You're doing great! I'm a full time author and a housedad of an autistic 5yr old and a 1yr old. Since having kids my output has gone way down, but I forgave myself a long time ago, now I'm OK with it. For me, the most important thing is quality not quantity and to still enjoy writing.
5K?! Wow, that was a great writing day, Bethany! I'm loving your brainstorming on the Butter book and how you go back to the notes made during the outlining videos to give you more info. Maybe Soren's place could be his lair? But I'm sure you will figure it out once you have more knowledge of Soren and his world.
Yeah, girl, I'm a mom of 4 kids, homeschooling 2 of them, trying to write too 😂 it's not easy. My husband watched the kids the other day and I spent the evening at a coffee shop, writing away. Loved it ❤
Yay! You did great! I'm glad the 10K helped as a motivator. It's also good you know your actual max per hour is 1k words. Yes, you're definitely doing what you can. It's awesome you made time to dive into your book more, plus have some fun :)
You're a rockstar. I get more and more excited to read this every time you vlog. Also, that's my 'Bou! Well, one of... Maybe I'll run into you there working sometime!
I mean once you’ve described the place where Soren lives and have explored it a little, then naming it might be easier. Especially looking into more Fae lore and stuff to see what might be fitting
Niiiiice! 5000 words, amazing! I love the idea of Soren being a conman, Oh, and for his "lair" or whatever, I thought it'd be a funny name for it to be called Soren's Pit. I'm not sure if it sounds as funny to you. But it made me laugh. I can't wait for more!
That's amazing that you hit 5k for the day! Congrats! The 10k challenge is actually one that I've been wanting to try myself so maybe I'll give it a shot this weekend to help myself catch up on my own WIP! Thanks for the push! As for what Soren's house should be called, here are some ideas! (Not necessarily in any particular order). Domicile as a noun (though he might not use that for wherever he lives in the Seelie court since it's generally used as a permanent home term (also generally has to do with country not building, but it's fun to reinvent words sometimes 😉)), dwelling, abode, or maybe a whimsy (or is that too soft, though that could be a fun little quirk of his or even one of the friends). Also, I was looking some stuff up and I came across this when looking up what faeries live in. "Volcanoes: Menehune, Hawaiian fairies, are said to live in volcanoes." I don't know if that has relevance on your story, but I thought it was interesting so thought I'd drop it here.
Thank you! It was really fun to try, I def recommend it and hope you have fun! (Helps a lot if you plan ahead more than I did too haha!) Those are all super fun name ideas, thank you! I actually really like dwelling because it’s so simple and straightforward but also not frequently used, and the others are fun too, I like them all! The volcano stuff is fascinating!
Great job on 5k!! 🎉👏 Also, I love the idea of making Soren more of a conman! I love conman characters! I have ideas if you’re open to suggestions ☺️ What if his ultimate goal as someone who is loyal to the unseelie court, is to implement a ‘long con’ that would benefit the unseelie fae? Another conman character I absolutely love is Sawyer from Lost. He pulled off really crazy long cons in the show (in case you haven’t seen it lol) What if his goal is to plant some sort of seed in someone that is influential to the royal family in the seelie court? He could twist words and whisper in the ear of a prominent figure so that the individual being manipulated could then unknowingly do the bidding of Soren aka the representative of the unseelie court? He could then use Brynn to pull off a really elaborate long con and that could be the deal they make with each other. I hope that makes sense! 😂 Maybe ‘base’? As in base of operations? Haha
Thanks Jen! Yay for con men haha, they're so fun! I haven't seen Lost but now you're making me want to watch it... Love the long con goal, that's super fun... It'd be so fascinating to play with this, I can't wait! And a base of operations is a fun term too, I like that, thank you! :D
Just a thought, though you’ve probably already figured it out, but when you were talking about the prince and what he was trying to do, it reminded me of Zuko doing all the wrong things to get his honor back and please his father. Maybe the fae prince has to steal something from the enemy court to please his father?
Oooh I love that idea, I really need to watch whatever show Zuko is in because I've heard good things about him multiple times now but don't know his story... Stealing something from the enemy court should def be included though, I agree!
That is a huge accomplishment. 4-5k is my max. Oooh Soren. Maybe hohle or antrum. That is the German and Latin word for cave. Props to Caribou. Love that place. ❤❤❤
Yayyy thanks Tammie! Yeah I think that's my max too, but it's a LOT so I'm very happy with it haha... Love those potential word ideas for his place and heck yes, Caribou is the best! :D
Love the Neal Caffrey / White Collar connection, Bethany! That show is so underrated so I'm psyched to hear you not only talking about it but being inspired by it as well :) And Neal is such a good reference for Soren; since he's an enneagram 3, I can see him doing whatever he has to in order to be seen as successful, especially by his father (nothing like a King's validation to motivate a dishonoured prince). Neal is a con artist who makes the FBI an offer to stay out of prison while Soren's core type 3 sin is deceit where he deceives himself into believing that he's only the image he's presents to others and he often makes deals all over the Fae Lands. Fun Poll Answer: How about naming Soren's lair / hangout / home "Whitecollar" it'll be a subtle nod to your inspiration :)
Thanks Avi! I love that show so much too! Yes self deceit definitely seems like it’ll play a role for sure! And lol naming it that would be hilarious!😆
Soren's Home; I don't know why but the first thing that popped into my head was "The Hollow", because of Fey = Trees = Hollow Tree. I don't know if it has the vibee you're looking for, but figured no harm in throwing it out there ^_^
5K in a day is a lot for anyone. 5K while creating a little human is very impressive. Congrats! The only thing I can think of for Soren's home is lair or dugout... not great, but that's all i can think of.
Hi Bethany! Thanks so much for all of your helpful videos. I just published my first novel, The Yellow Badge, with a release day on December 6th!!! I was hoping you could answer a question for me though. How can I access and manage it on Amazon? I would like to add my author profile and pic, as well as add product photos. But I'm not sure how to do that. Thanks in advance!
So glad they’re helpful and congratulations! You just got to set up an Amazon author profile called “author central” and you’ll have access to all that. I think if you google it, it should have some pretty straightforward directions. :) good luck!
Hmm I’m not sure I understand the question? POV stands for point of view so it literally just means which characters head are you in as you’re writing.
Yeah, I can write 5K in 5 days as well, but is it worth anything? It would require plenty of editing. Hell, I’m working on one fast-paced paragraphs of 300 words for 3 days now. Revision, revision, revision. Looking for the correct words to make it dynamic.
Yeah it really depends! If I had kept going everything else would’ve been total garbage so the amount of edits it’ll need really depends on if the ideas are flowing or not!
Honestly... to not try to "do it all" haha... Growing a baby is wildly challenging sometimes, and for a huge chunk of this pregnancy I haven't been up to doing much else, and I've been learning to just be okay with that. It's a very short season, and the kiddos are more important than writing, so I let it go when need be and know I'll come back to it in the future! :)
I hate having an opinion on these things BUT: Soren...with rings of power #2 just out do you think that name is a little too similar to Sauron, for connotation's sake? There's a lot of ROP viewers who don't know the name in written form, only the sound. Especially in an American accent Just a thought.
Oooh I haven't watched that so I didn't even think about it, but that's a fair point... I think it'll depend on when the book is actually published, since that will likely be at least a year from now or more. It might not be an issue at that point, but if it was I could definitely change it. :)
@@BethanyAtazadeh Wonderful, out a year from now…I’m thinking like other literate people here. The Rings of Power are associated with Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. It’s like bread and butter🤣. Granted, you are published and all that, I get it, I’m “nobody,” but…not the best name for the book. I felt “Faith of the Heart” the strongest title for my memoir about my sister’s failed suicide attempt and our family’s dedication to supporting her multiple resulting handicaps for the past 42 years. “Faith of the Heart” is associated with Rod Stewart and Star Trek, Enterprise. Besides, there are thousands of “Faith of the Heart” titles. Just my 2 cents. Wish I had your problem🤣 My best…
Maybe a valuable family... something... crest, jewel, crown, scepter, book was stolen from them but they don't even know what it is that he's looking for because it disappeared so long ago that there is only a cryptic message passed along like a legend through the family line.

5K in 5 hours is GREAT! Really loved your mindset about setting a lofty goal to motivate yourself to do your best and that was definitely a win 😊
Thank you! I love that perspective, so true!
YOU GOT THIS! A little bit every day adds up. I just passed 70K on my first draft.
thank you! Absolutely! And woohoo nice work!
take your time and be sure to rest when you need it too, Beth! i'm rooting for you! you've got this, strong mama!
Thank you so much!☺️

You’re so motivating Bethany! Still a huge accomplishment in one day🥳 I kept hearing “Ketchup day” and laughed every time. Thanks for that 😂
