It's very possible that the song was originally written or even recorded in this key--Ween are known for slowing down or otherwise modifying their recordings after the fact, and the cut studio version of this sounds to me like it was recorded in G and then pitch-shifted down to F#.
Yeah, they're just playing it in a different key. Like Magus said, the original song could be pitch shifted. Transdermal Celebration is like that, where the first chord is like an out of tune Bb note but on live in Chicago the note is an A.
