Debra Winger’s Sexual Tension With Co-Star John Travolta | WWHL
Hearing the caller's genuine excitement to talk to Debra but then watching Debra's non-verbals and gross attitude is why people always say that you should never meet your heroes...they will do nothing but disappoint you and will fail to meet your expectations. Debra could've been a little more gracious to the caller.
What did she say and what did she really do that was real annoying
Agree. Thought the same exact thing.
She was counting like 30 years later and you still love it I don't think she was being smart even though it does look like she was
Probably heard the same question a zillion times and was bored.
Yep, comes on a interview show and actually shows how pompous they can be. Very disappointing.
OMG - can't believe how rude she is. Disgusting how she treats someone giving her respect...
The queen leave it alone
She's awful in every interview.
She's lucky people remember her at all. So rude!
I heard that she's full of herself and for what reason I don't know.
@@chris2302 Narcissist syndrome, runs rampant with actors, actresses, politicians. Only actor
that I can think of , that didn't have it was Robert Mitchum , and I'm sure there are a few others.
Just mho, Cheers , peasants and commoners. 😋
Very disappointing how rude she was to the caller who was a fan and probably was so nervous to call in and speak to Winger and then mocked and treated so rudely!
Oh ... Toughen the F Up!
@@penknight8532 it was rude
agree
A lot of people referred to Winger as “difficult”. Based on this performance here I say they’re wrong. She’s an assh@le.
I agree 100% and they claim that she is very rude in person And full of herself.
From what I’ve read, Debra Winger doesn’t work anymore because she has a horrible rep for being difficult and clashing w/ co-stars. I think she displayed that here in the way she treated a fan.
Thats why it was easy for her to do this movie "Urban Cowboy" later in the relationship with John Travolta she got nasty (so to speak) in the parts
The movie industry is all male. They have a good time giving people a hard time pranks and other rude dude things. The eighty’s really cra cray
She's a manhater and a legend in her own mind.
I'm shocked, I never thought she would be a arrogant and rude person.
That's all I've ever seen her be.
She is so rude and condescending to everyone!!!
She's just mad because the person she had negotiated her deals left all the money on the table. Now she's probably got 100K in the bank and is resentful.
That's what happens when you age in hollywood and have an inflated sense of self.
@@harpoon_bakery162 That's proof that 99% of everything boils down to $$$$$. LOL
Does she know it’s normal for people to ask questions during an interview.
I think she's just reacting b/c it took six or seven statements for the caller to get to the question, but yeah, a bit rude.
It’s a dumb question
The woman on the phone was just 5 seconds into speaking when the mockery started. Feel bad for her having to watch that.
Never had much of an opinion about Debra Winger before seeing this clip but now I really don't like her! Doesn't she realize she's kind of a has-been of the same ilk as Kelly McGillis and Kathleen Turner? Get over yourself Debra and be grateful the caller cared enough to phone in a question for you!
It’s a shame that she treats her fans like they are idiots. Perhaps she’s a narcissist. Definitely rude and ungrateful to her fans.
She certainly comes off that way sometimes. And yet: I’ll never forget the time I was working at a little shop in the west 70s in the early 90s called the Pita Factory on Broadway, she came in with her son and ordered a tuna on pita. Trying to be the jaded New Yorker that I am, but a fan of her movies, I kept my cool but mentioned that her 2 above-mentioned movies were a source of joy in our family. She was gracious and open and warm during that brief interaction. I wonder now if she made fun of me as soon as she walked out, but she was very pleasant that one time. Yet I keep seeing this nasty side in public interviews. I’m conflicted although I shouldn’t be. And FWIW, my uncle who has since passed, worked on the production side of officer and a gentleman and he always said there was definitely sexual tension between her and Gere and they had some sort of thing and then fought and it ended badly so ...yeah that bitterness is definitely exes-having-to-work-together tension ...
@@ns2110theonly I think she is a fairly normal person off-camera, just extremely defensive in public and in her job. She is apparently a great, devoted mother and her sons are very normal
Anisa Lesalk Yes I agree on that and as I said I witnessed her being a great mom and totally normal in the most dingy, dive pita shop that you can ever imagine. I’ve always loved her I’m just conflicted when I see these interviews.... as she was a neighbor I also glimpsed her walking her son to school on 79th St. in the 90s. There were a lot of celebrities in the neighborhood and most of them much less famous than she....had nannies...and you could see them waving off the nannies in the morning. She never had a nanny not once and was always holding that boys hand so tight crossing the street in the AM. I was a neighbor back when she only had one child.... before she met her second husband, when she was a single mom....
That's why shes broke
Yeah ... maybe. Hmmmm
She was so sweet and adorable as Sissy Davis. I fall in love with her every time I watch Urban Cowboy. But gosh she’s pretty bitter in “real life”. Just shows that actors aren’t their characters and visa versa.
And that's why it's called pretending AKA acting . LOL. Cheers.
Debra Winger needs to take a lesson from Dolly Parton on how to appreciate fans. But it's WAY to late for that now.
Peggy Gibbons
Yes, I can't believe what I just saw, Deborah's behavior was appalling.
Looking at her watch and her hand movements, what was that.
Dolly is a great example, gracious, thankful and appreciative. 💕
Dolly comes across warm & loving.
@@christineadams1284 You're right and I saw an interview with Shirley McClain, after Terms Of Endearment & she said Debra treated her awful! Shirley McClain is a classic & she is still in the public eye but Debra IS NOT, so that says a lot!
@@christineadams1284 yes agree like she was very arrogant and 😠 annoyed
That’s a good observation, Peggy. Dolly is a gem of a person. Heck, we could all take a lesson from Dolly Parton on how to treat others!
Dolly Parton brings a such example of gracious, thankful and appreciative. She comes across warm and loving. Better than anyone else.
when you like the make believe character better than the actual person playing it.
Can you see John Travolta acting like her. ? NEVER. He is a true gentleman. Funny how they’re so different !
how do you know?
HORRIBLE the way she responds to the woman who calls in.
Clipstone Films did you see the way she was looking at her watch when she was talking?
@@kiranolan7104 Yes, I did. SO unpleasant. I can't stand to watch it again.
Clipstone Films I feel so bad for her because she's probably a huge fan. I'm pretty sure they teach you after you become famous you need to be nice to your fans! Amanda was quite rude also.
Yeah, I didn't even understand what she was doing . . . she was looking at her watch . . . why??? And what the hell was she mouthing to Andy while the lady was asking the question. I don't get it.
Yeah I agree that's really the reason I can't stand celebrities - she's just a person that was given a talent to act - she was not a great actress - she was in good movies but nothing that really showed that her acting skills were at the top.
LOVE HER MORE! NO THANK YOU! How hard is it to just be nice? Why did she come on the show. Nasty behavior on Debra’s part.
I always thought that the "Daddy does oil and all that implies" actress on "Urban Cowboy" was, and probably still is "hotter-looking" than Debra Winger.
Her nemisis, Pam ( Madolyn Smith ) was pretty hot. Wonder how Debbie got on with her ? Shoulda
been interesting. 😋
Hmm Debra seems to be a bit of a pill. The caller praises her and she couldn’t be more bored simulating a watch. She was looking at her pretend watch because she couldn’t understand why someone loved her in a film she did so long ago rather than something in the latter years. She’s only remembered for those early 80’s films. Debra Winger comes off in these interviews like a narcissus. She has a low opinion of everyone but herself. That’s a narcissus. She’s always bashing her costars and everyone her. It’s strange. Don’t know how anyone can stand her. It’s unfortunate because she could’ve been a Meryl Streep, but Hollywood can’t stand her so they stopped casting her.
Deborah seems rude to her fan on the phone. If I were in her shoes I wouldnt do that to someone who had such admiration. Really rude of her!
It appears Debbie seems to forget she became rich and famous because of her role in Urban Cowboy. So she ridicules the caller for gushing over her in the movie.
Now I know why she was blacklisted from Hollywood for a very long time she is so rude
There is just no excuse at all for the way she acted with that lady calling in. Have some gratitude for the people that put you where you are.
You can like someone's work but not like them. This is a perfect example. Money and fame tends to do that. It's a shame, but it's reality. I've been around money more than fame most of my days and unfortunately, the only time they get humble is when it's far too late. The more I know about people...the less I like.
That's why puppies and kitties are so popular with humans. LOL.
I always heard Winger was impossible to work with and after this interview, I can see why. She's got a few issues. Amanda Peet is such a lovely person. What a contrast.
Debra Winger is a terrific actor.
Should see her in Godzilla, she was stellar. Academy award stuff. No kidding.
You are an actor Ms Winger not the one who found the cure for cancer...omg stop being so full of yourself
I loved, loved, loved her, HOWEVER- SHES A HARD INTERVIEW, and RUDE TO HER FANS...Egotistical, and I'm Not sure if I'm one of them anymore 😬
Her smile is ETERNAL.
Why is she so rude?
Narcissistic personality disorder
Right? Arguably Urban Cowboy is her most popular role/film and that woman who called in was so excited to ask her a question you could tell it in her voice and Winger reacted so disrespectfully. It really disappoints me to see her be like that to a fan.
She is speaking to a gentile.

Rude is Rude, whether it's a man or woman.
I'm Always Right then she shouldn’t go on a show that’s light hearted and “silly”.
Wow I love her acting everything she's been in is great. but she is very full of herself.. which is her right, but why go to interviews if you hate being asked questions ?
Debra was simply counting how many years ago that movie was. And the caller couldn't see her anyway b/c I don't think the show was live when she called in.
I am so disappointed!!! I am such a fan of a lot of her movies and I am so sad at how rude she was!
Well, to be honest, the call screener is supposed to determine the topics. If she keeps getting asked the same question during a short spot on a show, it's probably more her annoyance with the screener and show than the callers. But, I have to agree, she's not very gracious. She's direct, blunt. LOL.
JC Roth I saw the whole show and she was rude and short, why go in this show if she was going to be so closed. You should know what to expect with Andy Cohan .
She's always like this.
Typical Hollwood freaks
@@jcroth2644 so that is grounds for her to behave so rudely? She's STILL an adult at the end of the day. She should be accountable for her own actions. I've seen plenty of celebrity guests being asked the same questions by callers and i never saw any of them behave as poorly as Debra.
I wish she would’ve relayed more about working with John Travolta.
I still remember like it was yesterday The movie A Gentleman and An Officer was so big in the 80's throughout the 90's and even a cult classic now here in the Philippines the fact that it was shot i don't know if entirely but here in the Philippines.
What screwed her up & made her so miserable. The beginning was so fucking rude. Did she not realise shes on tv?! Amanda is an enabler to
Debra Winger is rude and has no class, she needs a lesson in how to treat people. That was absolutely mean of her to be so cruel
I’d rather have a hemorrhoidectomy than have to had sat through this show live.
As a huge fan of Debra mainly because she resembles my late wife but was disappointed at her actions with that caller.
I always thought Debra was lovely and charismatic in her movies, i realize she has quite the acting chops when seeing how different she is in real life, she's a great actress but it's not necessarily a redeeming quality when it comes to just being a human. Admiration from the public is how actors have successful careers, you don't have to jump in fake excitement about it, but be grateful when people acknowledge your work, you can keep it real without being rude, it's called having some class.
Why is Amanda Peet laughing when Winger is being incredibly rude to that caller? There’s obviously a lot of truth to the nonsense around Hollywood that Winger clearly doesn’t have time for and how the industry treated her for daring to be “difficult” but this is just being unpleasant to a fan for no reason?
She says here that she never said anything bad about Richard Here and that's not true. I've watched her give a interview when she said she couldn't stand him and that it made her physically sick when he touched her. The love scene that shows her crying sure said she was actually crying because she had to be that close to him. Even in her bio she says he was a brick wall costar. I can see him being a little bit of a jerk when he was younger. Even Julia Roberts has said she had to go to his home and beg him to do pretty woman.
Julia Robert has continuously praised Richard Gere since she made Pretty Woman. He was constantly there for her during the shoot.
Julia met with him at his office. She didn't beg. She was cute about it. He was on the phone, and she asked on a sticky note handed to him if he'd do the movie. They've been nothing but kind to each other. Debra on the other hand, is a piece of work.
At least she shows the truth side of her personality, her reaction towards the caller says enough, imagine when no cameras…yikes.
I usually like her direct nature, but her body language while the caller was speaking really obnoxious. She appreciated your work. Be gracious and say thank you.
I agree. A gracious, grateful attitude goes a long way.
She doesn't have or know the manners in how to be gracious and say, "Thank you."
I cannot handle the way she was to the caller...very rude
Both Andy and Amanda said later their heads were spinning during the entire interview, for they were trying to keep the train wreck, shit-show from getting worse than what Winger was making it.
Well done Debra. Says it like it is. ❤❤
She's so rude to that caller. I love her candor, but she's needs to respect the questions that one would expect during interviews.
Wingers attitude sucks however I wish Andy, after feeling her vibe, wouldn't have continued with the personal questions.
Why did Winger act like that? I just rewatched the film since the 1st time in 1980 when I was 13. I never knew who Sissy was and was excited to Google her and this is what I get? Seeing that clip genuinely made me sad and puke a little in my mouth.
This should be titled Debra being rude to a fan on WWHL
I thought the question was about her attraction to Travoltra ...she turn it into the whole 3 mins about Gere...duh
In fairness, Andy turned it around to Gere.
I read she fell off a truck at 18 and had a brain injury and blind for almost a whole year; maybe that fall affected how she behaves?
Omg how rude!!
Maybe she needs to do Thank god it’s Friday part 2.
Stick with the 1978 Oscar winning cult classic, would you?
Amanda Peet looks beautiful 💚
She’s a notorious see-you-next-Tuesday. This kind of thing is very much in character for her.

What a rude, bitter person. So sad.
What is her problem? Why would she act that way towards a fan?
Wasn't even a good response for her caller, she went left field talking about some other actor to leave the caller hanging not being given any real information or details on Urban Cowboy and her time filming... not cool
After seeing her in a D film. She struck me as VERY ODD. It's no surprise to her these comments about her yrs later.
She has aged very well and still young at heart. very happy for her.

Being gracious and humble would help her. I'm very disappointed that I wasted time watching her movies and liking her. She's bad people that she so bluntly mentions. Maybe it was Harvey Weinstein but what has that got to do with Gere, A real gentleman.
Sad how rude she is. Oh well.
worst part was when she insulted andy when he showed a funny clip of himself on the news
can you tell me where in the clip is that located and thanks a ton in advance!!!!
I wonder what makes this girl so angry at the world
After watching the video, I get why most everyone in here responded the way they did. However, consider this. Not everyone handles fame and fortune very well. For some, it's a 24/7 job just trying to have some semblance of a life. Between the constant interviews, the media attention and just having many outsiders hounding you, it can be extremely difficult.
Obviously, her attitude, regarding the caller, was in poor taste, but she has had to endure such calls since she so famously starred in that movie Urban Cowboy. No excuses of course, but unless you know exactly what fame does to you, you cannot possibly understand why these famous people do the things they do. For us outsiders, they seem quirky. Even crazy, but that is how some of these people act. No pun intended.
I heard differently on the subject of her being hard to work with and all. In that film, many of her co stars worked well with her and vice versa. I know Scott Glenn did. His scenes with her required allot of physicality. Which required both to spend some time together. Travolta through the years has said nice things about his co star. Point is, before one judges another, put yourself in their shoes ( or cowboy boots ) and see how you might react when confronted with these questions for decades on in.
As for me. I don't excuse poor or bad behavior, but I do try and put more thought into why people, especially famous people, act the way they do.🎬🎥📢
JR
JR Ewing I like this. Thoughtful, nuanced. Benefit of the doubt, trying to see it from her perspective. Agree wholeheartedly on all, especially points A & B.
She didn’t have to agree to the interview.
Boo freakin hoo...you should answer years of those questions with gratitude and humility to the people who made you famous, especially when they're excited to speak to you.
If you can't handle fame, don't go into show business.
I love you JR Ewing :)
It sounds like you are actually making excuses for her, regardless of you saying “no excuses.”
Shirley MacLaine was right about Debra winger being rude.
Shirley MacLaine is a worse person than Debra. At least Debra is a good mother, Shirley abandoned and neglected her daughter completely
cherylb2008 REALLY now? Let’s get both Shirley & Deb’s kids in a room & ask them who’s rude. I’ll take the devoted mom over the abandoner whose only child can’t stand her. To steal from SNL, B*^ PLEEEZ.

Who is the other woman who is laughing along with this as if it is funny. She doesn't seem to have much respect for people either.
Okay I am just going to go against popular culture here..Urban Cowboy is a better film than An Officer And A Gentleman and the question was about Urban Cowboy yet the host turned it directly to Officer And A Gentleman. Let her answer the question for Gods sake..
Gosh - what happened to her on An Officer and A Gentleman? Has she ever said?
Debra Winger has always had trouble getting along with her co- stars, directors, etc. That’s probably why her career was so short lived.
debbiedoodiedandi my uncle who worked with them both on that film said otherwise (upthread if interested) ...JS
Since 1975, that's probably why her career was so short-lived. Now she lives in Upstate New York with her second husband, actor
Arliss Howard since 1994. Together, they have a great pair of wonderful kids as well as adopted ones. They're all having an
very peaceful community after a string of hits and flops.
These comments are hilarious. Everyone going off on Miss Winger. Ya'll it's just a tacky interview show. And Debra has given all of us years of sublime film performances. Lighten up!
Then after all this years, she should know better.
Yeah, I liked her alot before seeing this. Over her now. Rude and conceited. Very disappointed. Sad
Rude, bad mannered response to caller.
The worse two guest, ever!
Amanda wasn’t being rude!! You could tell she was very uncomfortable, but just trying to make it less uncomfortable by laughing lol.
Looking at her watch and making faces as a caller asked her a question ,how tacky.
Debra Winger has NEVER known what good manners were! She tried to lie her way out of talking badly about Richard Gere. Well, I was 30 years old when “An Officer and a Gentleman” was being made, and she was always talking nasty about working with him. She did the same thing about Shirley MacLaine while they were making “Terms of Endearment”.
Now I am going to watch Deborah on Letterman November 30, 1990 and see if she can redeem herself.
She doesn’t give a f… and I adore that. She ain’t here to kiss a..
women can be obnoxious too. its a job, she doesnt have to be likeable to be a good actor.
When you are rude to your fans, your career is not going to last long!
Yup. I’d rather watch a talented, real, unplastic but not necessarily charming actor, than a gracious but untalented actress with artificially inflated lips that make her look like she’s domestically abused. But that’s just me😂

She is quite disrespectful to the woman caller. Most likely jealous of the caller's beautiful voice.
Whenever I hear Debra Winger’s voice she sounds so friendly and somehow sounds like she sounds like someone you used to know? I just want to trust everything she says and go along with everything she does just because of her voice and her physical appearance matches her voice too
