Concise and good valuable info.. wish I had this three years earlier..
    Some of my personal observations..
1.Edaic is now tough to sit as many are applying compared to 5 years earlier when very few knew about it..lucky me
2.MTI is losing out in favour of the edaic or m med pathways ..
    3. Interestingly many have been able to jump into training due to easing of visa restrictions and the covid scenario giving a lineant entry criteria for ST3
    4. MMed is attractive to many as if you manage to get your subspecialty of interest in a good hospital u don't need training to become a subspecialiyu locum consultant in that hospital (provided they like you).. BUT the cost is a major factor .. I don't know how valuable a MMed would be in your CV ultimately after all the time and cost
    5. Finally CESR is losing out to these other options because of the widespread opinion regarding finding your own evidence and jobs to sort that out in a five year time frame ...let lone the changes that come with the 2021 curriculum
Personal ly I have gone through the MTI/ EDAIC/SAS to LOCUM consultant path but ultimately landed up in training.. obsessed with CCT

Ya there are many options and each has it's own limitations or benefits which one an individual can decide. I agree that , I wish we had this info and much more available before migrating. Our whole purpose is to just give a overview from what we learnt from individual experiences.
All said and done anaesthesia atleast has enough options unlike surgical branches.
Also,I feel the current lot of people entering post graduation training atleast have more awareness than probably what I had during my MD. It is good to see many even trying the primary FRCA route as well.

    3. Try to bring the consultant on interview, so that people can have a perspectives of their lives also in uk, their Lessons, their mistakes, family life, finances, to get a clarity about and being wise , so that one can look upon and make a informed decision to immigrate. Hi. Nice video but there are few misinformation provided.
    1. To sit Primary frca for international students, no sign offs are required. There is something called TEE application (temporary exam eligibility) and can be started as early as 6 months into MD/DNB training.
    2. To get into specialty training, core competencies must be signed off or its equivalence need to be achieved. Which cannot be done from overseas. To get competencies signed you need to be posted in General, obs and ICU rotations during your initial stay/job in UK. You cannot get all competencies signed by working in a subspecialty.

    • @sowmiya5886
      @sowmiya5886 3 роки тому +7

Hi many thanks for your inputs. I agree with what you have said. We just wanted to give a overview on all possible ways. I didn't dwelve into details of any of the pathways.
One cannot sign any competency here by working in a subspecialty here. Subspecialty is only for people who are looking at that specific subspecialty and are unsure if getting into training is what they want .
Sorry if that sounded confusing. I only meant the competency that needed signing off in general
. To appear for the OSCE part of primary frca, one needs to show equivalence of training which unless you are aware to get done during post graduation is a oppurtunity lost. It is good if one is aware about it from the beginning of MD/DNB. But practically what I have seen among peers is that among the options of plab/ edaic/ mti/ mmed/ primary FRCA, Primary FRCA is comparitively difficult. Unless, one is aware of it right from first year of joining post graduation, it delays the migration process.
Coming to core competency sign off, I did emphasise that it is better done in UK and can be achieved with focused approch within one year of NHS work. The scope of this chat way just to give a overview for everyone at all levels and not get into details.

Hello doctor, I am a prospective MTI applicant. I had written PLAB 1 in early 2017 but unfortunately failed, I again took PLAB 1 later in 2017 and was successful this time but didn’t pursue it further because I already had a training position in my home country. I am currently preparing to take FRCA part 1, I would like to know whether I’m eligible to apply for an MTI position because it says "must not have previously failed any part of the PLAB Test."

Dear Jaskaran, please read the following
      PLAB and MTI Eligibility:
a candidate who has sat and passed part 1 of PLAB over five years ago would be considered for MTI
a candidate who has sat and passed part 1 of PLAB between four and three years ago would be considered providing that they provide a satisfactory reason for the change in route to GMC registration
a candidate who has sat and passed part 1 of PLAB within the last three years would not be accepted for MTI.
Candidate should not be in possession of any part of PLAB or have attempted to sit it
      This should be clear enough

Dear Sonali. Yes it is possible, but the road is tougher with higher experience. If you have worked for many years, the non training route becomes the only alternative, as getting into training pathway is quite difficult, depending on your chosen specialty. we will make videos on surgical pathways soon. at the moment most our videos are for orthopaedics and anaesthsia. however, meanwhile you can always head over to the royal college websites and find out the person specifications for urology and/or plastic surgery.
if you drop us an email on your mentorship programme - yourmentor121@gmail.com, we can connect you to non training and possibly training registrars who will be willing to guide you. hope this helps
