Anybody understand the message behind this? I've studied every word and still couldn't understand how the shamans promise to the poet was fulfilled! Is it an example showing how an artist is never truly appreciated until they are dead? Help!
I always interpreted it as the promise is fulfilled because the poet asked for word to "flow from him like rain" however he didn't specify what words and therefore the shaman chose the words "men are made from blood and bone"
I agree it's slightly ambiguous. But I think it's that either, as he was about to die the poet suddenly realised that he had so much left to say, or that he was just protesting his innocence so vehemently. So when the executioner asks if he has any last words, then the words "flowed from him like rain from the sky". I like to think it's the first, though I feel both work. The second scenario would be saying "be careful what you wish for, as you might not get it how you expect". The first scenario would be saying "make the effort to do what you want while you have the time, so you don't regret it when your time is up". Some combination of the two is usually where I land on the subject. TLDR: As the executioner asks for his last words the poet starts spouting off. Cut to the shaman on the hill who says "Called it. Promise kept".
