Whoever that one dude was that commented about the cracked block was probably referring to the 1.8L those early 8th’s with a 1.8 were known for a casting defect behind the catalytic converter. A recall was issued for those. There is a difference in transmissions from 06-08 to newer 8th gen’s I think 3rd gear I can’t remember. Not hating just trying to inform you if you weren’t aware👍🏽. Check if the recall for the clear coat failure still applies to your vin also👍🏽.
Yeah 2006-2008 (some 2009) R18's (basic Civic's) suffered from cracked blocks, but even then it's still extremely rare relatively speaking tbh. 2010-2011 Civic's are fuckin bulletproof (mine is 2010 EX-L w/ 205k mi, it's got me through 3 years of college so far lol). I believe if you upgrade the CMC on the Si's then it should fix the 2-3rd gear grinding. It's always a good first thing to do, because a lot of the times it can either prevent the synchro issues or it can just be mistaken for poor synchro's. It's pretty cloudy, but CMC swaps or upgrades usually fix it, along with new transmission fluid. Z3 cracking block problems are rare af and sound like the result of bad mods based on what I'm seeing and hearing. It's a Civic don't let the internet blow everything out of proportion (@ Cameron Hill) lol.
I don’t see how that warrants being blocked too. Cameron seems like he can be a little overly sensitive. I understand spending thousands on a car and not wanting to hear anything that could potentially be wrong with the type or model of car, but maybe the guy typing that could help him and others in the long run.
"Cracking vtec" stock at 5800 is nice, but once you get tuned it's smoothed out. Like it's split in half - first one around 4400 - second one around idk, 6500 7k+ depends what the tuner sets it at. It's still awesome bc you get 2, but they're subdued compared to stock.
93 makes a huge difference most people put 87 in it and I wanna cringe but overall a very fun reliable car I got a 2011 fa5 bone stock currently has 214k and runs fantastic still just hate how the paint fades I don’t drive aggressively at all I normally baby it but I’ll hit vtec every once in a while it feels good !!!! That sound will never get old
Here in Cali, it's required 91 for 8th generation, and there yes, must be 93 octane. Vtec is way louder when am intake is installed. Can't wait for 8th gen future content. I'm glad you made it home safely my dude.

They fixed most, if not all the issues. Watch out for that infamous paint fade, too. Black is the worst. Previous owners must have kept it in his garage, or got it repainted. I bought my ‘07 Si black sedan new on Maui, and when I moved back, sent it by boat to LA then drove it back to Chicago with my Dad. One of my most favorite things I’ve done and this makes me really miss it.

I was shocked it had enough room to fit a child seat behind me being as tall as I am at 6’3”. I regret not getting one then. I just flew from Oklahoma to Florida and bought an 8th gen. Took my 12 year old son with me and drove it home. Great memory we made together. Sucks you're on the road alone but pretty sweet car you picked up. Only thing I will say watching you getting on the highway hitting VTEC, I'm glad mine is K24 swapped and cammed lol.

Loving your videos, and congrats on your 8th Gen. When I first got my 8th Gen I put a ton of miles on mine too, the VTEC crossover is addicting. I only did a few things to mine, but the Hondata Reflash to get rid of the Rev Hang is highly recommended. Again congratulations on your car, I enjoy your content.
I love driving travel!! Some gas stations have only 91, 93, 91 and 93, or 94 octane. I think it is because of the Subaru WRX STI that it requires 93 or higher. For the Honda Si, it can use 91 or higher. If there have 91 octane, no 93, then I will use 91. Have fun with the 8th gen Si and building upgrades!!
My 8th gen, 14 years in, still feels home every time I sit in the seat and let the clutch out in spite of having bought other faster cars. I've kept it over, Focus ST Fcus RS, WRX' etc, The car feels lighter and more raw instrument than any of those. Bury me with my K20z3

You have found a Gem! After owning two 8thgens an fg2 and fa5 I gotta say great choice. I feel you need to try a short ram intake, yes its a hot air intake but man the vtec is extremely loud its so so addictive sound I think you would enjoy it alot. If you want best performance and tune skunk2 hybrid racing ktuned etc make good 3.5inch cold air intakes.

Been watching all your traveling videos , congrats on the new 8th gen, making miss my old SI i just sold , 173k on it and never missed a beat , i recently got a crv and its pretty boring but definitely looking forward to another SI in the future. These cars need nothing only simple maintenance and they run forever.
Been enjoying these road trip videos with the 8th gen Si Cam! Had an 07 that I never modded, but was still an absolute blast to drive! Be on the look out for potential oil burning issues with these, especially with very aggressive driving. Don't know if you already checked the oil or not. Mine would burn over a quart every 1k miles. Other potential issues would be the CMC which would cause grinding/lockout at high rpm shifts into second. Another one is vtc rattle at start up. However, yours is virtually a baby so it shouldn’t have any issues.
Man if you want fun and still have something reliable buy a supercharger kit, my 8th gen has been for the last 10 years on stock engine and no problem at all, even after a lot of track session! It’s perfect for the street also not too crazy!

8th generations honda si are one of the best generations of the Hondas built besides the 1999 2000 honda si 👍 👍. A lot of potential and will become a classic car one day soon worth a lot of money
I bought a c6 corvette at sea level and was extremely happy with the power it had. Then I drove it home to Denver at 6000 ft and it wasn’t nearly as fast as it was at sea level
No matter what anybody says thats a beautiful 8th gen, but god I cant wait until you get a a Short ram intake and wake it up! But all BS aside ive never heard of cracked blocks on the 8th gen but there is a serious transmission problem only w certain years of the 8th gen. The 2010 and 2011 have the really good transmissions! Not sure what year yours is but 06-09 had a notorious problems w the transmission going out around 70-80k miles! But hopefully you will be fine. I wanna see it lowered and a nice front lip or new front bumper!! 👍

Original owner of an 08 SI. Maybe it was in my head, but when I heard of the synchro issues early into my ownership, I had a few issues getting into 3rd. The more I drove the car, and stopped thinking about it, it just went away in my case. I'm lucky I didn't have to deal with that. The car is about to hit 140k miles, original clutch, and no burning oil. Looking into getting an FL5 or DE5, but already decided I'm keeping this car. Only issues during my ownership was a ripped cv boot I noticed the 2nd time I changed my oil. 3 trips to Honda before they replaced the cv joint instead of just the boot.
Here in Canada we got an Acura version called the CSX. It's only unique to the Canadian market...as it's essentially the 'JDM Civic' it even bears "FD" in it's VIN number. The base model got a unique K20Z2 instead of the R18, and the Type S version has the same Z3 as the Civic Si. Many folks use the body panels from this model to save money, rather than importing the actual FD2 Type R parts.
thats exactly what i did, drove from west va to cali in like 2 or 3 days. just drive as long as u can and take a nap. probably slept a total of like 5 hours
I know the car you bought has low miles 40K+ but you bought in Woodland Hills, CA and it's well over 100+ degrees in the Spring/Summer, the car is still 16 years old. I am about 35 miles North in Ventura County, CA. I would highly recommend you check out the full suspension (front and rear) for any rubber or bushings cracked such as rear upper arms, sway bar links, lower control arms, you can do it yourself it's not that hard. Happy to share with you the Honda Service Manual. Even though I change the oil every 5K myself it still burns oil. I noticed it more after 100K. So be sure to check the oil regularly. Oil is cheap, engines are not. Now you understand the love with the 8th Gen Si...I personally love the car as it was designed by Honda Engineers, my preference to leave stock. It will last for a LONG TIME if properly maintained. You can just feel the engagement/connection with the engine & transmission better than a newer / modern Honda 6MT in my opinion. I am closing in on 289K and it's my daily. The 22' Si is sometimes lonely in the garage with 12.5K. The 07' Si is my favorite Honda I have EVER owned. I bought new in April 2007 the Sedan version. The car is HIGHLY reliable. Original clutch went out around 233K, starter around 250K. Never any engine or transmission problems. The FA K20Z3 platform is SOLID. Original alternator still, no issues. The ONLY time I was left stranded was when the clutch went out. Enjoy the car and welcome to the club Cameron!
So the bad transmission comment is partially true. There were synchro issues with the earlier years. I’m not sure how it is in the USA but in Canada there was a recall for the trans. It would just grind occasionally into 3rd. Also living vicariously through you wanting another 8th gen.
10th gen seats are the most comfortable. When I had my 8th gen they were dealer special leather wrapped but i remember the bolsters being hella tight and after long drives it would get uncomfortable. I've never felt that with my 10th gen. I do like the 8th gen seats aesthetically more though and the materials they used it looks so much better than the 9th and 10th and 11th gen materials.

Homie honestly, not having the stamina to stop in Jackson was a blessing in disguise. Some incredibly high car theft/vandalism rates in that specific city, and you're in an 8th Gen... Quick maths. A girl I was dating at the time and I stopped in Jackson when we were moving out to Washington state, and just the 9 or 10 hours we stayed overnight someone attempted to break into my car (2018 Civic hatch) by jimmying the window. Thankfully they didn't break anything, and the damage they did to the outer seal of my window didn't cause any leaks, but it was a little too close for comfort and I'll basically never stop there on a cross-country trip again and I'll always recommend people against doing the same lmao
Hey Cameron, if you are interested, I have a JDM 1994 Civic Ferio RTX(its awd from factory). I had it imported last year, but I changed my mind about using it for its AWD parts. Super rare, super clean, and 100% legal. It wont be cheap but im going to try to sell privately before possible auction.
Not gonna lie. I watched from when you picked up the FA5 to this point and I cant stop smiling. Loved mine when I had it. A few little things to try out. I notice from watching your long drive that you never turned the traction control off. So every time you start the car, turn VSA off right away. It's the big button right under the left side air vent. You will know its off when the light pops on the dash. Its better on long drives and saves a bit on gas and the car should or will feel more alive. In order to launch the car, it needs to be turn off or the car will bogg on the launch. Last thing is, Id recommend getting hondata flashpro as the first mod. Install the stock equivalent map and go for a drive. With nothing done to the car, just that one map alone makes it's a completely different car. As you start to mod the car it just gets better from there because you will gradually feel the difference after each mod you do. Once mods are done stack the dyno tune on top of the flashpro map and you will be smiling for days to come. Other then that, safe travels friend

When you were in Flagstaff, you were at about 7,000 ft. above sea level
About 18-20% less power than at sea level. So yes, they will be missing some go.

I almost bought an 8th gen….I have a 10th gen….I love the split dash and the sounds!….there is good and bad between the gens….I still love then all!
I just flew from Oklahoma to Florida and bought an 8th gen. Took my 12 year old son with me and drove it home. Great memory we made together. Sucks you're on the road alone but pretty sweet car you picked up. Only thing I will say watching you getting on the highway hitting VTEC, I'm glad mine is K24 swapped and cammed lol.

When you tune it you can get VTEC to engage at a little over 4krpm and it's amazing.

The Type R has it on the exhaust cam to help spool up the turbo! It's engagement is also used different from the N/A cars as well

I only did a few things to mine, but the Hondata Reflash to get rid of the Rev Hang is highly recommended. Again congratulations on your car, I enjoy your content.

I love driving travel!! Some gas stations have only 91, 93, 91 and 93, or 94 octane. I think it is because of the Subaru WRX STI that it requires 93 or higher. For the Honda Si, it can use 91 or higher. If there have 91 octane, no 93, then I will use 91. Have fun with the 8th gen Si and building upgrades!!
My 8th gen, 14 years in, still feels home every time I sit in the seat and let the clutch out in spite of having bought other faster cars. I've kept it over, Focus ST Fcus RS, WRX' etc, The car feels lighter and more raw instrument than any of those. Bury me with my K20z3

You have found a Gem! After owning two 8thgens an fg2 and fa5 I gotta say great choice. I feel you need to try a short ram intake, yes its a hot air intake but man the vtec is extremely loud its so so addictive sound I think you would enjoy it alot. If you want best performance and tune skunk2 hybrid racing ktuned etc make good 3.5inch cold air intakes.
The FD2 is a special special car. You indeed should try to find genuine FD2 parts 🙌

Never heard 8th gen having crack blocks or bad transmissions. They are damn reliable machines.
Been watching all your traveling videos , congrats on the new 8th gen, making miss my old SI i just sold , 173k on it and never missed a beat , i recently got a crv and its pretty boring but definitely looking forward to another SI in the future. These cars need nothing only simple maintenance and they run forever.

Had an 07 that I never modded, but was still an absolute blast to drive!
Be on the look out for potential oil burning issues with these, especially with very aggressive driving. Don't know if you already checked the oil or not. Mine would burn over a quart every 1k miles.
Other potential issues would be the CMC which would cause grinding/lockout at high rpm shifts into second. Another one is vtc rattle at start up. However, yours is virtually a baby so it shouldn’t have any issues.
8th gen Si is the best civic imo. Especially when you do built k20/k24 mine had 276whp was insane
Man if you want fun and still have something reliable buy a supercharger kit, my 8th gen has been for the last 10 years on stock engine and no problem at all, even after a lot of track session! It’s perfect for the street also not too crazy!

I bought a c6 corvette at sea level and was extremely happy with the power it had. Then I drove it home to Denver at 6000 ft and it wasn’t nearly as fast as it was at sea level

Shell 93 every chance you get, proven to be better. I always try and keep it in the tank and if I can’t find that it’s BP or Sunoco.
No matter what anybody says thats a beautiful 8th gen, but god I cant wait until you get a a Short ram intake and wake it up! But all BS aside ive never heard of cracked blocks on the 8th gen but there is a serious transmission problem only w certain years of the 8th gen. The 2010 and 2011 have the really good transmissions! Not sure what year yours is but 06-09 had a notorious problems w the transmission going out around 70-80k miles! But hopefully you will be fine. I wanna see it lowered and a nice front lip or new front bumper!! 👍
If the time comes where the transmission is giving me problems, I’ll just have it rebuilt

Original owner of an 08 SI. Maybe it was in my head, but when I heard of the synchro issues early into my ownership, I had a few issues getting into 3rd. The more I drove the car, and stopped thinking about it, it just went away in my case. I'm lucky I didn't have to deal with that. The car is about to hit 140k miles, original clutch, and no burning oil. Looking into getting an FL5 or DE5, but already decided I'm keeping this car. Only issues during my ownership was a ripped cv boot I noticed the 2nd time I changed my oil. 3 trips to Honda before they replaced the cv joint instead of just the boot.
u now have true vtec with the 8th gen ihave the 9th gen miss my 8th gen for the vtec but love the torqe from the 9th gen
Here in Canada we got an Acura version called the CSX.
It's only unique to the Canadian market...as it's essentially the 'JDM Civic' it even bears "FD" in it's VIN number. The base model got a unique K20Z2 instead of the R18, and the Type S version has the same Z3 as the Civic Si. Many folks use the body panels from this model to save money, rather than importing the actual FD2 Type R parts.
thats exactly what i did, drove from west va to cali in like 2 or 3 days. just drive as long as u can and take a nap. probably slept a total of like 5 hours

I know the car you bought has low miles 40K+ but you bought in Woodland Hills, CA and it's well over 100+ degrees in the Spring/Summer, the car is still 16 years old. I am about 35 miles North in Ventura County, CA. I would highly recommend you check out the full suspension (front and rear) for any rubber or bushings cracked such as rear upper arms, sway bar links, lower control arms, you can do it yourself it's not that hard. Happy to share with you the Honda Service Manual. Even though I change the oil every 5K myself it still burns oil. I noticed it more after 100K. So be sure to check the oil regularly. Oil is cheap, engines are not. Now you understand the love with the 8th Gen Si...I personally love the car as it was designed by Honda Engineers, my preference to leave stock. It will last for a LONG TIME if properly maintained. You can just feel the engagement/connection with the engine & transmission better than a newer / modern Honda 6MT in my opinion. I am closing in on 289K and it's my daily. The 22' Si is sometimes lonely in the garage with 12.5K. The 07' Si is my favorite Honda I have EVER owned. I bought new in April 2007 the Sedan version. The car is HIGHLY reliable. Original clutch went out around 233K, starter around 250K. Never any engine or transmission problems. The FA K20Z3 platform is SOLID. Original alternator still, no issues. The ONLY time I was left stranded was when the clutch went out. Enjoy the car and welcome to the club Cameron!

So the bad transmission comment is partially true. There were synchro issues with the earlier years. I’m not sure how it is in the USA but in Canada there was a recall for the trans. It would just grind occasionally into 3rd.

10th gen seats are the most comfortable. When I had my 8th gen they were dealer special leather wrapped but i remember the bolsters being hella tight and after long drives it would get uncomfortable. I've never felt that with my 10th gen. I do like the 8th gen seats aesthetically more though and the materials they used it looks so much better than the 9th and 10th and 11th gen materials.

@@Camhill182 that’s crazy. I’ve been out of the Honda scene for so long. We used to just use Honda-tech for everything. Now a lot of people on fb groups. But if you have to get Jdm part. Icb motorsports is probably your best bet for brand new oem parts.

It's not that the trans are bad. You need to swap in an EM1 clutch mater cylinder and remove the restrictor frome the slave cylinder.

A girl I was dating at the time and I stopped in Jackson when we were moving out to Washington state, and just the 9 or 10 hours we stayed overnight someone attempted to break into my car (2018 Civic hatch) by jimmying the window. Thankfully they didn't break anything, and the damage they did to the outer seal of my window didn't cause any leaks, but it was a little too close for comfort and I'll basically never stop there on a cross-country trip again and I'll always recommend people against doing the same lmao

Hey Cameron, if you are interested, I have a JDM 1994 Civic Ferio RTX(its awd from factory). I had it imported last year, but I changed my mind about using it for its AWD parts. Super rare, super clean, and 100% legal. It wont be cheap but im going to try to sell privately before possible auction.
Not gonna lie. I watched from when you picked up the FA5 to this point and I cant stop smiling. Loved mine when I had it. A few little things to try out. I notice from watching your long drive that you never turned the traction control off. So every time you start the car, turn VSA off right away. It's the big button right under the left side air vent. You will know its off when the light pops on the dash. Its better on long drives and saves a bit on gas and the car should or will feel more alive. In order to launch the car, it needs to be turn off or the car will bogg on the launch. Last thing is, Id recommend getting hondata flashpro as the first mod. Install the stock equivalent map and go for a drive. With nothing done to the car, just that one map alone makes it's a completely different car. As you start to mod the car it just gets better from there because you will gradually feel the difference after each mod you do. Once mods are done stack the dyno tune on top of the flashpro map and you will be smiling for days to come. Other then that, safe travels friend
