@@tkaki6029 making the playoffs can be deceptive. That makes it sound kind you're a top team. But when you get completely WRECKED every time you're in the playoffs then it's obvious you aren't really all that great. Notre dame hasn't been close to a championship Kelly's whole time there and he knows it. Close would be if they played competitively so that there was a chance they could win it all.
As a former D1 athlete, I still remember almost committing to an Ivy League school because of extensive conversations I had with their assistant coach who led recruiting efforts. Fortunately I chose to go elsewhere. The next year he was gone. Head coaching job at an ACC school. I get it. He made a decision for his family and career. But had I gone there to play for him, I too, like Acho, would have had a hard time wrestling with that reality.
Klatt and Marcellus said exactly what I told some friends in a group chat that were bashing Kelly and Riley. I told them I see it like this..while messed up for the players. If you break it down to the lowest denominator. If a company came to you and said we will pay you 3x your salary, buy you and your family a house and car. Would you leave your current job? I know I would. I work in Sales and see it with Directors and VPs. No one will turn down a large pay increase with great perks. And then there may be additional perks they won’t tell us about. Folks are such hypocrites. They act like they’ve never left or moved on to better opportunities for themselves.
I think you have a point but are missing a point. It’s how you do things and treat people that reveal your character. LSU would have prioritized Kelly at any point. Klatt educated me about the structure of cfb influencing here. I think Kelly has a history of deception and bailing
These comments reflect two different set of values, those who believe that qualities such as honesty, loyalty, and integrity still matter, and those who reject these qualities as outdated and not relevant to the materialistic world we live in. Character still matters and is reflected in the moral choices we make."
Perspective smersmective. They know coaches make business decisions all the time. That’s why you go to the SCHOOL you want, not the coach you want. On your visits, meet all the players. If you fit in their locker room and you love the school, go. Never commit to a coach. All recruits know that but some have terrible guidance. I’ve seen it all.
Great discussion Hacho, Marcellus and Klatt made good points and opinions. I always thought that Klatt always outsmarted his son Colin but with Marcellus and Hacho all three men had very good opinions and worked well. I hope they will bring Klatt back
My counter argument to Klatt would be that Kelly has done this very same thing at EVERY program he’s been at (sneaking out the door). It’s the HOW. That is why some feel that Kelly is a snake in the grass.
Acho doesn't receive enough credit for his wisdom. His maturity as an analyst makes me respect his previous play at Texas immensely. If people _still_ think athletes are just a bunch of dumb jocks, here is your sign that stigma was always false. It was created in fear by the lesser to stop those who come from less from rising up. Athletes have a keen sense of intelligence that transfer to all walks of life. We are dorks. We are _also_ wolves.
NCAA should say you can't talk to coaches till season is over. Sucks for the kids coach bailing before probably making a playoff. At least they let the kids leave too unlike years back when coaches would bail and they were stuck.

Listen, this stuff is bound to, has always, and will always happen with coaches playing musical chairs like their going out of style! But at least Lincoln Riley showed truer (not much, but an improvement) character and decency in his addressing of the coaching move with his players! What Brian Kelly did was pure Bush League to his kids, yanking the rug right out from under them! Sad when u make a promise to your recruits' parents that u will take care of them in every way away from home and then pull even a 360 wool over their eyes (the parents)! Kelly then has the audacity in an apology attempt to say to his kids "I'm sorry it went this way you having to find out from other sources besides and before me"! Seriously he'd have been better off taking the high road and not even tried to apologize because it made him sound more ludicrous! Shame on you Brian Kelly but at the same time you showed the entire world your true stripes! Money and ego trump all in your case - callously tweeting instead of getting your team together personally to inform - what an utter disgrace
They make it sound like Notre dame was barely making it, it was terrible couching that caused him to lose those playoff games… he gets out couched a lot and I’m actually looking forward to LSU figuring that out…
But what else is he supposed to do? Due to the early signing period he can NEVER leave ND unless he leaves at this point in the season or takes a year off, there are no jobs that will be open in January, so he either stays at ND or leaves, blame the early signing day for that.
Just because you works, together doesn't always mean you can click together. And by the way, everyone isn't for sale. what profits a man to gain the world and lose his soul ( mind, intellect, character, peace, respect) . Money can't by anything but temporary Gifts and life style. Money can by a house, but it takes more than money to make it a home.
There’s not a chance he left specifically for money. He took less pay then Riley and got almost same money Tucker did at MSU after 1 good season…he didn’t give ND a chance to even counter and get a huge raise…bc he saw LSU and knew he wanted it. He left specifically to establish a legacy as a National Champion.
so no gripe about how Lincoln left after saying he was staying...i think the media just cant fathom someone left their sacred ND for LSU...and OU is being gutted by the other coaches decision
It works both ways. Players leave early, they transfer, they sit out bowl games and even whole seasons so they can protect themselves before the draft. Ultimately everyone is out for themselves and institutions don't matter.
Early signing day is the sole reason for the TIMING of Kelly's decision. Kelly knows that Scott Woodward had to announce a coach now, because of the Dec 15th ESD. That's it. That's the reason. And it's not Kelly, nor Woodward's fault. I disagree that Kelly is merely "chasing the money". Kelly knows that he can't win a NC with the talent Notre Dame gets. LSU has that talent and LSU is committed to athletic excellence across the board, as evidenced by all the recent coaching hires - this is what Kelly means when he says alignment. At this point in time, there is nothing holding back a head football coach from winning a NC at LSU - THAT is why Kelly accepted the job. If Kelly was "chasing the money", he would have let Notre Dame counter.
Brian Kelly brought ND back from the dead and made them relevant again and was only paying him 2.7M a year lol let’s be honest ND looks at their job as the greatest thing since sliced bread and you should be happy just to call yourself the coach of notre dame football their ego wouldn’t allow them to pay a coach the kind of money LSU paid him so there was no reason to have ND counter because they wasn’t going to counter anywhere in that neighborhood not even the same zip code
I don't think it's just the money. I'm fairly confident LSU waved that same nine-figure check in front of Lincoln Riley and Jimbo Fisher, but Lincoln probably saw a significantly easier job in LA than what he'd get in BR and Jimbo probably felt LSU was exponentially more pressure for what was essentially a lateral move.
So, if Luke Fickell just walked away from Cincinnati in an undefeated season for another team tomorrow, these guys are are ok? Cincy should be ok? If Kirby Smart just went to the NFL right now?…please.
I agree 100% with Klatt. These decisions were about money… a lot of it, pure and simple. Kelly and Riley were the head football coaches at Oklahoma and Notre Dame! Last time I checked these are two of the top 10 programs in the country. OU and ND have no restrictions on recruiting or TV exposure or anything for that matter. They recruit nation-wide and are always in the conversation for big time bowls and the CFP. We’re not talking about a very solid, but regional program like a Wisconsin… or a program with limited exposure and backing like a Cincinnati. Peeps are acting like poor Brian Kelly couldn’t win the big one at ND because he don’t have the tools to do so…. Seriously?! The Irish have their own TV network in NBC. And Riley…? The Sooners are in the playoff picture every season with Heisman winning QBs. Explain to me how coaching at USC or LSU is going to dramatically improve either’ s ability to compete on the big stage. Because as a college football fan, I’m not buying it.
Acho is on the money. Lying is not ok just because it gives you an advantage. It's wrong. And they are all on there talking about "developing young men." Think about that. What are you developing when every coach is ready and willing to lie to get ahead? Character matters and coaches should be held accountable when they display bad character and model that for players. So good for Acho standing against Kelly on this. Wiley's argument of "that happens in life, get over it" is nonsense. If a cyber hacker stole all Wiley's money and the judge said "that happens in life, get over it" then he'd change his tune real quick. When things are morally wrong, you shouldn't just accept that. You should have a problem with it, even if it is the way society works.
Notre Dame fan, Good bye, Thanks for getting the program back on course. Now let's go get that Coach to get next, let Kelly take his own heat with him.
Klatt is right. And for the people blaming the coaches for leaving should blame the schools more. USC fired Helton a few games into the season. But I just believe people are salty due to the money.
I am an LSU fan but as just a general fan I can definitely agree with this.....the timing is all jacked up and I don't like it either....The rules do need to be changed. Great argument fellas
Acho has a heart. Maybe he's "idealistic" but without heart you're just a machine. Press the $ button and you will not be able to say "no" no matter how hard you try.
If we know how the college sports works then just be honest then and say “I can leave at any moment but I still want you to come to Notre Dame or any other college”
Klatt seems heartless and basically that he'd leave his wife in a minute if he got a hotter offer. It's not ok to lie to your players, to go behind the back of your university or leave your guys stranded on the side of the road. It's wrong and will never be right. If you leave you tell your AD that you are looking to leave, you tell your players you are looking at another offer somewhere else and you stay until your season is over, you handle it all truthfully and out in the open. The players should have known right after the first LSU phone call
I disagree with Klatt that everyone is for sale, God help us! And I doubt he's as heartless as you say, but he is just being realistic, he's not saying it is right, he's not saying he agrees with it, he's just pointing out that because of the way college football is structured that one university can offer a better opportunity and more money to the coach of another university without restriction as in the LSU offer to Brian Kelly, and the offer is made when it's made so it aligns with the drafting process. College football should be restructured, eighteen to twenty year old young men who are not being paid except for the honor of playing for their school or for the possibility of going to the NFL should not be put in the position of having to find out six days before knowing whether they will make the college playoffs that their coach has abandoned them, and no matter what or who is responsible it feels wrong and it is wrong! and it has to be disheartening for them. In referencing Kelly, Lou Holtz said, "you don't go to Notre Dame for the money, you don't leave Notre Dame for the money." Kelly was already a multi-millionaire, does he need all this money, is his family starving? Does the word GREED enter into the discussion! The lesson Brian Kelly taught his players was given the choice of honoring my commitment to you or accepting the money, I chose the money!
Acho your issue is with the lack of communication with the team and organization. Let the players and staff know you will be moving on. Timing wise it makes sense because those are the constraints now with early signing. Mainly the issue isn't with the idea of him leaving it's with how he chose to leave. Just be a stand-up guy about it. If I am developing young men, then in my eyes, that includes showing them more than the field. But how to rightly maneuver the world. These kids generally do buy in to the BS of the coach for the school then the coach leaves. What needs to happen ultimately to make this seem less damaging is players getting a better understanding of the business side of college football. There are two hit commodities, player and coach. So as these coaches go to recruit the players they are also being scouted to go somewhere else. Be loyal to the men on the field with you while you are there and be loyal to your success.

But when you get completely WRECKED every time you're in the playoffs then it's obvious you aren't really all that great. Notre dame hasn't been close to a championship Kelly's whole time there and he knows it. Close would be if they played competitively so that there was a chance they could win it all.
I really respect Klatt and his takes!!!
Trust me, there are a lot of death before dishoner muhafukas that literally cannot be bought. They're a rare breed, but they def do exist.
Coaches have lied forever. In other news; water is wet.
Brian Kelly is who he has always been. He left Cincinnati for Notre Dame before the Sugar Bowl when they were undefeated.
Acho is my man. Just cause it's the way the world is doesn't mean it's the way it should be. Honest men can succeed
Great takes by all 3! Love your heart Acho!
Klatt Daddy is everywhere today. I love it!
I agree with Acho, it's the timing that bothers me, but best of look.
Joel Klatt went down several levels in this interview. Wow.
These guys are the best when it comes to Sports debate.
Kelly did not leave ND for the money. He never even game the Notre Dame AD a chance to match LSU's offer. He just resigned.
Speak for yourself is one of the best Sport Shows on television they talk sports
Acho great perspective my guy. You absolutely crushed it
Perspective smersmective.
@@Iamhimbutyouarenot thanks for your opinion
Great discussion Hacho, Marcellus and Klatt made good points and opinions. I always thought that Klatt always outsmarted his son Colin but with Marcellus and Hacho all three men had very good opinions and worked well. I hope they will bring Klatt back
13:32 “And do what?” 😂😂
My counter argument to Klatt would be that Kelly has done this very same thing at EVERY program he’s been at (sneaking out the door). It’s the HOW. That is why some feel that Kelly is a snake in the grass.
It’s the same way every coach leaves lol
Acho will eventually be the veteran with wise words and experience to debate these types of arguments.
10:56 Klatt and Acho's reaction 😂😂
Klatt needs a regular shows, dude has great takes. Would love to see him with Colin, they have great chemistry together.
Wow!
They bodied that segment….
Good conversation and debate! College football and basketball needs a commissioner!!!!
This should be the 1st show on any sports channel.
They all made great arguments. Need more debates ike this.
NCAA should say you can't talk to coaches till season is over. Sucks for the kids coach bailing before probably making a playoff. At least they let the kids leave too unlike years back when coaches would bail and they were stuck.
That’s where NFL is completely better than CFB is the structure
Klatt is the best college commentator
Klatt is really good. But Gus Johnson is a freaking legend!!!
Joe Klatt spitting FACTS love when he explains what's really going on
Marcellus sounds bitter and hard-hearted and Ocho assigns like a lost idealist. I guess Klatt was the middle ground.
Acho is the only one who's being real Kelly did create havock he created a dam mess Leave then fine but do it after the games been played What you don't think he can't get recruits in March?? No it's stupid not to think it. It's BS Kelly knew 2 weeks ago .. So it's BS Kelky can't win the big games LSU gonna find out quick lmao Cant wait
@@ozzymack574 😅😅 now you sound like the bitter one!! 😅😅 but what you gonna find out is you can win with better talent genius, which he will have at lsu!!
I think it should be against the rules to take all the best players from a team and gut the whole thing. It's wrong.
So basically players can’t act in they best interest now and should go where the school allows, hmmm
That wasnt the Mike Tomlin quote, that Kelly was referring to. he was referring to the USC Alums with blank checks comment
2:55 I love Acho and Wiley, Klatt nailed this one.
Over 100 million dollars? Generational wealth? Yeah, that’s enough to get the job done
As a lifelong Domer I am beyond happy Brian Kelly is gone
They make it sound like Notre dame was barely making it, it was terrible couching that caused him to lose those playoff games… he gets out couched a lot and I’m actually looking forward to LSU figuring that out…
We've won championships with Les Miles and Ed Orgeron... it's been shown that even average or below average coaches can win here.
10:56 Klatt's and Acho's reaction 😂😂
This is the best show
Exactly, " and do what"....it's about winning!!
I love Acho. Speaks the truth.
Kelly did this before to Cincinnati, leaving before the bowl game, we shouldn't be surprised he did it again.
How embarrassing for LSU to way over pay only to fire in 4 years just like they always do.
I believe Kelly has a good buyout clause in his contract. Good move on his part.
the timing is the only issue, its like he abandoned his players and staff
But what else is he supposed to do? Due to the early signing period he can NEVER leave ND unless he leaves at this point in the season or takes a year off, there are no jobs that will be open in January, so he either stays at ND or leaves, blame the early signing day for that.
Not lie to his players.
Just because you works, together doesn't always mean you can click together. And by the way, everyone isn't for sale. what profits a man to gain the world and lose his soul ( mind, intellect, character, peace, respect) . Money can't by anything but temporary
Gifts and life style. Money can by a house, but it takes more than money to make it a home.
Joel Klatt looks like your typical financial advisor at some Wall Street firm like Goldman Sachs or something 😅🤣
Lol, he looks like a substitute teacher...
Love the diversity of this show
There’s not a chance he left specifically for money. He took less pay then Riley and got almost same money Tucker did at MSU after 1 good season…he didn’t give ND a chance to even counter and get a huge raise…bc he saw LSU and knew he wanted it. He left specifically to establish a legacy as a National Champion.
Dude isn't exactly in his 20s. He wants to make moves now!
so no gripe about how Lincoln left after saying he was staying...i think the media just cant fathom someone left their sacred ND for LSU...and OU is being gutted by the other coaches decision
Riley said he isn't going to LSU. Technically never said that he wouldn't leave to USC
Never seen anyone take as long as Klatt took to say "he wanted more money"
Colin Cowherd disagrees, he says BK did not make the jump for more money.
what do you mean, he said 9
9 figures.
How he got to Notre Dame is how he left them.
Notre Dame was a consistent top ten team before he got there?
News to me.
@@broaddusmarines No. Adrian is saying he got to ND by quiting Cincinnati during the season. He just did the same thing to ND when he left for LSU.
For the majority of the podcast I thought this was Colin. Klatt was dropping barz on em
They're all right, 🤣🤣. That money tho, sheesh!
Exactly, and the last 3 LSU coaches have won a National Championship.
I love klatts knowledge
Be should have lest finished the season (bowl) and since he didn’t that’s a slim move.
A&M to LSU is not a lateral move. 😂
Until Saban retires, it absolutely is. The only difference between A&M and LSU right now is the pressure on the coach.
So, if Luke Fickell just walked away from Cincinnati in an undefeated season for another team tomorrow, these guys are are ok? Cincy should be ok? If Kirby Smart just went to the NFL right now?…please.
NFL won’t let that happen until they current season is completely over
Joel Klatt + SFY?
Yes please!!!
I love Joel Klatt
Great philosophy!
The show actually has great dialogue
Notre Dame fan, Good bye, Thanks for getting the program back on course. Now let's go get that Coach to get next, let Kelly take his own heat with him.
Back on course to getting squashed by SC every year. Ready for it lol
Now that Riley is at USC, Notre Dame will get an L every year, lol! I hate that because I don't care much for USC.
Klatt is right. And for the people blaming the coaches for leaving should blame the schools more. USC fired Helton a few games into the season. But I just believe people are salty due to the money.
They should make contracts with coaches that prevent them from talking to other schools during the season. Unless they're fired from the position.
Acho is right.
Not everyone is for sale. This guy is clueless. But I do like how these guys don’t interrupt each other.
All coaches do that Sabin did that to LSU years ago but nobody brings that up.
Life is cruel. Once you graduate high school you will understand.
