Something they didn't talk about is the LinQ fishing bin on the Fish Pro can be mounted on the LinQ tabs behind the seat, rather than the very back of the craft. This makes it incredibly easy to re-board if you come off. Combined with the non slip mat on top of the bin, it is safer to climb over as well.

I've been waiting 4 months for My Fish Pro to come in and I finally get to pick it up tomorrow. Seeing these two side by side I'm really glad I went with the Sea-Doo. The Yamaha is a Waverunner with some fishing stuff bolted to it. The Sea- Doo is a well thought out fishing platform that happens to be a ski. Nicely done video!

I used to pull a 10' soft bottom (inflatable floor) Zodiac behind a Yamaha Cruiser SHO. Could carry everything I needed in the Zodiac, and could refuel on the water by disconnecting the inflatable and tying it up along side the ski. The inflatable gives you close to an extra 900 lbs. of carrying capacity. Bottom line, you end up with a more capable, and one hell of a lot safer outfit on the water. Now you can go for a "Grander" .......... enjoy!

If you need to haul inflatable, then jetski looses purpose, better to get an actual boat, you can't go fast, and you end up doing twice the work in loading, unloading, maintaining if you need a whole dinghy for this. Im still undecided between stabicraft or fishing jetski

My 2 cents, good review. We have a 2020 wave runner fxho jet fish, it is a lovely ski. I do like it, BUT, it is a tippy platform and not the best load carrying platform. I have had to abandon ship rather than tip it with 2 up, 5 rods with hooks flailing around, and a 70l chilli bin, was a work to climb up over the back and remount the ski. I fish along side a fish pro, it is by far the supeior fishing platform. The wave runner is a touring ski not a fishing ski, I do hope yamaha design a dedicated fishing ski with longer higher hull, more stability and load carrying. We are big yamaha fans having owned bikes and outboards.

I am a huge Yamaha fan as well, I own a 2004 fxho MR1 1100. After all these yrs she's still good to go
I don't have stability problems, I fish the west coast at Wanganui and other likely places around the central nth island, have been in some very tough water, she's all good. I don't have my bait board mounted east west but inline, so if diving, a remount is quite easy. She also has a bow rail and side rails for handling in rough beach launches, makes a huge difference. She also has foot well electric pumps for fighting fish in rough water when your foot wells might become flooded. That has happened to me several times. She also has a higher custom made dash hood to stop huge water hitting me in the face on those rough but fishable day's. That custom dash also helps with the wind blast. Because she's an older heavier craft she handles tough water very well, but is susceptible to a nose dive in a following sea. I am designing a wave breaker to fit to the bow rail to stop this. After owning a Yamaha and trying out a new profisher, I would not swap to seadoo. I don't like that skiddy feeling of the seadoo, foot wells hold far to much water and they wonder around alot causing steering corrections on all but flat water becoming a bit laborious over long rides in rough water, but I have never lived with one so don't really know about them, just the odd ride. What I did not like about it at all, is the extended rear platform, when sitting backwards, fishing, everything is just a little out of reach when the box is in the rear position, in the close position, the platform may as well not be extended. Having had that rant, I never fish two up, tried it once, never again. Might see you out there one day.

I bought a SEA DOO FishPro in June 2021 and quickly got renamed to SEA DONT. From the boat ramp on the first outing, the DONT went exactly .9 miles and lost thrust while the engine rpm increased at the same time (think of stepping on the clutch), so I quickly released the throttle at which time it cut off and would not restart. So to the dealership it went, and continues to call home, 6 weeks later and onward. So basically at $17,000 dollars a mile, I would not purchase this machine, not to mention, being off shore or on an epic trip like in the video. The IDF feature had a recall that left the dealership not repaired and oh by the way, that recall is pretty intense, so most dealerships are going to let you fail on the water because of the nature of the repair and in my case, lost power and was floating with my daughter in a major pass for boats, ships, Yamaha's, Honda's, basically any watercraft that actually works. Oh by the way, if you try to return it to the dealership BRP has already nail your A$$ shut with a clause that states this POS is yours no matter what.. ugh, think twice. You might not know who BRP is (Canada peeps), but you will as your brain aches on calls that you should not have to be making. So basically, SEA TOW insurance ($1,000 per year) + SEA DONT = NOT A GOOD IDEA.

Dont agree... The fishpro is way better in chop!! The fishpros deep V cuts through and disperses the water out and behind the rider, where-as the yammy doesn't really have a V. The rounded hull slaps and disperses the water almost forward and if its windy your in for a wet ride. The nose on the yammy is also very close to the waterline so expect to take a couple of waves over the front. Been out on multiple rides in tough conditions and my mates on yammys have always turned up drenched, while iv only taken minor wind spray. Yes the fishpros handling is not as crisp and the deep V occasionally causes it to bow steer, and not track as true but its a small sacrifice for a drier, more comfortable ride. Sorry for the long winded answer, just my two cents from someone who has a lot of time in the saddle of both machines, not just someone who's taken them for a quick 10min trial 🤙

The Sea-Doo Fish Pro does indeed have a "deep V" hull and, of the Sea-Doo line-up, it's the best in choppy conditions. That said, the Sea-Doo's "deep V" can also get caught out a little by bow hunting, when riding diagonally across chop. The Yamaha FX hull is more forgiving when you have no choice but to ride diagonally across chop. Both struggle in severe swell. Both are pretty good in 1 to 2 metre swell, depending on wave intervals. Though I would lean towards the current Yamaha FX if ocean riding was the priority.

The main thing I'd like fixed/added is the ability to run straight while trolling and facing backwards, that or the ability to face rearward and steer so you can watch your rods. I rigged up a cooler and rod holders on my 2008 FX/SHO and trolled off Guam and kept getting nearly spooled by Yellowfin Tuna before I noticed the bite. If one could do that I'd buy it.

i own a 2019 yammie waverunner FXSVHO. it is NOT a fishing platform. the front storage is absolutely useless when you out fishing far from shore. Dont get me wrong, it is a great ski. Bolting on a high fish-box on the back makes it unstable and hard if not impossible to board should you fall off, especially when you 2 up. if you going to fish off it a lot, go fish-pro. only viable solution to the waverunner is those bolt on side tubbies but that defeats the other purpose of a jetski, as you cant go hooning around if the hoon in you wants to play.

It is probably easier for me to operate and putting it on and off the water on my own. Also cost less to operate and maintain, though I'm unsure of this as i have never owned a jetski or a boat. In trying to decide which one to get for offshore fishing and snorkeling out of Florida east coast, even though I like Yamaha products, it seems they went half ass on coming up with a fishing Jetski, I guess it was all done in trying to get some Sea doo fishing customers. The fact that accessing the front storage is a pain in calm water, I cant imagine what it would be like with rolling waves offshore plus the rear deck is not spacious enough for extra gas with a cooler already there. The Yamaha with a bigger engine equates to high fuel consumption which is something I dont need when going offshore, again, they took a Jetski, put a cooler, rod holders and a fish finder and call it a Yamaha fishing Jetski, nothing wrong with it, but it doesnt have fishing practicality. Yamaha needs to build a real fishing Jet ski not some half ass for a target customer, you are going to loose more potential customers going that way.

Thanks for your feedback. That's good to know. In Australia, watercraft length is not necessarily a requirement for how far you can ride offshore. But the vessel and rider must have the right safety provisions. Both of these watercraft have their strengths and weaknesses. We love the ergonomics of the Sea-Doo and prefer the way the Yamaha FX (2019 onwards) cuts through chop. We can see merit in both, and buyers will make their own choices based on the type of riding they do.

We wish all three Jet Ski brands - Sea-Doo, Yamaha and Kawasaki - would do more testing in choppy conditions.

Yamaha has been playing catch up with Sea Doo for years now. I remember when Sea Doo launched the Spark. Yamaha made some UA-cam vids trashing the Spark for its "plastic" hull. Fast forward, Yamaha comes out with their own "proprietary" plastic hull that they knocked Sea Doo for. They were also late with IBR. Yamaha still has the most useless storage on the market and they have nothing that competes with Sea Doo's IDF. Sea Doo is solving problems that matter to the rider. Yamaha, is simply copying Sea Doo.
I say all this, as a Yamaha owner.

My 08 still as the factory seal .Just can't be an idiot, and over heat the carbon seal with the ski out of the water. Mine has 175 hrs. , and still rips like the day I bought it. Besides, when the pump is running , it will suck the hull dry in a second. Another thing, is that you take the seat off to let the hull dry out any water when your done riding, and at that time, check for any excessive water in the hull. It's all about maintenance, and common sense. Anybody that's been around boats, know things to look for. I've had many I/O boats in my lifetime, and you have to check the shift cable, exhaust, and drive bellows every year for tears in the rubber, or your going to sink. My original bellows on my last boat lasted 15yrs., and the EBay replacements almost sunk my 19ft boat in 6months. I always buy original boat parts from that point on. Same with the Doo if I need parts, dealer parts all the way.

    • @WatercraftZone
      @WatercraftZone  Рік тому +1

Thanks for your feedback. We've ridden both. We're comfortable with the deep V on the ST3 Sea-Doo when the fuel tank is full, but in our experience it starts to bounce around as soon as the fuel load lightens over the nose.
In our experience, the Yamaha FX is more neutral and more accurate in chop, though the 2023 FX HO now needs to have the trim down because the deep cut in the new ride plate sticks the nose in the air.
All that said, we respect and understand different riders have different riding styles.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It shows the Jet Ski community that there are plenty of differing views. And that's ok too.
