I am a mud baby. I used to teach and now I'm not physically able to throw pottery anymore. I sold my wheels and my brand new kiln and I mis it so much. Then I decided to search for videos on pottery on you tube and my heart is singing! Thank you so much for sharing your lessons, tips, and skills with us. I'm so very grateful!
I've never thrown a single pot, but can't help but find myself mesmerized by your videos. I found your channel a few months ago and binged every single video on the channel and look forward to each new upload. Thanks for what you do!
So pleased you think so, there is certainly something quite hypnotic about the process, especially the throwing and trimming portions. Thanks for taking the time to watch, Jason!
I've recently started taking ceramic classes and your videos are extremely informative and helpful. Your detailed explanation about each part of the process is just incredible. Thanks so much for taking the time to show us your work and to provide free content on UA-cam.
I don't know what to say..."This is a wonderful video! Thank you for sharing" seems woefully inadequate to fully express my gratitude, and to fully recognize all the thought and hard work that went into not only making the pottery, but the video as well....but uh.....This is a wonderful video! Thank you for sharing 👍😊
Hi, I'm a novice potter and have discovered that I'm rather a messy one! Your patience, precision, and attention to detail is wonderful. While I will never reach your standard your videos continue to inspire me to try harder ☺
I’ve seen so many of your videos that now I can hear your voice in my head when reading your book 😂 It’s like you’re reading it to me. Thank you Florian! I enjoy your work so much ❤
Merci infiniement Florian. Bon travail! ;)
Whenever I see a big discrepancy between views and likes, i don't understand it at all. This video had been viewed 12,882 times by the time i saw it and couldn't help but comment, but it was only deemed good enough to receive a simple thumbs up 592 times. Whenever i see a video where i've learned something new it deserves a thumbs up. Whenever i've seen a video that entertained me, i give it a thumbs up. Whenever i've seen a video that didn't help me with my search, but at least the quality was good, the effort that the creator made is worth a thumbs up to me. Maybe i'm preaching to the wrong choir in this comment column but well i had to get my opinion out there. So Mr. F. that was an informative, good quality and entertaining video, once again. I wish everyone a pleasant week
thanks so much for helping me with all your information, everyday i find a new video of yours and the next day try it on the wheel. so happy with the results :D thanks for your help
The white glaze looks beautiful, I wonder if they could look even better with the effect on the edge like the greens because the greater contrast between colours. Great video as always.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt and beautifully simple instructive videos Florian!! I have recently found this potter passion in me and am learning the wheel. I love it so much and you have gifted me so much insight. In gratitude for your amazing sharing....sending you so much love ❤
So involved with so much detail. It's amazing all the time and effort that can go into one piece. It doesn't seem like it could be worth the $ for the creator. I guess it's a labor of love. I'm new to pottery and loving it very much and your videos have been really inspiring and helpful. I'm excited to head over to your website and see about purchasing one of your pieces. Yours will be my first pottery purchase!! 💜
I'm new here. Just found you on Instagram. This is fantastic! I just took my first pottery class and am excited to learn more about this craft! Definitely subscribing here! :)
Hello! I'm a new subscriber and I'm appreciating these start to finish formats. I'm still in the early stages of my pottery journey and I am learning from so many sources. I enjoy the elegant simplicity of your functional designs and the way in which you present your videos. I notice that a crazed appearance is part of the finished product. You've probably flogged the question of food safety dozens of times in other videos, but I'm curious about your POV on crackle/crazed ware.
8:53 that would be a cool moonjar-esque vessel if you attached 2 near identical bowls together and trimmed out the base of one of them as the opening. The foot that you trim would be an interesting shape for a rim
I just made a few bowls right before the semester ended, and they were super hard for me to make, with their shape and the tall feet that I trimmed for them
Hi Florian! Incredible video as always, I think this may be my personal favorite form of yours. Did you get your crackle glaze recipe from somewhere or did you create it on your own?
Thank you for the amazing tutorial video! Next time i'm at the wheel i'll take one pound, although i'm using the kg method :) I'd like to know what kind of clay are you using. Thanks again!
Lovely video (as usual)! I do have one question about the glazing process. How come you let an extra-thick layer of glaze pool in the bottom of the bowl? Looking at the footage of the finished products, it seems to disrupt the pattern of the glaze, and I'm wondering what purpose this serves. Thank you!
The method of dipping the bowl in the glaze is not in one movement, but for a brief moment, half is outside. Wouldn't that affect the result? I'm doing ceramics for one month, so I know almost nothing about glazing yet. Thanks for the great video!
Great as always! Just for reference, what height and width do you achieve with the one pound of clay? Thank you for taking the time to make these; they're really helpful.
Haha! That could have been an easy segue to make. Unfortunately, for myself perhaps more than anyone, I’ve avoided most sponsorships so far. UA-cam isn’t my primary form of income, selling pots still is, plus I can’t stand how in video ads interrupt the flow of these making films. I hope, without them, they’ll have a better longevity but who knows! Thanks for watching! That alone puts a few pennies in my pocket without the need of any sponsorships.
Bro can u directly fire the pots with glaze without bisque firing? Also is it practical to buy a kiln and keep it in an apartment with little ventilation and only home sockets?
Great video. Wow, 1 lb of clay to make these pots. I usually end up using more clay to make a smaller pot. I am sure my walls are thicker. Maybe if I make several hundred pots I will be only using 1 lb. I do have a question on your stilts. Are those made of clay? Did you make them yourself? Also the shelves seem really thin compared to mine. What are those made of?
The goodest! He’s really settling in and becoming so easy to look after. Calmer, quieter, sleeps for longer. Currently hates plastic bags blowing in the wind and humans wearing big coats.
@@floriangadsby for the the pup (if possible), I would recommend a moose horn as a chew toy. It doesn't break and lasts years, when my pup was still alive she had one that she loved.
Did anyone else have a heart attack when the bowl went off center while he was trimming the inside? Without fail, my pots are ALWAYS damaged when that happens to me
why do you pack the upmost layer of bowls to be rightside up while the rest is facing downwards? It feels like you can get a lot more bowls in when they are all stacked the same direction.
It’s quite a subjective topic really! Some wheels are better for some people and lots of personal preference comes into play. I personally like using the ROHDE HMT 500, but equally Shimpo and Brent are good options
Your dog is adorable. 🐕 I admire the methods you use , listening, watching in it's complexities that involve throwing the pots from raw clay to where they slowly develop their own character as each pot is unique in itself. It takes passion and patience through the many phases with the result being simply and visually so appealing.⚱️🏺⚱️

I have a lot to learn from people who actually can make this kind of job !
Georgeous. The form itself, a bowl, produced to such high standards, then paired with a glaze that draws you in. Can't wait till your next sale.

Has this become a hobby?
Fantastic!! Very informative
I will take a pottery class after i finish school to finally get some experience with throwing clay!

Indeed they are! That was such fun to shoot, it felt like being in an 8 hour Tom Scott video, from the time he arrived until the time he left.
Excellent!!!
Amazing.....
Love love Ur videos....

great video. thank you. where did you get your throwing gauge? Something you made? Or buy?
It's made by my friend, Darren Ellis, you should be able to find them here: www.darrenellispottery.com/shop/1-pointer (if they're in stock)

Hi Florian,
thanks for the video. What kind of wood do you use for your table (seen on 0:27)?
What type of stoneware clay is this? It looks lovely and soft.
What kind of gauge do you use. Thanks 🙏

Florian, I notice that some of the pots are already glazed? Why would someone want to glaze fire a pot again?
do u produce chawans?
How can I order some?
The dried glaze can become air born when you clean it with your fingers and the knive. Don't you wear a mask to protect yourself?

I do not like how small the base is on your bowls, looks so disproportionate. also makes it easier to tip over. with any amount of weight in it.
