It was originally written and recorded in 1958 and covered several times…LeAnn’s music idol Patsy Cline died in an accident before she was able to cover it…LeAnn was 13 when she recorded “Blue” and won Grammy for it at 14 for “Best New Artist” [the youngest]…as well as “Best Performance by Female Country Artist”.
She's not the youngest Grammy winner anymore. However, she still maintains the youngest SOLO artist to ever win a grammy. The Peasell Sisters were younger when they won for group/band country performance.
LeAnn Rimes was 13 years old when she did Blue. That was her first hit and for OBVIOUS Reasons!! Amazing how gorgeous her voice was at such a young age
The crazy part of that is that originally she did basically a "sound check" recording of Blue when she was only 11. 2 years later they went back in and did a "proper" recording to be used for production, but there was a mixup somewhere and they ended up publishing the version from her at age 11 and THAT'S the one that went straight to the top. She spoke about it in an interview a couple years later
The man that wrote this had written it for Patsy Cline. He actually had waited and looked for someone that could sing like Patsy would. He heard LeAnn singing "THE NATIONAL ANTHEM" at a ballgame. When he heard her, he knew that he had found who he had been waiting for. LeAnn was 13 when she recorded it and at 14 she won 3 Grammy's for it. I would say that she was worth waiting for, wouldn't you?
This was Leann's first hit, when she was a young teen. Lovely! She did (much later) a duet with Eddie Arnold called "Cattle Call". That is an excellent collaboration to check out!
Powerful to the max. And 13 when she began!! Yodel ! Ya know its her every time. Dan4/09/22. Ps. And done with such eaze!! Pss. Just cked. She was just 13 when she recorded this! Unreal! Such a great chann. Keep it up.
She was 14 when she recorded this music video for the song Blue in 1996 which was originally Patsy Cline's song in 1958, who was LeAnn's idol growing up and it's also said that Patsy Cline's voice reincarnated in LeAnn Rimes.
I clearly remember hearing this song on the radio when it first came out. I believe she was 13 at the time. When I first heard it I thought it was Patsy Cline. Another fairly early one you should listen to is a song she sang with classic artist Eddie Arnold called Cattle Call. Eddie was also known for his yodel.
My friend, short and sweet, you just listened to one of the greatest Country songs ever sung. It was intended for Patsy Cline to sing it but tragedy struck and 14 year old LeAnn Rimes was chosen to sing it instead. The arrangement of the song, the fabulous melody combined with LeAnn's voice created a MASTERPIECE which will never be forgotten. Three Country singers have been recognized for their great ability to yodel: Patsy Cline, LeAnn Rimes and Reba McEntire. Btw, LeAnn idolized Patsy Cline and she has often been asked to do tributes to her and she really pulls at your heart strings because of the similarity of their voices. Listen to her sing "the" most favorite Country song of all time made famous by Patsy Cline, 'Crazy'.
Folks, let me fill in the history on the song BLUE. It was written by a DJ named Bill Mack for Patsy Cline and she was not able to record it before her death. Bill held the song for Years and years until he heard Leann sing the national anthem at a ball game. Bill sent a demo to her father to see if Leann would be interested in the song. She fell in love with it and recorded it twice actually over a two-year period. Once at 11 years and again at 13 years old. The first recording which is the one you're listening to here was recorded when she was 11years old. After she recorded It they shelfed it for two years while negotiating with two different record labels. One wanted to shelf it and the company Curb wanted to release it, so Leann went with Curb records and recorded the song again at 13 years old just before the official release. Funny thing is the one released was the original recording at 11yrs old. Leann explained the mix up was a mistake and the recording at 13 yrs should have been the one released. There was one word that was incorrect on the 11yr recording that was corrected on the later recording. The word was " weak " as in the line "weak words you whisper". The correct word as written according to Leann was "Sweet" which was updated in the later recording. Bottom line is Leann won a Grammy at 14 for the hit song she recorded at age 11. She is a massive powerful pitch perfect voice. A real talent!
LeAnn is currently 40 years old, and she recorded "Blue" when she was 14. Its the one song that got her mainstream attention, and jump-started her career.
In th 90's I was in the Music Industry, she sang this before her 13th birthday and actually wasn't released until she was 14 in which she won a Grammy an original. Check out her Official Video Cover, "The Story". She doesn't get the credit she deserves, a child prodigy, God Bless!
The story I heard was the song was written for Patsy Cline to record but she passed before she got to record the song. The song writer heard LeAnn Rimes sing the National Anthem at a baseball game and the rest is history.
it was never covered before LeAnn recorded it at 13. and yes it was written with Pasty Cline in mind But Pasty died before it could be given to her. So he waited as others said, until he heard heard her. Her father did not want her to record it. BTW she was 12 when it was given to her. She had been singing in competitions and venues since she was 5.
This angel was 14 when she released this masterpiece. Such a beautiful voice. This song was meant for patsy cline but she passed away before this and I think they found the perfect singer in this jewel from Texas!
Great reaction Sir. I remember when this came out. Although beautiful, it was played so often on the radio I got really tired of it. I am glad it didn't ruin my desire to hear more from her. She is truly an awesome singer. Amazing such talent at so young an age. God Bless.
She was 14 yrs old and this was her 1st hit. It was written for Patsy cline but patsy was killed in a plain crash before she was ever able to record it.
Amazing....Brooks n Dunn Neon Moon, The Judds Why Not Me, Brooks n Dunn Believe, Vince Gill Go Rest High On That Mountain (just noticed u done that one) are a few more that are just amazing
This woman's voice is utterly amazing she's been compared to Patsy Clines voice I could listen to her all day 💕🌹💕🌹 she was 14 I think when she did this song...love her , awesome reaction , much love and respect 💕💕🌹💞😘🥰 should check her out singing Cowboys Sweetheart OMG💕
Way back when, 1994-95 we had a small manufacturing shop in Rowlette Texas. The shop was located in a mini business strip with maybe 8-10 units back to back. Her father had one of the units on the back side and down from ours. When I would work in the evenings she would practice over and over that classic voice tremor thing. For months and months. I think she was about 14 years old. Her hard work definitely paid off. I still remember those days whenever I hear Blue.....
story I read is that a producer suggested this song to Leann's dad for her to sing. For whatever reason, he threw it in the waste basket, she saw it, pulled it out and looked at it, said she wanted to do it. Funny the way life turns some times on just every day actions
Leann was 13 when she recorded blue, it was intended for Patsy Cline but was left on her desk following her death, an agent spotted Leann and thought how similar in style to Patsy she was so gave her BLUE (also title of her first album) to record, it was a smash and led to a long career for Leann including an album covering mostly Patsy Cline songs, recently she has won the masked singer as well as 2 big film songs in can't fight the moonlight from Coyote ugly, and how do i live from con air. (Although it wasnt her version in the film it was Trisha Yearwood)
The story goes that she was watching TV with her parents as a child and Patsy Cline came on singing "Blue". She told her parents, "I can sing that yodel".. Her parents took her challenge and she stunned them with a near exact yodel copy. the rest is history.
I think she was 13 at the time of this video. It was her first song. She was nominated for a music award ( can't remember which one) but she didn't attend..... it was a school night.
Amazing reaction my friend...I have seen your reactions to Dimash, the best male singer of the world...But now I ask you: Have you seen the best female singer of the world?...The passion and dedication when Dimash is performing a song can only be compared with the person who has influenced him to sing leaving everything on stage: His idol, the queen, the incomparable Lara Fabian...Lara is the best female singer and performer of the world...She is a lyric soprano with a amazing vocal range and incredible breath control, which is one of the things that Dimash admires the most about Lara...She speaks 5 languages and sings like in 12 languages....That's why she is the inspiration for Dimash and several singers around the world...You can see on UA-cam covers of her songs made by singers of the stature of: Dimash, Floor Jansen, Diana Navarro, Morissette Amon, Gabriel Henrique, Katrina Velarde, Cakra Khan and others...Please react to her songs, all masterpieces, in LIVE versions, because Lara is more impressive when she sings live, so you can see why she is the idol of Dimash...Try to do it in this order and almost all songs are from the same Lara’s concert “From Lara With Love” in Montreal 1999, one of her best works: 1) Je Suis Malade (Singing in French)...2) Caruso (Singing in Italian)...3) Je T'AIME (2002 Live version in Paris Singing in French)...4) Perdere L'Amore (1999 Live version Singing in Italian)...5) Adagio (1999 Live version singing in english)...6) Broken Vow (1999 Live version singing in English)...7) You are Not From Here (1999 Live version singing in English)...8) Quédate (1999 Live version singing in Spanish)....9) Ti Amo Cosi (2019 Live version Singing a trío with Dimash and Aida Garifullina)....I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Lara...Here you have the link of her amazing performance of the song “Je Suis Malade”....ua-cam.com/video/eHSyk4SGtuY/v-deo.html
Your reaction is just like everyone else's when this first came out. Such a beautiful, beautiful voice. As others have mentioned, she is the only one that can be classed with Patsy Cline. When first hearing this it took me to my knees. She found so much success and fame at such an early age that unfortunately took its toll in her personal life.
People often compare Rimes to Cline, but I wonder when they last had their ears cleaned. Cline has her own distinctive beautiful voice, and so does Rimes in her own great way, but they are completely utterly different.
LeeAnn had one of best voices in American music. Since you're dipping into the teenage singing prodigies pool, please consider reacting to Angelina Jordan--now 16 yo, but been singing in public since she was 6 yo. Won Norway's Got Talent when she was 7 yo (!)
Recorded at 13. Grammy at 14. She was accused of infidelity after she was married and the double standard being what it is (has it ever seriously affected a male?) it sidelined her career. The closest analog I can think of for her early career is Tanya Tucker.
Glad you did this one. Wow! I had forgotten she was only 13!! 😳 Try this one: Carrie Underwood The People’s choice award in 2009 wearing a green dress singing “I know you won’t “live!
This was her first hit. I believe she was 14 years old. I remember that her voice was compared to Patsy Cline at the time. UPDATED: Looking at other comments it seems like I am wrong. I guess 13 years old. 😀
You should listen to Blue Moon of Kentucky and I Want to Be a Cowboys Sweetheart. She has one of THE BEST yodals, and cowboy sweetheart has bars of just straight up yodaling, and it's AMAZING!!!
Lean was 13 when she did the video for Blue, but she'd already did a whole debut album. I remember on the ACMs that year when she won Song of the Year for Blue, the big joke was they had to get her category first because she had to be home in bed for school the next day. The she went on to win 2 Grammy's for it. One of these day you should cover the original One Voice by Billy Gilman, he was only 11 at the time and he was nominated for 2 Grammy's. He's since redone the song with Homefree. But the original when he was 11 is pretty cool.
She's 13, here---14, when she won the Grammy for it; still, the youngest, ever, I think. This is the original---if you've heard it, whomever's was a cover. Willie Nelson wrote this song for Patsy Cline, but she died in a plane crash, on her way back to Nashville, and never got to record it.
No bill mack wrote this song in 1958.He recorded it but was not as successful as le ann.Willie and patsie had nothing to do with it.But patsie would have been great singing it.
I can literally remember the first time I heard this. I’m pretty sure she was only 13 years old at the time. I remember there was some controversy over the maturity level of one or two of the songs she sang back then. I couldn’t believe that voice came from such a young girl. The same thing I thought when I first heard Tanya Tucker. Jewel is also a good yodeler. This link will take you to a video of her yodeling. She also briefly tells a couple of things about her unique childhood. ua-cam.com/video/yWzeTfPHaCM/v-deo.html
Craig I can’t remember if you’ve done any Patsy Cline but if not you’re missing out!! Leann did a great job on this and has an amazing voice. Try Patsy’s Walking After Midnight, Crazy, and Sweet Dreams. Keep up the good work! 🎶🎶♥️
I really like that you're getting off the beaten road as far as country music reactions go. You should listen to Jerry Jeff Walker and Robert Earl Keen. Both are Texas Legends
Another great female country artist is Trisha Yearwood, she is actually the wife of Garth Brooks. She has put out some amazing songs like "She's In Love With The Boy," "Walkaway Joe," and "XXX's and OOO's." She also has a duet with her husband called "Where Your Road Leads"
it was never recorded until LeAnn but it was written for patsy cline so if you have listened to any of patsys songs then you could easily mistake leann for patsy
I have a song suggestion...sorry, didn't know where to comment. I'm a computer novice. I think you would love the song, "The Greatest" by Kenny Rogers. So, so sweet and a great message as a Kenny song usually has.
It’s not a cover as she’s the original artist. It was written for Patsy Cline but she died before she was able to record it. It was then passed on to LeAnn who has been referred to as the next Patsy Cline.
It's not hard to imagine Patsy singing this. She would have torn it up. I'm certainly not saying that LeAnn didn't do the same thing...
She's not the youngest Grammy winner anymore. However, she still maintains the youngest SOLO artist to ever win a grammy. The Peasell Sisters were younger when they won for group/band country performance.
it was written (for patsy) and patsy never was able to record it, for an obvious reason

She absolutely channel's Patsy Cline in the song. She was 13 years old when she recorded this!
A very talented singer.
LeAnn is now 40 years old. I just went to her concert on Friday at Palo and she sounds just as amazing live! She sang this song and it was crazy good!
I remember this well. Everyone was amazed by her voice at only 13 years old
LeAnn was only 13years old when she recorded this. Check out her "One way ticket" , "How do I live" , "Big deal", "I need you", "Nothing about love"
“How Do I Live” is stunning. I remember when she first covered “Blue.” Truly incredible. She was 13. Many thought her voice was “cracking.”
Yeah ... and their parents met at a family reunion .....
This was Leann's first hit, when she was a young teen. Lovely! She did (much later) a duet with Eddie Arnold called "Cattle Call". That is an excellent collaboration to check out!
She does a lot of yodeling in this song
Agree, that duet was wonderful! ua-cam.com/video/iK2A0mca5dc/v-deo.html
Yes! “Cattle Call” is amazing!
LeAnn and Jewel…both yodel well…beautiful voices, long careers…and the two most recent winners on “The Masked Singer” in American.
Powerful to the max. And 13 when she began!! Yodel ! Ya know its her every time. Dan4/09/22. Ps. And done with such eaze!! Pss. Just cked. She was just 13 when she recorded this! Unreal! Such a great chann. Keep it up.

That yodel LeAnn does throws everyone off, I love it!
She has a voice like an angel. So talented at such a young age. She also did a cover of Patsy Cline's "I Fall To Pieces."
She also did a complete album of Patsy.
CATTLE CALL WITH EDDY ARNOLD (Studio Version) is an ABSOLUTE MUST, Mr Arnold was in his 70’s and she was still in her teens!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m nearly 80 and was a big fan of Eddy Arnold and his signature song introducing his old radio show was Cattle CALL!😜
My friend, short and sweet, you just listened to one of the greatest Country songs ever sung. She was 13 when she recorded thus song. Still a Beautiful lady with a Beautiful voice
Ohhhh I love LeAnn Rimes. Remember when this came out. We had CMT at that point. And I instantly fell in love with this song
Do you remember
Cherokee Highway …. Western Flyer
Rimes originally recorded this song at age 11. She re-recorded the song (this video version) at age 13. What a voice!
Yes, she was just 13 years old when she sang this song. Check out another 13 year old Tanya Tucker with her song Delta Dawn.
Folks, let me fill in the history on the song BLUE. It was written by a DJ named Bill Mack for Patsy Cline and she was not able to record it before her death. The correct word as written according to Leann was "Sweet" which was updated in the later recording. Bottom line is Leann won a Grammy at 14 for the hit song she recorded at age 11. She is a massive powerful pitch perfect voice. A real talent!
Yeah she was either 13 or 14 then, just amazing young lady. Great reaction!
"How Do I Live" is a favorite of mine, by her.
She was on the talent show star search. She was 13 years old when she had a hit with Blue!
LeAnn is currently 40 years old, and she recorded "Blue" when she was 14. Its the one song that got her mainstream attention, and jump-started her career.
13. She was 13 when she recorded this. It was amazing to hear when it was released and I was stunned to hear how young she was.
In th 90's I was in the Music Industry, she sang this before her 13th birthday and actually wasn't released until she was 14 in which she won a Grammy an original. Check out her Official Video Cover, "The Story". She doesn't get the credit she deserves, a child prodigy, God Bless!
The Light in Your Eyes is another one of her early hits and one of my favourites
Check out her doing "Amazing Grace". It is done a cappella. She is standing in a church. She was young in this one also. It is amazing.
The story I heard was the song was written for Patsy Cline to record but she passed before she got to record the song. The song writer heard LeAnn Rimes sing the National Anthem at a baseball game and the rest is history.

I was actually friends with the man that wrote this song. His name was Bill Mack. He would hang with us at a Dallas C&W club called Belle Starr.
Great reaction Sir. I remember when this came out. Although beautiful, it was played so often on the radio I got really tired of it. I am glad it didn't ruin my desire to hear more from her. She is truly an awesome singer. Amazing such talent at so young an age. God Bless.
LeAnn was on the American talent show, "Star Search," at the age of . . . 8 years. She was 14 years old when she won a Grammy for this song.
She was 13. I first saw this when lovely Reba introduced her on the cam awards back in the day
Written by the legendary Harlan Howard. This was written for Patsy Cline but she passed before she could record it
I love Leann's Nothing Better to Do. She also does an amazing cover of The Rose, You Light Up My Life, and Bridge Over Troubled Water.
My favorites of hers are Nothin’ Better To Do, How Do I Live, Something’s Gotta Give, and Probably Wouldn’t Be This way! Love your reactions!! 😊
Way back when, 1994-95 we had a small manufacturing shop in Rowlette Texas. The shop was located in a mini business strip with maybe 8-10 units back to back.

Age, 14 ...talent, unreal...even to this day. Check out her performances as "The Sun" on masked singer...(yes she won) ...when judges cry lol.
story I read is that a producer suggested this song to Leann's dad for her to sing. For whatever reason, he threw it in the waste basket, she saw it, pulled it out and looked at it, said she wanted to do it. Funny the way life turns some times on just every day actions
This is true country music, I love it.

I believe she was 13 when she did Blue and I just loved this song. Boy could she yodel❣ great video, keep them coming
Beautiful lady with amazing voice.
She was only 13 when she sang this one it started her career
The story goes that she was watching TV with her parents as a child and Patsy Cline came on singing "Blue". She told her parents, "I can sing that yodel".. Her parents took her challenge and she stunned them with a near exact yodel copy. the rest is history.
Yup! She was a baby! 13 with the voice of an angel.
LeAnn Rimes and Brenda Lee were both thirteen when they both started singing and recording
I think she was 13 at the time of this video. It was her first song. She was nominated for a music award ( can't remember which one) but she didn't attend..... it was a school night.
This song is classic Country and Leann does it justice as Patsy did.
She was 13 !! And oh-so good even at 13!!
Leann sings her old songs better now in her mature voice. She was a teenager then - 13/14. Look up vids of her singing this song today.
One you don't hear often, but well worth a listen is "I Need You."
She was the reason I fell in love with country music. I was I think 13 maybe when she came out with blue.
Recorded at 13.
Grammy at 14.
She was accused of infidelity after she was married and the double standard being what it is (has it ever seriously affected a male?) it sidelined her career.
The closest analog I can think of for her early career is Tanya Tucker.
One of the great country voices. Check out her song How Do I Live
Glad you did this one. Wow! I had forgotten she was only 13!! 😳
Try this one: Carrie Underwood The People’s choice award in 2009 wearing a green dress singing “I know you won’t “live!
She brought a retired yodeling country crooner Eddy Arnold out of retirement to record his song Cattle Call.
Such a wild voice!!
Shr was 13!!!!! When she rose to fame with this song
Leann was 13 when she sang this song.
Have you listened to Linda Ronstadt? She has many beautiful songs. Check out Blue Bayou.
Leann was 13 when she recorded 'Blue'.
I Love Leann, real country.
Her first hit at 13 yrs old
She was 15 when she recorded this song.
This was her first hit. I believe she was 14 years old. I remember that her voice was compared to Patsy Cline at the time.
UPDATED: Looking at other comments it seems like I am wrong. I guess 13 years old. 😀
This is her tribute to Patsy Cline. I think her cover of Unchained Melody is my all-time favorite of hers.
Mine too. I wish more people would listen to it.
I think she was in her early teens when she sang this song. This was a big hit by Patsy Cline.
You should listen to Blue Moon of Kentucky and I Want to Be a Cowboys Sweetheart. She has one of THE BEST yodals, and cowboy sweetheart has bars of just straight up yodaling, and it's AMAZING!!!
This song always gives me chills 👵
Jewel can yodel too. Check it out. And Austin Brown of Home Free yodels in their cover of Thank God I’m a Country Boy! Loved your reaction.
A good one Leann Rimes Cattle Call
Lean was 13 when she did the video for Blue, but she'd already did a whole debut album. I remember on the ACMs that year when she won Song of the Year for Blue, the big joke was they had to get her category first because she had to be home in bed for school the next day. The she went on to win 2 Grammy's for it.
One of these day you should cover the original One Voice by Billy Gilman, he was only 11 at the time and he was nominated for 2 Grammy's. He's since redone the song with Homefree. But the original when he was 11 is pretty cool.
She was 13yrs old making this song.
Willie wrote “Crazy”
At least 5 singers covered it before LeAnn. Bill Mack won a songwriting Grammy for it, nearly 20 years after he wrote and recorded it 👍🏻
Oops---thanks you guys!!
She was on The Masked Singer, but I won't tell you which character she was!!
I believe she was 14 when she recorded this song.
She also did an amazing version of Purple Rain
Keep
up the good work! 🎶🎶♥️
you should check out Tanya Tucker she was also 13 when she started too
I really like that you're getting off the beaten road as far as country music reactions go.
I believe she was 14 years old when she did this song.
I have a song suggestion...sorry, didn't know where to comment. I'm a computer novice. I think you would love the song, "The Greatest" by Kenny Rogers. So, so sweet and a great message as a Kenny song usually has.
She was 13 when she recorded this song. It is a cover. She is a Patsy Cline incarnate
It’s not a cover as she’s the original artist. It was written for Patsy Cline but she died before she was able to record it. It was then passed on to LeAnn who has been referred to as the next Patsy Cline.
She has done a cover of He Stopped Loving Her Today by George Jones. Josh Turner has covered it as well. Both versions are really good.
Blue is the song that made her famous and she was only 13
LeAnne recorded this when she was only 13 years old
