GREAT REACTION! Welcome to a new world of music with Jacob. This was 11 years ago when he was 19!!!! You must see what he is doing now. Masterful, touching, thought evoking, and heartfelt all of it. Enjoy the ride!
I am SO glad you are reacting to Jacob Collier! He is a musical genius beyond comprehension. He is considered the "Mozart of Gen Z." This video went viral around a decade ago, he did bunch more, with him doing all the arrangements, singing all vocal parts, playing all instruments AND doing all the video production. He has am advance understanding of musical harmony and reharmony that allows him to make us feel whatever emotion he wants at any given moment. I am a 55 year old man, have been playing guitar all my life, played in bands when I was younger, studied music in college, etc - I just discovered Jacob by accident about 6 months ago, and with NO hyperbole, I can say it changed my life. PLEASE continue to react to his videos. And watch his many videos where he speaks about music...and life. He's a super-genius with such emotional intelligence, and has a beautiful soul. Inspirational to say the least. I'll post some links to other videos I think you should react to. By the way, once I discovered him earlier this year, I immediately seeked out if he was touring, and coincidentally he would be in my town of Philadelphia 2 weeks later, so I went to see him. It was spectacular, so much so that I bought more tickets to see him in Denver a month later, and there I bought "meet and greet" add-on. It was there where I got to meet him and see his show in the first row. Best show I ever saw in my life, hands down. Below is a link where he was doing a Q&A with us, and you hear me ask a question (my son took the video) and then he demonstrates his cool harmonizer instrument, and then goes on to answer a question from a youngster in such an inspirational way: ua-cam.com/video/0gniC5v93Ts/v-deo.htmlsi=PEllaAm-PboexooG
Buy a seat belt, and then prepare yourself to listen to Moon River or All Night Long. The rabbit hole is endless and beautiful. You are not the first to be rendered speechless - this is a common problem with listening to him. Also listen to some of his interviews - he is the kindest, most gentle and humble musician I have ever witnessed. In short, he is simply a gift to all that discover him. He makes me happy, snd his art makes the world a better place. Nice reaction - keep going!!
When Jacob first uploaded his cover of 'Don't You Worry Bout A Thing" to UA-cam, it quickly came to the attention of legendary music producer Quincy Jones...and he was blown away and immediately told his people to drop whatever they were doing and to get in touch with Jacob. Quincy had never heard anything like it before. He has since become friends with Jacob and Quincy has said, "Never in my life have I seen a talent like this." Here is a clip from a documentary feature on Jacob (I recommend watching the whole documentary): ua-cam.com/video/ERvd5QjupSU/v-deo.htmlsi=lzRel9GaPwdye5XQ&t=710 Maybe check out his covers of "Moon River" and then "All Night Long" for your next steps on the Jacob discovery journey. Have fun!!
It so fun to watch people who really understand music listen to Jacob for the first time. The more you know, the more you appreciate his genius! 🎼Subscribed.
The beginning of the rabbit-hole...❤ I first met him in 2013 at a Take 6 concert in London. See my 25th anniversary film of Take 6 and you'll see him with me James Rose and Sam Robson, those three being superlative vocal arrangers and performers❤ My wife and i got him backstage to see Take 6 ahead of the queue... and then, later that year he released this!🔥🔥🔥🔥 So humble... a few years went by and we met at another concert and he remembered me by name!!!! An incredible young man❤
As someone who has been a fan since the days when this video was almost new, it still completely blows my mind that there are people in 2024 who are just now newly discovering Jacob! I am so jealous of you! You have almost a DECADE of amazing art to discover. Let me tell you a few things about this amazing man. First of all, he has perfect pitch accurate to 100th's of a semi-tone, which is how he can put this all together one track at a time. I would like to highly recommend for your enjoyment, an 8 and a half minute video of him and Tori Kelly recording her vocal tracks for his recent cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water. Look for their names and "bridge" and check out the "8 minute version" video. This is, to me, the quintessential display of his composition, arranging, and vocal direction brilliance. Even after having watched it literally hundreds of times, it still gives me chills every time. He produces his songs in Logic Pro, and at one point, Apple had to release a new version with a higher track limit because he was having to produce in multiple separate session files and mix them down and then mix them together to get around the track limit. These tunes from back in these early days are probably around 200-300 individual tracks, but his more modern pieces are often well in excess of 500 600 700 tracks or more. Your use of the lovely word "geniusness" is perfect, because he certainly is, on a level that few can compare with, now or historically both, but in addition to that, he is also just an absolutely wonderful human being, always uplifting everyone around him both musically and spiritually! I envy you the deep dive that you have ahead of you. He's prolific. It will take you MONTHS to catch up with everything he has produced in the last almost a decade. I hope you enjoy that experience as much as I've enjoyed living with his incredible art over all those years!
Great reaction 🙂 Jacob is a musical genius tbh. SO, so good. This is a VERY old clip, I can see it in his face; he looks very different now. Feel absolutely free to check out a recent video he did together with Aurora as well, for Greenpeace. I won't drop a link, but paste this : Jacob Collier & AURORA - A Rock Somewhere X The Seed (Greenpeace) Take care ! Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
Oh, Jacob, finally! He's phenomenal... loved this one, will keep the others for the evening, have to get out to the garden and just watched AJ with the very same song and version on another channel... Peace and love!
@@poolhallshark Nope... Bad Valentine piano diaries, had watched another reaction to that one... Don't You Worry... is part of Katrina Velarde's great Latin Medley...but I'm not aware AJ has sung it...
Jacob works incredibly quickly. He has some Logic breakdown sessions where you can see his thought processes. He has some amazing collabs with artists from all over the world, including recently with Tori Kelly, John Legend, Stormzy, Aurora. His music crosses every genre from Jazz to Rock, world music, choral pieces (World o world) and so much more. Favourites are ‘All night long’, ‘Moon River,’ Mahogany Sessions version of ‘Little Blue’, ‘Bridge over troubled water’. Also checkout the video of Jacob & Tori Kelly in her studio with him telling her what to sing for Bridge over Troubled Water. Also check out his audience choir videos. Plus the Mozart of Gen Z interview.
Yes, all by himself including the video editing from his room in his family home in London. This was early on, I think still in his teens. It also blew away Quincy Jones and Herbie Hancock when they first saw it. Quincy said he'd never seen such talent and now Quincy is his manager. Tech note: He Used Logic X for the audio and Final Cut for the video. He regularly does videos showing how he uses Logic. Nerd note: If you understand some music theory and about microtones and tonal centers and tuning systems it's even more impressive. It helps to have perfect pitch to have such precision . His polyrythm skills are just as extraordinary. He teaches music theory too. This didn't win a Grammy but 6 other songs did including Moon River (for amount of work(and the Flintstones. All check out All Night Long, Hideaway, Little Blue Mahogany Sessions, Makes Me Cry, World O WOrld and his latest video with Aurora for Greenpeace. Here's a BBC documentary: ua-cam.com/video/ERvd5QjupSU/v-deo.html
Wow, right??!! He was 16 or 17 when he recorded this, I think! You have to check out more of his stuff. There's so much there, it's really hard to know what to tell you, other than he understands music in a fundamentally different way than the rest of us. But, if you go to listen and watch for the musical artistry, before long you begin to realize that he's really a unique human being. Music, for him, is a language of communication and celebration with all of us, his neighbors here on this planet.
This is the one and only Jacob Collier! Hailing from the UK, entirely self taught, playing almost every single instrument under the sun, plus garden hoses, pots, pans and anything which makes a noise ;) not just a musical wizard but also one of the most warm- and bighearted human beings, he’s adored by so many music greats and countless fans. He’s been on tour the last few years and has released a series of stupendous albums, Djesse 1,2,3 and 4, I think. Dive down his rabbit hole and you’ll discover so many gems. Everything he’s ever done is a gem! He’s also good friends with, and has collaborated with, Jonah Nilsson, the keyboard player and vocalist from Dirty Loops. Together they’ve written “Independent Girl”, and multitracked it with countless vocal lines as well as all the percussive stuff - it’s a truly mind blowing track 🔥🔥 Enjoy the most fascinating ride, and also one of the most funnest rides of a lifetime, that is Jacob Collier! 🫶🫶🫶
