well i found my build.. didnt play a Spellblade for ages and i liked the Fire Aura concept.. and as a Bonus this build it melts my eyes! Win/Win :D Nice video
Hey Mordarim. Great build, I've been having a ton of fun with it and it's crazy fast. I've been looking at the tooltip for fire(lightning) aura, and running around just aura-ing mobs to check damage. It seems like spell damage from the dagger, passives, and rune sap are all applying to the aura damage correctly, but Brand of Arcanus is not. The attack speed from Firebrand is still very useful, but both the tooltip, and damage numbers on screen to mobs, seem to be unaffected with six stacks of Firebrand.
@@Mordarim I found the bug report not too long after commenting. The good news it, the build still RIPS. And, the melee lightning damage conversion with the Galvanize node still works, so mana strike does outrageous damage with six stacks of firebrand. Thanks for taking the time!
Cool build!. One question tho; why does your build planner include a rune quill with 2x DOT increase? which part of the build benefits from the DOT increase mostly and how much of an increase would you advise aiming for ?
Fire Aura scales with damage over time and the more the better. I also jsut noticed a mistake, it should have been elemental damage over time instead of damage over time. Gives more damage
@@Mordarim dope! didn't realize shock/lightning scales from DOT increases in this game! (new to this class, played only minion builds on acolyte so far :P)
Very nice guide, will try and start it for 0.9, but my question is what is the skill usage priority? Since im completley noob, also what to do with "outrun and outlast" passive during the leveling? skip it entirely until i reach end game? Or grab it when i have X aps?
Skip it until you can reliably get 10 stack up during the downtime of surge on a dummy. Use bran until you get 6 stacks or for clearing vs spread out packs. Manastrike for bigger dudes, with brand inbetween to keep up with the 6 stacks. Surge on cooldown. Enchant weapon whenever you need more dmg and ward for bigger hits. I like to keep it on cooldown during mapping to top of my ward and prevent nasty surprises. You can only regenerate war not hp without the health on melee hit, so consider grabbing that on one of your weapons. You can find example weapons in the talent planner! Have fun
Hello, maybe you've mentioned it in the guide, so sorry if it's redundant. You convert the flame aura to lightning meaning we mostly do lightning damage right? Then, why do you not also convert flame ward to lightning ward? By not taking lightning ward, doesn't it waste the the infusion passive? Thanks for the guide :)
I am going to take the plunge and try this as my first ever Spellblade. Mostly because it is the first Mage build I've encountered that doesn't use Teleport. Can you explain why you need Mana Strike *and* Firebrand? Seems like these are 2 spam skills doing a similar job. How should they be used in the build? In a rotation? And how are you able to hit 30 stacks of the aura when you can only consume for 10 Dormant Energy stacks per Surge? Thanks.
Hope you are having fun with the build! Manastrike and firebrand share a similar niche, but they also complement each other. You get more attackspeed with manastrike as well as an "infinitely" stacking spell damage buff. Firebrand provides you qith even more ward for manastrike as well as flat spelldamage to scale your lightning aura.
One more question and i'm sure i somehow missed it in the video: How do you have that constant Lightning Aura around you? Edit: Ah, i think i figured it out. It's because of the Fulmination Node in Surge (shown at 4:15) right?
Its a combination of passives and surge. Surge gives you more stacks but actually attacking and moving also gives you stacks. Those are specific to the top part of the spellblade tree.
newish to the game. What skill gave the surrounding lightning storm? I had assumed that was fire aura (from flame ward) turned into lightning damage, but that node wasn't taken
Ty for the guide. Two quick questions: 1) So, how does this feel without teleport on the bar? 2) Would idols of "lightning aegis on hit" not be super synergistic for this build?
@@Mordarim Yeah what I meant was how is a build without teleport? Just feels like it would lose tons of clear time. Do you find you're fast enough just stacking movement?
Enchant weapon causes lightning tendrils to zap enemies. There is also a passive that procs additional tendrils in the tree but it has a lengthy cooldown.
I will fill out a 100 point tree in around 30 mins. But you should get the ward per sec and ward per 10 int nodes. The last points can go into any damage proc, elemental, lightning, or ward retention passive.
love this build! new to the game as of the multiplayer beta and enjoying it so far. I was curious about something, though - Firebrand's Brand of Arcanus was changed in 0.9 to generic spell damage, and no longer converts to lighting damage with Galvanize, but in the video you show the old tooltip. does this updated interaction change anything for the build?
@@Mordarim So right now Ive removed the point from Arcanus to just get damage to melee, and its okay till the fix. Im also playing around with Dagger + Fragment of Enigma; to make up for lose base damage. Hey Mordarim, I see the loot filters has physical damage but I can't find anywhere in the build that utilizes %physical damage. Am i blind here? Great video and guide!
@@Mordarim Thanks a bunch! I thought so lol. It was funny because for the longest time I had trouble figuring out why "Damage Over Time" was so important until I finally just READ that the flame aura scales directly with it. Keep kicking butt!

hey dude thanks for the video! i'm new to the game and i can't figure out how to equip two swords or 1 dagger/ 1 sword however. can you please tell me how to do that? would be highly appreciated :)
You have to pick up the dual wield passive for it to work. Daggers also can't be wielded in the offhand with this class. This is only possible for swords.
@mordarim Awesome guide. How well does this build do in the ultra late game, especially on bosses when you are required to do melee attacks for optimal dmg and survival? Also, is it possible to somehow swap in teleport in the build? Teleport is my favourite ability in the game :P
You can push 200-300c with this but i do not think higher is possible, since you really need to hit stuff to keep your ward up. Stuns destroy you, so finding a way to prevent this would let you push 500c+. As for bosses, you lack a bit in single target, bit should be able to facetank nearly all content and abilities. Never got oneshot and I regularly tank the big undead dragon aoe.
As for teleport, i used before but surge gives you just much more dmg. You would need to drop 20 spelldamage because of the cast speed penalty and you would lose a bunch of ward as well as the ability to stack the aura to 20+, hell even 15 would be a struggle.
Really cool Build. do you think its easy to start with for today and can i just use the skills right from the start or would that be hard without uniques/higher level?
It has some really solid base dmg and can clear low tier monos on budget gear. You can certainly do without any uniques! The scalability into high endgame is a bit tough, but I made this one with a fresh start in mind.
thanks for the guide, buddy. I am new to game and this is my first hero to build. I don't really understand the purpose of picking firbrand spec when we already have attack skill as mana strike. Isn't it better to get smth like teleport with some nice defence and cdr nodes or similar?
I am new so may be wrong but isn't the lightning ward point in flame ward redundant if the spellblade passive is already converting to lightning? edit: ah wait i just realised it only converts the flame aura and we probably want to scale the damage from the ward itself
Attempting to do similar cheap - dropped surge for firebrand to boost spell damage and Static specced to unlimited power instead. Wanna see if I just scale spell damage +ele dmg+crit + some attack speed and defences ofc will be enough for big numbers.
The less elemental damage taken is the primary reason we take it. Wven just a 2lp gaze will outperform any helmet we can get out hands on. But you are right, that was an oversight by me.
@@Mordarim thanks, are you certain there isnt a better option? since it also has crit chance modifiers but we never proc crit. 5 to 10% elemental resistance could perhaps be gained elsewhere? Also while i have your attention. What's the reason to keep crystal sword and quilt on rare not exalted or legendary?
Less damage taken is extremely good in this game because of how resistances work. But now that i look at this,... it might be more optimal to take the Mystic helm base because of the crit avoidance and high armour. Would free up one suffix for more life or resistances. A high LP Boneclamor Barbute is also really good. Gives a lot of defenses!
@@dfreshdawg i specifically did not include idols yet because of their rarity. Would have needed to explain them and how to get them to viewers which streches the video to even longer runtimes. But i agree the singularity idol is amazing for this build. Basically free 20% more dmg on all your hits.
survivability on this build and utility are just awesome, however I am finding the damage a bit lackluster, what are the main stats to scale damage? (I only have 29 int atm lvl 76, might be the issue)
elemental damage over time, lighting shred blessing, get the more damage with hits unique idol, pump lightning damage and spell damage. The flat damage is sadly limited and we can´t push too high with this one because of this. You can however look for a + flat spelldamage sword in your offhand instead of lighting damage, a T6 or T7 affix is really good. Should have mentioned this.
I got to say I love your build. Thank you very much. I have one question - You seem to pack a load of stats into health, but the health is always protected with our ward. Is this for the high endgame when the ward can be depleted? I am currently at lvl 66 and I straight up ignore all the health related stuff (still gearing though). Am i missing something?
With the Flame Ward skill tree, why do we not take the "Lightning Ward" node? It seems like the 3 point in the "Infusion" node, are pointless without it, considering our only skill with the fire damage scaling tag is Flame Ward, which does negligible damage anyway. I must be missing something, surely?
Whats the purpose of having 4 LP on every unique? Like most people will never find a 1LP Aurora so why would you have an edited 4LP for your build showcase?
