So am thinking if I can construct a mini dam by using overhead reservoir and device a means to pump the water back to the reservoircontinuously. Pls I need your advice. Thanks
Hi, I'm an engineer and I can assure you it wouldn't work well. If, for example, you'd have a reservoir and a turbine below it, it would produce electicity, but still, about 10% of potencial energy of the water when it hit the turbine blades would be lost (various factors), and if you'd use a electric pump to get the water back to the reservoir, it would use even more energy, therefore consuming more energy than producing. Nothing on earth has a 100% efficiency, so unless you find a diffrent way to pump the water back up, the whole process would be useless. Also, the drop for this turbine to be effective at producing energy would have to be quite big (20-30 meters minimum) to get enough power for light bulbs and similar stuff, and even greater for powering more power-demanding appliances. I would suggest you to add an additional reservoir at the bottom and a pulley system to get the water back up manually. Another solution would be a couple of solar panels powering the pump and also charging a 12V battery at daylight, which would then be used to power the pump at night. Solar and wind energy are most suitable for areas with no constant electricity or water bodies around, so I'd think more into that direction. Feel free to reply if you need any further help or ideas, I have lots of expiriences with these kind of stuff.
Nwafor it will work only what you do is to make sure you have enough water, you don´t need to punp the water back the water have to flow back itself, build it near the reservoir to eneble the water flow back in.
