and love for the dog, consequently causing the entire train society to stop functioning. Now, this is a big assumption, but to me I perceived the society to be seemingly akin to a factory-like dystopia where individuality is not valued and morality is under appreciated, and this realization of love stopped the society in its tracks (literally) and metaphorically opened the way for an entire new world (as seen at the end of the story). I don't know lol, just what popped into my brain upon viewing it
