The invitation thing was in Stoker's book too. It has it's roots in mythology, especially in eastern european/slavic areas. The folklore doesn't have to say much about vampires as we know them today specifically, but it is a trait often attributed to other more or less similar creatures you don't want to have as guests.

8:15 Although there is this joke that Vlad was illiterate we must consider that he spoke romanian and turkish fluently and also he knew some old slavonic (*the language of the church, just like in the west the church wasn't allowed to speak in their own language, the priests had to talk and sing in latin), hungarian and latin (because he converted to catholicism during his last 12 years of captivity).
It was actually pretty rare for a romanian ruler to be illiterate. When Constantin Cantemir became the prince of Moldova the boyars were shocked by the fact that he was illiterate. His son, Dimitrie Cantemir, learned to speak 14 languages. He was the close adviser if Peter the Great. The son of Dimitrie Cantemir, Antioch Camtemir, was a close friend of Voltaire.

Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong, but the invitation thing comes from the Romanian legend of the strigoi, which, depending on its version, has lots of similarities with the vampire myth and is said to be one of Stoker’s inspiration for Dracula.

Fun fact the reason why vampires would absolutely show up in most mirrors now a days is back in Victorian London their mirrors were made with silver inlaid in the glass or the frames his reflection doesn’t show because of the silver and also there’s a old legend that a mirror’s reflection is your soul and since Dracula has no soul his reflection doesn’t show. Either or is an interesting explanation. Also if anyone wants to there’s a very interesting movie called Dark prince the true story of Vlad Dracula. It’s mostly history but it blends some supernatural elements like him being the Antichrist its a good movie I love it

YEAH I heard that theory. Silver is considerred "pure" so evil creatures cant interact with it, hence the missing reflection. But since modern mirrors are made with aluminium, that doesnt apply anymore. Vampires can at last fix their own make up again. What a time to be undead.

As far as the word Nosferatu, there's an old black and white film from I think the 1920s(?) called 'Nosferatu' that had most of it's copies destroyed because Florence Stoker sued for copyright infringement and won because the plotline is basically 'Dracula' without it actually saying it is. From the reading I've done, that film is also the main origin of the whole 'Vampires burn in sunlight' trope.
We're only able to still see it because a few copies were smuggled to America before they could be destroyed. If people are interested I think you can find the film somewhere here on youtube.

What I was taught is that Vlad's father didn't want to go to war with the ottomans so he sent his 2 sons into Istambul to study there.
Vlad was there for 10 years and he might have been assaulted as a kid multiple times by the priests which caused him to impale people later in life.
He also married to the sister of King Matthias of Hungary.
    Also sidenote.
In the Netflix Show Castlevania they Call him "tepes". As far as I know(any romanian feel free to correct me with this if I got it wrong) the word "Tepes" means impale/impaler. It's not an actual name. He was given this "nickname" after impaling 20 000 ottoman.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and it's spin offs also adopted the Vampire's can not enter someone's home unless they are invited in lore. I'm not sure where it originated from or if it The Lost Boy's did do it first.

Yeah, this is not just you. The entire ERB fan base thinks that the writing effort went to Vlad’s lines. I agree with you as well, it would have been nice to have two different intimidating characters rather than just one. It felt like they based Dracula off of basic vampire lore and mixed it with the vampire on Sesame Street.

A vampire needing to be invited in was in the original Dracula book.
There is a scene where a vampire is screaming to be let in. The person inside has to let them in.
Also, as Dracula states in this rap, he is not killed by sunlight. He simply is less powerful in the sun. He walks about in the daylight as a human, he only has powers at night. In fact they kill him at the end of the book by opening his coffin in daylight, and then staking him in broad daylight.

The deal with being invited in was part of old vampire legends. It derived from the early Christian idea that a person or his house that invited evil in willingly would fall victim to it.

During his captivity by the pope, Vlad killed a few guardsmen who entered his home without a warrant/invitation. Maybe the myth of vampires needing an invitation came from this incident?

Nosferatu was an unauthorized adaptation of the novel to the big screen. Hence why they changed all the names. Dracula became Count Orlok. They also invented the idea of vampires being destroyed by the sun. In the novel, Dracula was merely weakened, losing his shapeshifting abilities

Vampire invitation was a thing in the book too, but Dracula managed to overcome it by sending in his minion Renfield to the mental hospital, which was attached to the building where the women were staying. Apparently, a guest’s invitation was enough.
Also, when Jonathan Harker first arrives to Dracula’s castle, Dracula doesn’t come out to greet him. Instead he first tells him to come in of his own free will. Once Harker does, Dracula is all over him. Presumably this somehow puts Harker into Dracula’s power

Also, don't worry to much about pronouncing Wallachia right. I'm from Romania and heard it pronounced several ways (depending on regional accent). 'val-a-kia' is the one I heard the most
