On December 2nd, 2012, Blue Comet Productions headed out, once again, to Scranton, Pennsylvania, home to Steamtown National Historic Site. Today, ex-Canadian National S-1-b 2-8-2 "Mikado" #3254 was making her final run of 2012, which was a trip to Gouldsboro, PA, dubbed "The Holiday Limited." Please enjoy this moment in history, as you watch her last run for a long time, brought to you by Blue Comet Productions.
This video was filmed on December 2nd, 2012
Special thanks to lukasfols1 and Mr. Fols for bringing boberttrain831 and I along!
I love the sound of that whistle...Amazing!!!!
Still one of my favorite videos of 3254. I got to see her quite a few times, even got a cab ride when they turned her around for the return trip to Scranton from Moscow. Patterson was the engineer.
I was actually on this excursion, it was a truly amazing experience!
I like the "Phoebe Snow" character at the end!
Says Phoebe Snow
About to go
Upon a trip to Buffalo
"My gown stays white
From morn til night
Upon the road of Anthracite"
Great video, Chad! If this is truly the last runs of 3254 I sure am going to miss it. Whenever steam runs again though we'll have to chase it.
Greetings from Chile, and thank you very much for the beautiful work with the videos. I am 100% trains fans
old ... Thank you!
Well you know what they say legends arise and legends fall. And 3254 is a true legend. It’s not the end for her but she will have a long absence. One can only hope that she’ll be just fine and that someday, her exhaust and whistle will once more echo throughout the Poconos
Wow! Those Driving wheels are HUGE! Especially Up Close! 63 inches in diameter
You seem to be a bit mistaken with 3377. That is a rumor for the far future. The decision is between 3254's maintenance vs 2317. 2317 will get her turn eventually, but no one was expecting this.
10:56 sounds beautiful!
Thanks for keeping the real sound of the steam locomotive
This is a wonderful video - cant wait to show it to my grandson. Thanks so much for an excellent job - and posting it so quickly! (I dont understand why the one "dislike" - some bozo I guess...)
It's nice to see sections of the old eastboud main line back in use even if only for car storage.
This is a great video. Love hearing that whistle.
Look at that Steamer, She's a beauty! Nice Whistle as well!
I agree, and thanks!
Excellent video, Chad! I truly hope we can do this chase many more times in 2013...
This engine will never run again.
grate video of this railroads holiday express excursion
Why not send 425 up there next year when Andy isn't using her on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway?
It's now Dieseltown if they run anything at all.
Thanks for uploading this Chad. WE were supposed to go up Saturday to chase, but my son ended up being sick. He'll be glad your video. Nice job! (the Dans)
What a valiant last run 3254 gave. I really hope one day she will be restored back to service, but knowing how poor a condition her frame is in, it's unlikely. One can dream however.
I'm currently drawing a pencil sketch of this train , have got about two hours to go , spent about 30 on it so far.
What kind of whistle does 3254 wear? I have always loved the sound of it.
CN 5-Chime.
Beautiful
Yooo. CANADIAN NATIONAL 3254. THAT’s my FAVOURITE steam locomotive. 2317 is a FIRE steam locomotive as well. But 3254 is MUCH better. In my opinion. STEAMTOWN. PLEASE RESTORE 3254. Despite all of it’s mechanical problems. You need it. And we the people need it.
The chances are very unlikely, plus they've already decided on replacing 3254 with B&M 3713
I like that you show the whole train passing by.
I declare the Canadian National #3254 as a the Mikado version of the Polar Express.
Since she used to live closer to the North while in Canada anyway.
What do you think of that?
I didn't say that. The decision will be made in the future
To clarify for anyone #254 will never run again becaue of tender boiler and frame problem which add up to way yoo much $$$
@@Matts_Conrail_Chicago_Mainline yep i bet a decade or 2 from now 3254 and 2317 will be steaming agian on steamtown property with Baldwin 26 and boston and maine 3713
@PRR5406 Over the winter? Even if this rumor had some truth to it, I doubt there could be a turn-around that quick with that particular engine...
Dang, it’s been 8 years.
I love cn 3254
SO are you confirming 3254 is going down? What's wrong with her?
PRR5406 well after so much use over a long period of time the fire box became extremely thin and was not safe to use
MPT 482 nice lie.
OK, so this is now 2016, and any news on CNR 3254. Will she be restored and put back into revenue?
Nope, Frame's bent to piece's likely being scrapped now, Sad Ending for 3254
Stephen D James no it won't be scrapped just will never run again.
It may come back it will run again when they finished 3713
From everything i have read steamtown is not interested in restoring the 3254. After the 3713(which i don't know what stage of the game they are in with it) The Canadian Pacific will be next.
How did the frame get bent? Was this found in an inspection after this run?
Great video!
The last run of 3254
how will 3254 operate again??
they need to replace the fire tubes
@@pdmaviation1974 I was told her frame is bent and she would NEVER run again. I hope that's incorrect though...
Birdman I’m sorry, but its true..
When will she return?
Probably never. As I understood it her boiler is shot. That's why they've been restoring the Boston and Maine locomotive.
Never. She still is legally allowed to run, still has hours. Steamtown won't use it because of leaks In the boiler and the frame is bent. I was told they don't have plans to ever restore 3254.
Never.
Great video! Steamtown is going to focus mainly on restoring #26 and #3713, and then they will start to work on #2317 and #3254.
When are the 3254 and the 2317 going back into service?
Duncan Campbell From what I have heard, there are no plans for 3254 after work is complete on 2317, I don't know what engine will be next, but it probably won't be 3254.
:(
unionpacific88 I went to steamtown this year and they said that it would be like this 2713 then maybe 3254 or 2124 but they said probably 759 would be first
unionpacific88 3713 not 2713 but 2317
I guess no heat on the return trip...
There's a persistent rumor that 3254 is going to be retired and 3377 will be brought on line over the winter. I know 3377 was originally going to be re-habbed after Steamtown made the Scranton move, but 3254 was ready to roll. Could there be any truth in the story, and could a swap out of parts happen that rapidly?
@@regularguy7266 Wait REALLY. was it an employee who told you that?
@@regularguy7266 It was not someone you know right?
@@regularguy7266 Okay thank you.
@@regularguy7266 Question. Have you been to Steamtown? Can you go?
@@regularguy7266 Okay then. I only asked because I thought if you could go then you could get confirmation you know.
Steam to Gouldsboro usually Diesel
I'm pretty sure RRMPA is not letting 7002 go...
