Did you guys play Genshin during the Irodori Festival with the Rainbow Aster drink (was that its name?) and the book that reads like shitty fanfiction between Ei and Miko? There was a lot of romantic undertones with those, but there were a ton of people saying they were a parodies, people were reading too much into stuff, so on and so on.

4:07 Ngl, this is giving Mina too much benefit of the doubt. She's made tier lists and gets overly giddy when yuri ships are on screen. Even if the characters are just hanging out, like how she was over the moon when pictures of Firefly and Stelle together were shown. She went dead silent when Caelus was shown to approach Firefly, it's a clear, cut and dry bias.
@ozarazil5745 you probably forget, but this was also done with celebrities, and when people realized how far those stars were becoming, they settled for influencers. It's not exclusively video game and anime characters.
@@ozarazil5745 I think the problem is the mentality of a lot of shippers, I find this sub-culture so wierd as a whole. I have sometimes an idea about what ifs, but they are just something small. A lot of people make shipping there's identity and became really agressive when you question the ship validity at all.

I think the hypocrisy isn't that part but where she says "reduce to waifu bait" when she literally reduces every female char released in all the games she plays as a waifu.

Mina Aoyama is entertaining, until she starts reduces the female characters to lesbian waifu bait.
It's so weird some of these yuri shippers think a female character, despite all her strong backstory, is waifu bait when a male romantic interest in the picture. But if the same character appears along with another female character, they'll be like, "Yaaaaaaas, queen slay!"
Make it make sense. I don't assume there's romance present between two characters until there are clear indications. These shippers are a weird breed of people.
Not trying to defend Mina here. I do think Firefly is set up from beginning to end as waifu bait.
Our first meeting with Firefly we went straight into what looks suspiciously like a first date with the romantic peak being the roof and picture.
In various meetings afterwards, Firefly is sacrificing herself so that the Astral Express can progress through the story. There's a lot of sympathy points being accumulated here. We even go through a second date by chasing Sunday with those weird auditions.
This last patch is almost centered around Firefly and ends with flying in the sky among fireworks, together with MC.
A character can have strong backstory and still be waifu bait. It's not mutually exclusive. Nothing needs to be explicitly said for there to be good romantic vibes. No other character is set up this much with MC, the Express Crew notwhitstanding.
TBH i don't care if people fujoshi or yuri shippers, the only thing bother me is ship war.
Don't start a war if you can't pay the price.
Personally, I don't think she's entertaining. When a sad scene or a cute scene or an emotional scene pops up, she'd just say "Aww". At least, from the videos that I've watched of her, that's how it was.

Was trying to watch Mina play 2.3 story. Then Mina going off about Jade and Topaz having scenes and work together.. Wanting to pull on Jade's banner just cause Jade touches Topaz's cheek and hair. Then during negotiations with Oit, Mina is fantasizing her head canon was Jade was a Power Bottom and Topaz was a Service Domina. I shut off the vod and really not interested in Mina's entertainment anymore.

I would say that saying something in a reaction shouldn't be considered you defining thought, you are just saying what you think at the time. Lots of people change opinions over time, as a Star Wars fan I know this all to well from peoples initial thoughts on Force Awakens is very different a year later.

Now, see, here's the thing, i don't self-insert, even in gacha games (yeah, weird), and even if i disliked Firefly as a character, i'd still want her to have a deeper relationship with the Trailblazer because it would be such a breath of fresh air to gacha game stories. And honestly, come on, let's not lie to ourselves, the "canon" has never stopped shippers. Even if TB had a romantic partner, people would still ship them with other characters anyway.

Genuine question here, I am always confuse with self inserting in video games, how do people define self insert? For me i love it when i play silent protagonist because i decide what he should say what he should feel and what kind of relationship they should have with others, because i want the protagonist to have a good and meaningful time in their life, but i never see myself as the protagonist, i see myself as their friend that helps them make decision.
@@kkacehstrive it's all about imagining that you are the protagonist, and living vicariously through them. It's why self-insert protagonists are often bland and basic so that anyone can add their own depth to the character.
Mina seems to be leaning more and more into her yuri shipper persona and her reactions, in my opinion, have been getting more and more over the top and exaggerated. This felt like a moment of honesty off stream, which makes what she does on stream seem less exaggerated and more fake. Its like find out your favorite reaction streamer prewatched everything, it kinda kills all enjoyment for me since the illusion is gone and I know the reations arent genuine.
Sometimes i dislike that I like reaction content. Because i have consumed too much of it that i can VERY EASILY tell whos faking a reaction or not, its so annoying to look at this CCs thinking theyve fooled me into thinking the reaction is genuine 😂.

the funniest, and maybe sadest, part of this whole thing is that while Mina had been fetishizing any possible chance for a yuri ship with Firefly for awhile, she had the VA of Seele on her stream while they talked about and watched some of the Firefly trailers and Seele's VA mentioned that she didn't like how much of a waifubait character they had presented Firefly as in the beginning, and Mina just said something like "true true, I agree!" the whole time 😂
I'm almost certain she only came out as critical of firefly's presentation because it's the opinion of her friend that transplanted onto her. She thought she'd curry favor and instead got exposed.

I agree with this, i like characters because how they look, how they are played and also their animations. When it comes to character relationship i only care about the canon relationship that has been confirmed by the game, otherwise it is a waste of time to fantasize on things that might never come true. If the creator wants caelus and firefly to be a pair then accept it, if the creator wants seele and bronya to be a pair accept it.

There are two types of voice actors: the ones who already had a streaming/online career before they blew up as voice actors and then the ones who never had an online presence.
The latter ones are the "problem" because once they blow up/get famous they transition into online content creating, like streaming, thinking it should be easy enough since they already got a following from twitter or whatever. That is where the burn happens because they have no idea what awaits them and they burn and start doing dumb shit, they have no idea how to handle an online community.
10:58 basically himiko from hi3, rushed story telling and then suddenly boom death, then the devs go "oh shit the plauer bearly has any attachment to this character" and make some background lore and art and for himko they even extended her time in the manga to try and give the player/readers to know her for something outside of her large rack. From what I recall they got the same writer for the firefly stuff that they had for the himko stuff back in hi3, so some people I follow already called out the story beats before it happened as the build up was the exact same.
Shipping culture is some of the most toxic and destructive things in a community. I moderate multiple large anime series on discord and reddit and have *extremely* strict rules about "shipping." I have watched several fandoms implode due to shipping culture and hate it with a passion. RWBY and MHA are among the worst examples.
This is one of those incidents that can cause an implosion. Shipping also causes community segregation, where people can get ostracized for liking different things, causing massive amounts of split, and when a side has a majority, the other side feels oppressed. All-in-all, stuff like this is just asking for trouble.

On a quick note, talking about how shipping fandoms always view every interaction with romantic/sexual implication. This is why me as a person will always view any interaction towards me with neutral/platonic/friendly/idiotic intentions, because the whole song and dance of "was it platonic, was it romantic" is exhaaaausting.
I do believe that you can understand things on a deeper level if you allow yourself to watch and listen to a person and character as a whole, rather than take tiny moment's and try to spin a narrative that come's at the cost of common sense.

To me, if Firefly didn't have Sam, I'd treat her like Ayaka. Both of them went on dates with the MCs, they don't quite stand out compared to other characters, and they both are the nice girl personality type (granted one is more elegant and the other is a sick nice girl).

Geninuely. The only reason Ayaka stands out is because the fandom turned her into a Yandere if I'm remembering correctly. Without that, she's got near to nothing to her name besides wet socks. Hell, the same could be said about Ayato with all the Kamisato bloodline jokes I've seen.

When I watched a clip of her reaction to that trailer, I noticed in the end that mina didnt like it. She just stared in silence at that part, ignored it, and talked about the rest of the trailer. It is insane how you can sometimes perceive what the vtuber behind the mask feels despite not showing her real face. I suspected she hated it because she didnt even say anything at the moment she saw it, and boom, moments later she tweets that shit.

My opinion about opinions is that they're valid until they're hypocritical. I think it's weird how one second, she supports being able to date Firefly, then now she all of a sudden has a problem with it. The criticism that comes with it is deserved.
However, going to such lengths to attack her with slurs for it is insane to me.

Yeah, let's be real, we are definitely gonna forget about this stuff sometime in the future. Honkai and Genshin are games meant to have pretty ladies and handsome men. You either want to ship them with others or ship with yourselves. Which is meant to be all fun and can be cute in stuff like fanfiction, fan art, whatever as long as it's just that, your opinion and headcanon. If you like shipping Caelus with Firefly, cool. If you ship Stelle and Firefly, that's cool too. If you ship Acheron with either Caelus, Stelle, or even Black Swan, that's cool too. The only thing is that if you don't like certain ships or characters that someone else likes, don't be a dick about it. Like, I personally feel like if you hardcore don't like certain characters or ships for like a small reason, that's too much. They are literally meant for you to basically invest and buy them at the end of the day.
I think when it comes to Mina is that she kinda is falling to the category where she is taking her own headcanons to seriously and that lead to a bad take which ended up backfiring on her and just makes her out to be hypocritcal. Like Again your allowed to like what you like, but just don't take it where you end up hating something because it doesn't align with what you like. We as fans like to think that people who play games are pretty chill and understanding people, but then when someone like Mina with a decent following makes a post like this, it is just very disappointing. We know that her opinion would be different if it was Stelle, but when she follws that tweet where she says she wouldn't have liked it when with stelle either when she does act...lets say fanatic when it comes to anything close to yuri shipping like that Stelle and Firefly hangout, does show clear bias. Honestly, though, you do pretty much have my thoughts on this situation. It is just a nothing burger.
Unrelated to the drama but, I always feel like Firefly is an "odd one out" in the Stellaron Hunter family. Whenever Stellaron Hunter mentioned in the story or any other media, I can only picture Kafka, SW, Blade and Elio in his cat form.

I’m actually a fan of Mina’s and even I thought it was a pretty L take on her part. Did she deserve to get blasted on Twitter for it? I mean, anytime you put your opinion on Twitter, someone is going to blast it. Unfortunately for her, she grossly underestimated just how much in the minority her own take was.
I don’t have a problem with her yuri baiting, but her logic regarding the Firefly trailer was just so hypocritical. Hell, she would have been just better off saying, “I would have preferred it was Stelle there at the end instead of Caelus.” At least that would be in-line with her yuri baiting tendencies. Instead, she decided to practically elude to it being about toxic masculinity ruining Firefly’s character when that was the worst take she could possibly have. The moment was very much in-line with Firefly’s character and personality and Mina in the long run was just upset Hoyoverse decided to use Caelus instead of Stelle because of her sexual preferences.
I do think it was a learning and growing moment for Mina. It wasn’t anything she deserves to get “canceled” over (I hate cancel culture regardless of people’s opinions), but I do hope she learned to think before she speaks or at least be cognizant that her opinion might get some backlash.
I’m really tired of how much shipping discourse there is honestly. Look, I’m a bisexual trans guy and even I was called bigoted during the whole Robin debacle simple because I shipped her with Boothill. Why, because that’s what I relate to and it makes me comfy! I absolutely love Yuri ships but the shippers are some of the biggest hypocrites I have had the unfortunate pleasure of coming across smh. Marina CONSTANTLY sings the praise of Pearl because the latter taught the former everything about the main setting of the game. Came to the conclusion “Oh I see, they’re leaving it up to your interpretation based on how you see Marina. She’s either in love with Pearl, or heavily looks up to Pearl due to the whole “Mentor” thing”, and fell victim to the whole thing that happened with Robin(Still love Splatoon with all my heart though. That series is really solid in terms of story and gameplay)

When it comes to shipping. I typically don't do that much anymore. I do delve into narrative speculation which sometimes overlaps with it since like it or not character relationships are important to the narrative and can directly influence it, but outside of that I mostly just stick to liking fan art I think is cute. I love speculation for the sake of speculation even if I'm wrong like 1/3rd of the time. Gets my imaginative juices flowing. xD
For me the narrative for HSR feels like they are building up FF to be a lost loved one. She has way too many death flags. I can see her coming back and her death becoming a catalyst for the Nihility path is a route I can see them going since loss and nihility has lots of overlap.
I still think there is also a lot leading to me thinking they have plans between TB and Kafka. Just the common literary tropes, multiple references to romance literature, character dialogue, etc makes me think HYV are planning something long term with Kafka.
I just dont get why everyone is blowing this out of proportion. Saying that she should be de-platform for this or she should stop streaming and such. She just had a bad take on Twitter. It's not that deep. 😅

The deplatforming stuff is hella weird. It is still a game at the end of the day with fictional characters. That being said however, the issue (at least from what I've seen) is that not liking the trailer is one thing. However, saying that about Firefly BECAUSE of Caleus showing up is where people got a problem.
There are many other issues with her character well you can make that same assesment (us first meeting with her, the whole Firefly is SAM reveal, among other reasons). However, that last 10 seconds of the trailer being the reason is not good. Especially with how she acted with Stelle in the fold too. It illicits different responses from her. The whole "its just my opinion thing" does hold true, yet for the broader community. Yuri ships tend to dominate and a looottt of people take it as a fact (i.e Robin, Acheron & Black Swan). Mina in that same boat except she doesn't blantently attack people for it, bless her heart.

Firefly is literally supported by the Harmony MC, not the other way around. She can work even without HMC because she is a DPS and is super strong whereas MC is literally one of the worst characters to invest in unless you are using the Harmony version which again is restricted to Break teams. Lore wise, MC is still not super strong at least not as strong as Firefly, Acheron, Black Swan, etc. because what they really have is the power of friendship lmao. Only when the MC's friends and the Astral Express crew work together are they able to defeat the evil people.

100% agree. When saying something like, 'It reduced her character,' it gives people a certain impression.
