Wrt the Zodiac having experience as a police officer, while that is possible (and we saw such a case with the Golden State Killer), it has also been noted in criminal profiling that it's not uncommon for serial killers to be obsessed with law enforcement, even if they can't make it into actual law enforcement positions. They may even seek out employment as something like a security guard or spend time at places that are known hang-outs for law enforcement.

to me it feels aswell that he was just interested in it, as with the coding, if he has a hobby/interest in something, he goes into the subject verrry deep, this would also apply to police work, or maybe other interests.

His uncle was a cop. The uncle wrote murder pulps and that is how he was found (one way) his pulps were matching to the murders. The caliber of bullet cops use in this particular state matches up to some of the murders. The uncle lived in Riverside during the killling years, uncle and Zodiac left SF at the same time. I thought it was this uncle at first who was Zodiac, but then at the time of research, he was too old. I went to ancestry found the family tree and found one guy in the family that was the correct age to be Zodiac. Yes - that was a match to the name in Z340 and Z408 and the name of the suspect my partner found. The uncle was right on front page of Lady of Doom, a reissue. That is how I got the uncles name. Weirdly, that issue was the one circulated by Zodiacers.

Lets take a look at some facts.
5 minutes before the Darlene murder a cop called Richard is in the area, he radios station saying nobody is around.
Right before the attack Mike believes a cop pulls up behind their car, Darlene exclaims 'It's Richard!'. A man (believed by Darlene to be Richard, by Mike to be a cop) opens the door a torch shining in the victims faces. Mike reaches for his wallet believing it to be a cop. The attack begins.
Right after the attack a cop called Richard is on the scene. Admits to moving the bodies.
Idk about you guys, but I think it was probably this guy Richard - who claims not to know Darlene, despite people believing he attended her party before.. not to mention he says he knows where she worked? How can he know that if he doesnt know her?
      Hes the guy. Simple.

I’ve always thought the zodiac killer was a cop, park ranger, someone of authority ….that’s why so many people pulled over and never tried to flee, why he didn’t get caught surely… someone must remember someone who was odd or always wanted to be involved with these cases when he was back in the force! Sounds like he would’ve had a personality a lot like bundy… or maybe even the golden state killer! Someone who blends in are always the hardest serial killers to catch.

28:27 Cecilia got stabbed many more times and was stabbed in her chest, vital organs and lungs while he was stabbed in the small of his back and in less lethal areas with not vital organs or lungs being hit. That is why she probably had less energy and didn’t end up making it. At the end of the day, no matter how much will you have to live, you might not make it. It depends on the injuries and how long it takes for you to get help. They waited for over an hour or two before getting medical attention. I don’t think her passing away. Had anything to do with her will to live. Saying “she gave up” or “had no will to live” is disrespectful.

An impressive piece of work! Amazingly captivating and surprisingly refreshing style in how the acts, events, incidents with their established facts were so beautifully laid out with all their particular points of interest and/or contention, inconsistencies, etc. weaved in such a unique way that it was really effortless to follow along. Even without any prior knowledge about anything more than the mere knowledge that there once roamed a serial that called himself The Zodiac Killer and that he taunted the police, spreading unimaginable fear in the communities he was active in.
I have to say that the pace/tempo that the entire video keeps is genuinely a feat that elevates the experience. As the retelling or describing of the actual killing thankfully wasn’t tried to be made more shocking, scary, horrific or disturbing than it already was. Thus contributing to an easier, much info intake.
This is one of those super rare finds that one does but once in a while 🙌👊👌🤓
I thank you for sharing your amazing work, appreciate it! I do sincerely hope and look forward to seeing more of your skilled content production..well not the actual production per se but the product or that..production..

That would explain why everything pointed to Allen but yet the handwriting couldn't be linked to him. It could be that the man writing the letters committed the taxi cab driver murder. But then you have the inconsistencies that Graysmith states in his book, so who knows... maybe Allen had nothing to do with it, but there was a hell of a lot of coincidences. The watch itself having the zodiac logo was a hell of a "coincidence."

So your theory is that a hired gun decided to bring attention to his crimes by writing letters to the police in an effort to *distract* people from the killings? That doesn't make any sense to me.

    • @dsolosan
      @dsolosan 10 місяців тому +3

A hired killer has a link to each murder through the person who hired them, while a serial killer does not. If the police think you're a serial killer (I think this is how the theory goes), they're not going to be looking at people in the victim's circle. The way they approach the case will work to a hired killer's advantage.

Born/raised in Vallejo in the 70s (~ 90s). I lived blocks from the Ace Hardware store on Amador &
Tennessee and walked by it every day to junior high (on Amador). I Even shopped there alone as a teen while ALA worked there (I cannot say I remember him at the store). My junior high was just 3 blocks from his home and 2 from the pancake house. We were allowed to leave school for lunch and would walk by his street to get to the nearby 7/11 and “Lileds” candy store. We were largely unaware he was a suspect, we didn’t have the internet back then. One thing I’d like to point out, that no one has, is that in that era, in Vallejo at least, people used a bottle of clear glue to glue stamps on. It was a clear plastic bottle with a red (?) large rubber tip meant specifically for that. They also used it at the post office. I remember it well because as a kid, I always wanted to put the stamps for my mom using that glue and we were always at the post office sending mail. I don’t know when people stopped using it. But anyhow, the fixation with the stamps plus the fact that ALA didn’t like to lick stamps, I would think he likely would have used the same glue. It was quite common! I may be wrong but I’ve heard that the DNA taken from the stamps is from the top
of the stamp, not the bottom.

Allen could have written the letters (he seemed to like the attention) and the killer, was other guy. That makes the most sense to me. Cause the sketch wasn't similar to Allen in any way. That explains a lot. That's also why the DNA doesn't match.
And maybe, just maybe, the killer was Richard Gaikowski:
    1. Edited a magazine called "Good Times". Zodiac makes reference to "good times" in his ciphers.
    2. Had a history of mental health problems, including violent outbursts.
    3. The dispatcher recognised Gaikowski's voice as the Zodiac when he called the police
    4. Went to a drop in mental health centre for treatment that was located opposite the library that 2 of the victims used.
    5. His nickname in the Good Times office was "Gaik", which is a word that appears in the ciphers.
    6. Had military training in both combat medicine and codes and ciphers.
    7. The office of Good Times magazine was two blocks away from the site where the taxi driver was murdered.
    8. Bears a strong resemblance to the police sketch of Zodiac.
    9. Was discounted by the cops only because he claimed to have been out of the country at the time of the murders
    10. During his stay at a mental health facility, the Zodiac didn't write for 3 years
    11. One of the letters sent to the cops was a Halloween card with a skeleton whose right hand held up 3 fingers with the number 14 written on it, and with only one eye having an iris. Next to the skeleton is a text saying: 'I feel it in my bones, you ache to know my name, and so I'll clue you in...'. Gaikowski's birthday is March 14th. He also had a fake eye.

Top quality documentary, congratulations. The Zodiac Killer was an idiosyncratic serial killer, he killed most of his victims quickly, with a gun or knife, in public places. Had it not been for the letters and phone calls, maybe the authorities would never have connected the dots, the Zodiac cases could have easily passed as unconnected burglary. He wanted a challenge, but not to lose it.
Those puzzles created a major distraction for investigators, the ones that have been deciphered had no useful clue, and the news at the time gave all the attention he craved for. It's very sad for those innocent people who lost their lives, and for their families too, but the Zodiac gambled with public attention and authorities and won.

Its no accident that there is a male victim in all the confirmed attacks and that the only survivors are male. Zodiac fantasizes about being the 'alpha male' and humiliating 'beta males' in front of their girlfriends. He wants the males to feel weak and helpless and for their girlfriends to see them as incapable of protecting them. By injuring the men but not killing them he wants them to feel like failures for the rest of their lives and Zodiac derives sadistic pleasure from that. Notice that he never actually sexually assaults the woman in the confirmed cases. Instead the focus is on proving that her bf is inadequate as a protector. In the Lake Berryessa case for instance the bf watches helplessly while hogtied as Zodiac stabs the girl to death and bf can't do anything about it.

The e-fits are completely different. Plus the MO. Also, what the person wrote on the car, again that wasn't something I think Zodiac would have done. The person who did the lake berryessa murder used Zodiac to get away with murder, simply. Also if you read Kobek's book, Paul Doerr is a slam dunk for this one. He would have been in the area at the same time and was likely wearing a costume to another event on that day. Also had a sheath for a knife identically to the one pictured (there's a picture with him showing it off.) But then there's absolutely no circumstantial evidence that could link him to any of the other murders, certainly the Stine one. Also there's the clear evidence that after the first 4 letters, the further 32 letters were clearly written by another person. There's absolutely no way all these murders attributed to Zodiac were done by the same person. It's impossible.@@joinedthenavy

The cyphers and how he toyed with the authorities were too much to say this was an average joe that committed one crime of passion and tried to cover it up with others

12:44 The journalist mentioned for the first time how the killer chased them through the city with a car and cornered them!
12:47 Then the surviving victim, Michael Mageu, testifies: "We were chased by that guy, he chased us out of the restaurant...etc.
My question is this; why on earth didn't those poor kids drive the car towards the police, stop only in front of the policeman and the police station (or the sheriff), honking at the police? Or why didn't they go to any place full of tourists, since it was all happening on the 4th of July holiday? I can't understand their thought process and reaction to a threat to life when adrenaline "takes over" the body and brain.
A typical fight or flight situation, but unfortunately, the girl was killed and Mike has to deal with that trauma for the rest of his life.

For me I believed Arthur Leigh Allen and another individual were both the killers. They worked together that way it would make collecting any sketch’s, evidence, circumstantial evidence and eye witness testimony impossible as it’d always change between two people. One would always disprove the other.

I’ve always thought the same thing, Allen is involved. He was at lake berryessa that day, wore a Zodiac watch, with the same name and symbol!!! Come on!! And we still don’t know how he came up on the cops radar. And I know Allen’s DNA doesn’t match the envelopes!! But that doesn’t mean anything to me. Also once they talked to Allen the murders stopped!

@@tgj42495 No one is "offering themeselves up to get stabbed".. But it is strange that in an open area, a person starts approaching you. That would get any normal person to be on alert.. This is called proxemics.. In an elevator if you are 4 feet away and moved only 1 foot closer that's strange.. But in an open area, people ususally go AWAY from others to maintain space.. When the killer donned a mask, he merely thought it was strange... Come on... you run or pull your gun or knife at that point and say GTF away.. Not just laugh at a person with a gun, he's says "he wanted to help him" and says he wasn't scared. Initially, they hear rustling and any normal man looks up cause they're protective and cautious, This joker says to the girl to look around while he continues to relax and report back when she says there's a man approaching he says to just ignore it.. Again, any normal man would first take their own assessment, but even after she reports a guy approaching he says "just ignore it". What a lame boy.....

Well done my only issue is that you like most investigators are only looking into finding one perpetrator. Thats an assumption, that in this case in particular, that needs to be looked at again. Also its a good idea to look at the police and motives they would have to let us think its only one master criminal and not several different people all made to appear as one perpetrator.
