UPLOADER STATEMENT: 6/9/12
Apologies if any adverts appear before this video. I was notified today by UA-cam that due to a possible licensing/copyright issue, they will be placing adverts on this page.
I have declined numerous oppurtunities to enter into youtube's ad program (whereby I would receieve money per hit), and I have declined this for two reasons.
1) I believe the adverts are disruptive and counter to an enjoyable experience on youtube
2) I do not believe I should be reciving any financial recompense for uploading material that may be licensed or copyrighted.
There are many others on youtube who post up music and then get a cut from youtube because they've agreed to have disruptive, silly and nonsensical adverts appear before a video.
As far as I am aware, I was the first to upload these recordings onto youtube. I did this because I enjoy the music and I expected many others to enjoy it as well.
Cheers
Joy Division is just one of the bands that's just unmockable.
In the final analysis, probably the greatest band. Yeah.
Like great criminals are unmockable.
I think this versión is better than the original
I think we all do...
yup ! is better
Muchhhh better!
yup, you're right

when that guitar first kicks in, it takes me back somewhere im not quite sure ive ever been. an indescribable familiarity
to my is a sound played since my childhood I dont know where..
hugh smith I. Fucking. Feel. You.
Very poetic and true words. Words are not enough to describe this feeling. I think I feel the same since I have been a child. I'm not afraid anymore!
Time and time again, i contemplate this walk out of the door. But Listening to Ian Re-assures me that i am not alone in this feeling.
Stay in there bud
Hang in there man. I'm struggling myself but we gotta keep on keeping on. Who knows what the future has in store? It could be some good shit.
i feel the same..... but i am still afraid.....
Bryan Ferry did it get better? it's getting worse for me.....
@@heekyungkim8147 Everyone is afraid. Ride it out. Work it out through art or therapy or both or whatever. Believe me. Please. Wishing the best for you.
Guess your dreams always end.
They don't rise up just descend,
But I don't care anymore,
I've lost the will to want more,
I'm not afraid not at all,
I watch them all as they fall,
But I remember when we were young.
Those with habits of waste,
Their sense of style and good taste,
Of making sure you were right,
Hey don't you know you were right?
I'm not afraid anymore,
I keep my eyes on the door,
But I remember...
Tears of sadness for you,
More upheaval for you,
Reflects a moment in time,
A special moment in time,
Yeah we wasted our time,
We didn't really have time,
But we remember when we were young.
And all God's angels beware,
And all you judges beware,
Sons of chance, take good care,
For all the people not there,
I'm not afraid anymore,
I'm not afraid anymore,
I'm not afraid anymore,
Oh, I'm not afraid anymore.
Very poetical.
always thought he said "old as angels we were"
tho it rises above the surface of the sea, he who consorts with dragons. you who weakened the nations.
Dam what to say just majical
This version sounds sooo much better than the regular one! The voice fits in much better, the guitar adds much more to the atmosphere...it just sounds more complete this way :). Great song!
The lyrics are so obviously written by someone suffering severe depression and contemplating the end of his life, and no longer afraid of that finality. It's a tragedy that he couldn't have been saved.
You are so right ! 'New Dawn Fades' 'I've walked on water...run through fire...can't seem to feel it anymore'
Yes working in mental health has come a long way no way would this happen on my watch
There only war in live.
We only have fight. Never surrender.
I keep my eyes on the door.
I like to believe that Ian Curtis was a poet. I believe it can be reductive to reduce such a powerful song as this to the everyday circumstances of what we know now only with hindsight. There wasn't anything obvious . The line 'im not afraid anymore! ' is bellowed out with force and conviction. It's a statement of defiance. As the song says 'and encapsulates perfectly in the line 'a moment in time . This is the song of a man doing what he loves despite the odds , physical, emotional , passionate love with its deep bonds , shared history, loyalty are tested to the limit when out of nowhere love , or the end of love destroys as well as creates
Cant stop listening to this even when I'm up or down
"When the souls rise in the light of their joy, my soul ascends glorified by the
dark of grief. I am like you, Night! And when my morn comes, then my time will end." - Kahlil Gibran
RIP Ian. Long live Joy Division.
They sound so good raw.
Oh hey me.
MH did so much for JD but raw JD is how it should be.
This is Awesome... Stevie Morris is such an underrated drummer.
The human drum machine.
underrated ? everyone i know who was in a band etc for the last 30 years has idolised him. lol . Him or Klaus Dinger
Underrated by who?...
The heavy metalers??...
Because there is a Legion of postpunkers that don't think so.
The best tune that i think they've done on the peel session & love will tear us apart is so raw
Dreams Never End... now I see why one of New Order’s first songs has that title...
Best song ever , best version ever , poetry in motion !!
Brilliant version.
Peel sessions are fantastic - he was a rare breed
Yes, Ian was one of a kind...a brilliant poet and performer..His loss was and is still so profound.
joydivisiongirl The original never really connected with me, but this one...oh boy. Glad they did this.
Some Guy are you nuts lol nothing wrong with the original,
Well Folks! Here in the comments section we have "Some Guy" and "Guy Man", a sick cruel joke on humanity.
That ending...guitar and bass duelling with each other..😊
@adrianwelyczko7336 Two basses - Hooky overdubbed a second one.
I love playing this on bass. good shit
one of these days i was listening a whole day long to nothing else but this song. gives me the shivers.
i have no words.
Another great John Peel Session version of a JD track.
I must have seen this band, mainly in Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester and once or twice in London maybe 12 times. Each song and each memory it evokes still punches right in the gut... great art, Curtis.
Lucky prick , lol ! :) I'd kill to have seen 'em just once. Cheers!!!
Where & when in London?
loved you when used to smash tennis racquets up and swear at the umpire John
One of my favourite tracks of the 'Unknown Pleasures' album. This session version is just class.
Ian was a genius and a Prophetic Poet
there's such a difference between different album, studio (ie this) and live versions of Joy Division songs... I Remember Nothing or The Eternal are best in their album versions with Hannet's production, but this track is way better live in-studio than on the album. It's too bad they didn't record more tracks like this, a Peel Sessions version of Shadowplay or Atrocity Exhibition would likely be amazing.
I'M NOT AFRAID ANYMORE
Words are not enough to describe this feeling. I think I feel the same since I have been a child. I'm not afraid anymore!
"Oh, here's some nice guitar here. Let's completely MUTE it in the mix."
--Martin Hannett, 1979.
Lol fuck that guy sometimes.
My sentiments exactly
Martin also liked the BIG drum sound, which in a song like Insight seems out of place.
Who do you reckon had a better idea of sound engineering. Martin Hannett who produced one of the greatest albums ever made, or some geezer on UA-cam 40 years after the fact?
Also to include the fact that you can hear the guitar on the album version.
The other night I was fucked up on weed & vodka and happened to be listening Joy Division's Insight as I was passing by this tree with a ton of birds chirping and that's when I realized where that sound was inspired from 1:27 birds
Only weed and alcohol? 😅
First time I have heard this version - its excellent, a real sense of confidence from Ian.
My favorite version is on the Baines Douche live CD which I had but got stolen when my car was broken into and I haven't been able to get hold of since :-{
scary yet beautiful
my fave tune
Transport me back to anytime in history it be to watch Ian Curtis live on stage awesome.
best version
And all god's angel beware
And all you judges beware
I'm not afraid anymore
Ian, what a high price to pay for an immense talent
Best version than original. One of my 5 fav tunes of this awesome band
I love when the live versions of songs are better than the studio version.
My favorite Joy Division song
ian dancing his heart out, daring you to laugh at him.
young guy, eternal music
Yeah, that hits the spot.
Thank you poster 👍
Untouchables
grew up with & will die with.....the soundtrack of my life.a track quote will garnish my epitaph:
"i remember nothing"
-the suicidal one-
Beautiful.
So powerfoul version!
Indimenticabile band...... è ancora dentro me.
Ormai da 40 anni.....
One of their best
He's part of the universe....we will join him one day ...I for one cannot wait
insight their best ever.
Great song Ian's voice is hypnotic music is awsome too love Joy Divison😃😃
Excellent version.
Crying Out Loud with this song....
ESTA VERSION ES LA MEJOR
La mejor versión y el final una locura. Berny Summer a través de la guitarra intentando q la canción no acabe extinguiéndose agónicamente. ❤ una de mis 5 favoritas de joy division y mira q es difícil escoger
So great!
Joy divison hits me hard music just great this song kinda sad like music like this put me in deep thougth what a great band
Ian sounds so different, And I mean that in a good way.
He sounds a lot less melancholy
@Popdivision That's because he's not singing through a telephone on this version!
here i am in america loving this song, makes my hair stand.what an guy
@ratinfest thats soo true theres nothing like them as of right now. s many have desperately attempted to capture the sound. but nothing can ever top this band.
the "hip hop" like drums take this track to a new level.
Very good!! Thanks for posting this...
I can't believe I've never heard of this band until two months ago. holy shit
+Bryan Figueroa welcome to the amazing world of Joy Division and their music.
joydivisiongirl .Thank You, they've really changed my whole perspective on music
***** uno de los mejores
I was about to say the same thing until I read joydivisiongirl's comment :D Have fun! :)
WHAT!!!!! wow you're a baby now you just woke up bro! you'll love them brother!!
I like both, but i agree that it doesnt make anyone less of a fan to prefer the live feel to the same songs. Its more powerful in a way.
Seems the most immense talents always pay a high price...the world isn't made for them...
Sublime .... features in the movie 'awaydays' well worth a watch....
Yes he was actually, there are songs he wrote in his plays that were put to music at the time.
melhor versão
Hate it hes gone very talented person very talented
es una pena que un genio como Ian curtis muriera tan joven y de esa manera! T-T
it's so sad that such a genious like Ian Curtis died so young and in that way!! T-T
Jesus died just for you ...an aura of evil for you ......a special moment in time
R,I,P good music :(
2 words fucking amazing
I do love this version alot. But i felt as though Ian's voice was more power in the studio recording.
paix à ton âme Ian C
Insight is great
I'm not afraid anymore....

It should go on for 20 more minutes
Them put another kind of sensacion on me...is special
if you havent heard this listen
the new wave' birth!!!!
Banda chingonsísisisisisima
@mmasonhauser Absolutely!! Cheers to that!
So dope to hear another version. Don't get how people are saying this is better than the original at all though, it's way too upbeat sounding.
where on earth can i buy this and keep forever
@mmasonhauser
He's just a normal guy, but it shows you what the everyman can achive.
I wouldn't want to have lived Ian's life, through the epilepsy and depression. But every day people suffer from these things, and Ian gave up in the end.
So I'd say he was more of a saint than a God. ;)
Idk about you guys but joy division is one of the best post punk and alternative rock band there is, this insight version is one of the best out there, I listen to it all the time like rn and probably forever till I’m an old man
Joy Division is the best post-punk band of all time! There is only one band that can compare or be better than JD and that is Siouxie And The Banshees. of the rest none. Joy Division has influenced New Wave, Gothic Rock and thousands of famous bands and artists from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Joy Division's music was innovative for its time and not to mention their lyrics that touch your heart. soul and make you feel the suffering that Ian Curtis had
JD happened during punk! Therefore they were a punk band, a continuation of Warsaw!!!
And you felt the need to share that did you??
@doherty366 Oh ok, I'm sorry for misunderstanding..
I don't know if he played on this one..
"Hey, don't you know you were right........."
what does it seem most innovative in their music? (to u)
I have to find this disc
When we see The End, clearly ....
and also the trees. also
I love you UnholyPanda
ROLFMAO, best comment on youtube.
Lo canta de una manera animada, en la original lo expresa tan bien que tiene que hacer parecer que no tiene esperanza, si no fuera por eso pues esta versión seria mejor pero no lo es.
@RedFrankCook Every part of me is jealous right now.
I.Fucking.Despair.
Martin Hannett was a jackass. The Peel Sessions are Joy Division's best recordings. They might be a little raw, but they sound like humans, not hybrid glass/silicon/flesh like they come across on the studio albums.
"sons of chance take good care, for all the people not there" society?..
