Dear people of Ethiopia, Hello, I’m an Egyptian Student in Cairo University. I see that many people think we Egypt want Ethiopia’s downfall and that we hate fellow Africans. This is not the case. We just want to ensure that we have drinking water as we already have water shortages in the country, and we wish you all the best. Hopefully we will reach an agreement God willing, and we will all advance forward hand in hand to stop human suffering
@@elnatabekele1020 ah but you see, we on Egypt believe it will. We don’t need another conflict in Africa, and we will God willing reach an agreement. Greetings from Cairo
@@elnatabekele1020 even just limiting the flow of water is a disaster waiting to happen. The citizens of Egypt need nearly every liter of water that comes from the Nile either for drinking water or agriculture. If the Ethiopian government holds too much water back while they fill the reservoir, not enough water will make it to Egypt to sustain the population. This would result in a horrible famine and likely death sentence for millions on Egypt. The dam would be blown up long before that would happen though, but then there’s likely to be a war. The only way that Ethiopia can keep its dam, without the Egyptian government blowing it up to save the lives of its citizens, is to fill up the reservoir really slowly over the course of decades. The Ethiopian government doesn’t want to wait so long for a return on their investment, and that’s where the conflict arises from. Once the reservoir behind the dam is filled there will be no issues regarding the need to hold back water. Once the reservoir is filled, it becomes much easier to manage the water output from the dam to acceptable levels for the Egyptian government. That is, unless it’s discovered that they need to hold back a substantial portion of the Blue Nile just to prevent the reservoir from evaporating away, and decrease in volume, but there are other solutions for that.
Great video! A very long time ago I spent five weeks as a backpacker travelling across Ethiopia, up from the Kenyan border and then crossed the border into Eritrea (this was before the border war). I never realized how central the geography of the country was to its history until this video! It is an amazing country, and has so many unique features: a unique calendar, a unique way to tell time (to Ethiopians noon is 6 o'clock) and totally unique food. I would love to think it might be an economic powerhouse some day. And with the new port opening in Somaliland, its economic opportunities are growing!
@@mwanikimwaniki6801 noon is 12 there in Ethiopia, the day starts by 12 morning(6) then 1 is(7) for us , then midd day is 6 (12) for us then noon 12 is (6) for us/you

I hope Egypt and Ethiopia can eventually work something out. Every Nation deserves a chance to prosper and give its people better life. But it shouldn't have to make people of another land suffer for it. Hopefully for the two nations, they can work something out so it doesn't end up in conflict. Water is good for no nation good for no people. Especially the children of those people.
Its not about deserving , suffering or working together Its about SHARING , Egypt wants all the Nile for itelf , ethiopia wants it share ! Regardless of who suffers or not , its a resource
If Ethiopia wants to prosper over the destruction of another nation, then Ethiopia needs to die, but don't worry Egypt cannot be defeated this easily. Ethiopia is a pathetic country and that Dam won't solve their real issues. They will remain irrelevant and poor, hungry and shirtless. That Dam will just be the symbol of their arrogance that failed them.

As someone who grew up in Ethiopia, just wanted to say thank you for the in depth research you obviously put in and also for opening even my own eyes to interesting possibilities. Your analysis of growing populations and resulting ethnic sovereignty tensions shades interesting light on the Tigray war. Unfortunately, most of Africa might have to deal with similar issues as part of their "growing pains". @@stereomachine that's because most of the tribes lived in very isolated regions, causing micro evolution in their specific environment, often times with very little interaction with other tribes. This also implies a certain degree of imbreeding (as was the case for most of the world at some point) The argument of "most genetically diverse" is kind of a meaningless term, it does not say anything about who they are, what they look like, what that means and in fact the skin color can be very different between groups, the Neolote people for example are much darker than most other african people's.
@Obscure Wondering this is such a blind interpretation on race and ethnicity. "white people" and "black people" mean practically nothing when it comes down to it. thats just the american viewpoint because all of the european ethnicities were slapped together and all of the african ethnicities were forced together. you realise that racism from especially anglo ethnicities towards irish and italian ethnic groups were significant in both america and australia right? or that theres still racism between just the ethnic groups native to italy to this day? even in asia, the major ethnic groups of china, japan and korea (and yes each nation has their own diversity of ethnic groups) are distinct from each other and have come into conflict in the past. saying race isnt an issue because of your ignorance is not an argument, its an admission that you dont understand ethnic divisions in humanity on anything but the absolute most basic surface level.
Ethiopia has some of the most interesting religious history. Their dynasty for centuries said they could trace their history back to the Bible's King Solomon, had a Jewish population, and had one of the oldest Christian denominations. One of the underrated histories around the world
what makes Ethiopia unique is that it has special place in both the bible and Islam. in the bible it has been mentioned 44 times. In Islam, prophet Mohammed warned his followers no to declare jehad in Ethiopia. The Christian state of Ethiopia has sheltered the followers of prophet Mohammed when the Muslims were persecuted by the mecca ruling classes. prophet Mohammed has told his followers to go to Abyssinia where everyone has lived in peace and harmony regardless of their religious difference. following his order, the first Muslim pilgrims arrived Aksum in 615 ad which is regarded by Muslim scholars as the first hijra. their enemies came too Aksum and offered to Chirstian king enormous amount of gold if he hands over the followers of Mohammed, but the king rejected his demand.

The Christian pilgrimage first went to Ethiopia and not Jerusalem. It was changed to Jerusalem in 325 at the counsel of Nice; when the Roman Empire took over the "New Relegion" now known as Chtistianity. Geez or Ethiopic is the parent language of all the so called Afro-Asiatic languages. Hence, the Geez Alphabet is the foundation of the Greek alphabet by way of the Pheonicians, who originated from the Horn of Africa. The Sankrit of India, Hungarian, Armenian and Assyrian, Hebrew, Arabic etc. are all languages with Geez as their root or parent. In ancient times; the borders of Ethiopia was at China. Thus, according to Herodutus; India is Eastern Ethiopia. We can safely conclude, that Ham, Shem and Japhete were all Ethiopians. The Romans also mentioned the Ethiopians in West Africa. I am from the US and I think Ethopia is a great example of freedom and independence from other nations. They are focusing on developing their country and increasing the living standards of their people. "The history of Ethiopia could also be called the history of humanity. The question is not if this history is well documented, but why it's not thought widely in school. The time necessary to study the tomes that refer to the Nubians as the forbearers of our civilizations is enormous. The world owes Ethiopia for its history, astronomy, agriculture & all the other sciences, & John G. Jackson gave ample references to validate this claim. Ethiopia's history is incredible & a treasure to the world & it's a shame that it has been distorted by the persistent Eurocentrism." [Ethiopia and the origin of civilization]
Ethiopia Is Artificial country, Man Made country like Israel and Not Real country. It's Fake, The People don't belong to each other And injustice are the way of living. Am Kenyan and in my opinion Ethiopia should form a federation with us(Kenya). A lot of opportunities will be generated for our people. The highway from Nairobi to Addis Ababa should be expanded to a huge freeway and also have a fast train in operation between the two cities and a well connected infrastructure to the LAPSSET project in Lamu and Mombasa for exports and imports. Kiswahili language and Amharic can be taught in all schools within the federation. Afrikans should do away with all colonial languages. In the words of Malcolm X, it's only a fool that can allow his kids to be taught by an enemy. "Tuko pamoja milele daima."
Interesting idea but I don't think it would work. It would be wiser for Kenya to form Federation with Uganda Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania and maybe with South Sudan and for Ethiopia to form with Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia.
Exactly. I am Ethiopian and all points you mentioned above are always in my mind. All East African countries must be confederated and that will be no doubt a huge potential in all aspects for every country. Kiswahili, Amharic[አማርኛ=read as amargna], and Somali the Trio popular native African Languages with Geez script of Ethiopia/Africa better be a working languages. Thank you for your points bro.
Out of everywhere in Africa to visit, Ethiopia is by far the first on my list. It looks so beautiful, the food is so good, and the people seem so welcoming and proud to share their culture. Hopefully once the coof restrictions die down, I can get to Ethiopia. I've always loved the way Amharic looks and sounds too.

I think the biggest issue with Ethiopia is that it is an empire dressed as a nation. Ethiopia has the numbers in her favour of wealth and power but if the peoples are not loyal to Ethiopia that will not matter
@@joninator7858 Ethiopia is a medevil Empire that unified via conquest, even if most of the population lives in the central moutainous region there's still little unity. @@madmoblin So is Russia, china, japan, Norway, Germany and many other nations. Most nations started off as empires/kingdoms. great video but to add about Italians being there for five years _ they were never able to go beyond some cities, they were mainly in the capital _ outside the city everyone was fighting them. This is why we say we never colonized because though for the outside world especially for Europeans it looked like Italians were governing Ethiopia but from inside they never never.
weirdly enough we survived, we quickly found out that the water dam was just a propaganda effort against Egypt ,because we found out that they don't fill up the amount of water they keep saying they will due to the dam being built in a rush. Moreover the Ethiopians have alot of debt racking up and a civil war that crippled their army which resulted in them having no reserves. Which resulted in them needing to take loans and not being able to complete the dam that will cost them around 7 billion dollars now. Lastly, The Europeans and Americans are on Egypt's side now due to the Ethiopian President being classified as a war criminal and also Egypt helping out Europe recently with gas exports from the Ukraine war.
You looked at this in the big picture, and took a good and rigorous trend at the the trends patterns involved - like a good historian would. Therefore, you've earned my subscription. :)
Imagine the generations of 2100s watch this very video:) Keep up the good work Ethiopia because you will be the new China of Africa if not the world. Your present unrest is not your future set; you will soon become fluorescent for your people and the world.

Dear people of Ethiopia,
Hello, I’m an Egyptian Student in Cairo University.
Clearly u don’t know much bout the dam it will just limit the flow not stop it and best believes we will reach an agreement…love from Ethiopia

Greetings from Cairo
@@balclava4937 ur right and I hope we will reach to an agreement as well after all war is not the solution
@@elnatabekele1020 true

Your analysis of growing populations and resulting ethnic sovereignty tensions shades interesting light on the Tigray war. @Obscure Wondering this is such a blind interpretation on race and ethnicity. "white people" and "black people" mean practically nothing when it comes down to it. thats just the american viewpoint because all of the european ethnicities were slapped together and all of the african ethnicities were forced together. you realise that racism from especially anglo ethnicities towards irish and italian ethnic groups were significant in both america and australia right? or that theres still racism between just the ethnic groups native to italy to this day? even in asia, the major ethnic groups of china, japan and korea (and yes each nation has their own diversity of ethnic groups) are distinct from each other and have come into conflict in the past. saying race isnt an issue because of your ignorance is not an argument, its an admission that you dont understand ethnic divisions in humanity on anything but the absolute most basic surface level.

what makes Ethiopia unique is that it has special place in both the bible and Islam. in the bible it has been mentioned 44 times.

The first migration took place in the fifth year of the Proclamation - in A.D. 615.
The king of Abyssinia welcomed the Muslim refugees from Makkah into his kingdom. He gave them sanctuary, and they enjoyed peace, security and freedom of worship under his aegis. About a year later, the Muslims in Abyssinia heard rumors that the Quraysh in Makkah had accepted Islam.
If it was true then there was no reason for them to live in exile. They were homesick, and they decided to return to Makkah. But when they arrived in Makkah, they found out that not only the rumors they had heard were false, but also that the Quraysh had stepped up the persecution of the Muslims.

The above-mentioned episode happened in his youth. Now we come to the most important event of his life which took place just eight years before his death. By then, he was the patriarch of the tribe.
The Ethiopian governor of Yemen, Abraha al-Ashram, envied the reverence in which the Ka'bah was held by the Arabs. Being a staunch Christian, he built a big cathedral in Sanaa (the capital of Yemen) and ordered the Arabs to go there for pilgrimage instead. The order was ignored. Not only that; someone entered the cathedral and made it unclean. The wrath of Abraha knew no bounds. In his fury, he decided to avenge it by demolishing and desecrating the Ka'bah itself.

The Ethiopian governor of Yemen, Abraha al-Ashram, envied the reverence in which the Ka'bah was held by the Arabs. @@eliasziad7864 Abraha and King Najashi carry such a strong recognition in the Eastern world. Ethiopians stayed untouched for a long time because they have held their beliefs from day one. And Ethiopians believe Jesus will come back and unite the Muslims and Christians and other Faith's that accept his return. And a true Ethiopian knows he needs his brothers from the other Faith's to wield a special sword that comes to earth. And as long as Ethiopians keep their culture uninterrupted, they will be the ones to lead humanity against the Anti-Christ also known as Dajjal to the Muslim people.
