" The birds still sing when they fall from the sky " It reminds me of my grandfather... he used to play the violin... he cried when I had him listen to Vivaldi... (and he was nearly deaf at that time) ... He died during the spring... he said he would like to get outside and roam the hills one morning... 😢
This song fucked up something in me the first time I heard it. I haven't been able to stop listening. It's such a strong song. His voice, the kind of a sadness in the song and the accuracy. It's incredible.
Been listening to this guy for about 4 years and I'm so happy it reached a million views. I couldn't believe its only had 600k views at one point. This needs way more recognition. Its deep for sure but its still deep enough you can drink and smoke and enjoy and dance. Rip God bless
He was brilliant live! I am pretty gutted his new stuff isn't on spotify but he was telling me how he only got £30 for like 20,000 plays on his first album on there so he chooses not to put his stuff on there anymore. Buy his album and support him because he deserves it. All his new stuff is brilliant. Nice guy too.
I went to see "the dead south" earlier this year in birmingham uk before covid took over! And will varley was one of the support acts... i had never heard of him before, he had a stage presence and a sound i will never forget!
They say "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture." It's true. This song is full of words, yet no words I have at my disposal can fully convey how powerful and meaningful it is. If I had to try, I'd make an allegory about how human emotions are most powerful at intersections, and the crossing between joy and sadness is the most human of all.
I have always loved this analogy. (it was made even better in the first week of the architecture/engineering segment of my degree when the lead tutor told us that the only way in which we wouldn't be assessed, was through the medium of interpretive dance). Varley rocks btw
my sister loves Will Varley and met him at smugglers festival and was so happy when she had her name menchioned and had her picture with him !!!!!!!!!!
Saw this guy at Buryfields festival around 2016, he was absolutely brilliant. Had a chat with him afterwards and very cheekily haggled to buy his CD for about £3 which was all I had in my pocket, he was so lovely and I recently listened to that CD again and it is fantastic. I hadn’t thought about him in years and I looked him up to see if he’s still making music and I’m happy to see he still is. Forgot about this song!
I saw you live at bestival for the first time... it was one of the most memorable moments of my life... up there with becoming a father... meeting you was a dream come true... and here I am, in tears listening to this song again... you have no idea how much this song has helped me through hard times... I'm so grateful for you producing such a beautiful and heart wrenching piece of music... thank-you Will Varley... from the bottom of my heart... if only you knew what this song means to me. thank-you!
Small great things take time to get acknowledged for how great they are. Trust me when i say this, give it time and soon you will see his time to shine.
Don't let it break you mate, I play this to my boys and I've always told them to make their mark on the world, one is at Cambridge studying zoology and the other is 13 and a talented footballer and wants to be a chef if that don't work. Encourage your kids dreams, never tell them it won't happen. Good luck mate.
+mickchannonsghost cheers man .. I appreciate it .. as I type this is have my boy in my arms so I'll explain it to him ... I wish your kids the best of luck
Drank with this man in one of the best cafe's in town... an evening i will never forget i love your music mate :) feel free to grab another one when u come back to belgium
Will Varley is great but his lyrics are just straight up existential crisis inducing.
existential crisis inducing hahahaha made me laugh, thank you
MockinGlobes I was thinking exactly that when I read your comment
Relevant now then? 😅
These are actually the best lyrics I've ever heard.
How is this not recognized internationally?
Because most people don't think much about the lyrics of a song?
because people are simpletons and want shit that repeats and sounds electronic and boring... is what you're trying to say@@nanashipersonne4151
We love to play this Song in our Bar. Its fucking great and our Song to shot n Jameson. :)
My son was born just 5 weeks ago. I am crying right now...

I wish there was a way to share this song, what a tune
This song is aging like fine wine. I really need to see will live
I honestly think I've listened to this about 10,000 times! Amazing song!

reminiscent love is not far from happyness. The point is its sad until you can compare a life, fully lived.
I don't understand how something so poignant doesn't have millions of people listening to it. Beautifully written. Fucking love it.
Because these are the days.....
Because most people don't think much about the lyrics of a song?
@@nanashipersonne4151 really? That’s like, the whole point
poingnant?
Just passed a million views!

Saw this guy last night at a Frank Turner gig. Great guy and his music was awesome.
Jealous!!!!
Was a fantastic support of Dead South, the song is beautiful, eloquent, nostalgic and somewhat melancholic; glorious
Will is the kind of musician that makes us other musicians feel like we're not up to scratch.
Listened to this live a bit ago, don't think I've ever had a true appreciation for music before that moment.
Nor had I ever felt that much emotion.
He deserves the attention he gets through being Frank's supporting act. And hopefully he'll tour alone in a year or two :)
*through Europe, I mean.
well he is the proclamers supporting / opening act and he is great! i got all 3 cd's singed by him
Top man
Well you are in luck! 😂 It's like you knew
WOW....I just love this. 10 years late, but Mr. Will Varley has a new fan......
fell in love
when I heard the first words
my sister loves Will Varley and met him at smugglers festival and was so happy when she had her name menchioned and had her picture with him !!!!!!!!!!
Such a powerful song. I've heard it 100 times and I feel the emotions every time. Well done Mr. Varley, well done.
I'm a song writer. I'm ok with the fact that I will never be this good of a song writer. Some stars just shine brighter, this is blindingly amazing.
Since seeing him support beans on toast the other night, I am addicted to this song, will is a lyrical genius!
amazing lyrics!!! probably the best lyrics of the decade!
+Thomas Park listen to 'we don't believe you' by him then you'll know the best lyrics of the decade
also great lyrics indeed, but i especially like his use of narrative in this song
slow down and listen to RHCP and Pete Doherty :)
One of my favourite songs. Ever? Maybe.
No matter how many times I listen to this it gives me the chills every time.
As below, saw will at Frank Turner last night, sheer genius!
Give this man more views Damn you!
I saw him live yesterday and he signed my whiskey flask :D He is so humble and awesome. A very nice person beyond being a great composer and musician.
It's been nearly a month and I still can't stop playing this song. It's eloquent, it's beautiful and it's genius, because above all it's true.
Maturity beyond his years.. Massive respect
