Hi there Mr.Brown! I think ER (or Emergency Department) is an AMAZING first-time job for new Nurses! You have to utilize SO MANY clinical skills and didactic knowledge. I learned so MUCH from the experienced ER Nurses while I was on my ER Rotation in Physician Assistant School. This is great advice you gave!
Thank you so much for this video. As a high school senior student, I want to be ready after nursing school and volunteering wil be one the things that I want to do.
You did exactly what I did. Just walked into the Hospital and asked! I remember doing this at UCSF. Walked into the Hospital, hey you got any vacancies. The director gets to see your face, you literally go there and sell yourself. Anyone can look good on a paper application......but show up in person......:)
Thank you for this video, I will definitely keep all this great points in mind once I get into the nursing program. I'm in my 3rd year of college and I'm trying to finish my pre-reqs/general ed to finally apply. Thank you for being a good example for all of us nursing students!
I’m doing my senior preceptorship in the ER. I have 8 shifts left until I graduate and I appreciate this video! Btw please make a video on what you would do if you witness a car crash on the scene. I remember you posting an IG story about it!
I've been in the ER for 3 years now, and you hit some good points and some could be worked on points like realistically new grads probably shouldn't start out in the ER unless they have been exposed to the ER work environment. I've seen far too many new grads come into the ER thinking it's for them, get into and actually see what it takes, and end up leaving before 6 months.
Ricky Robbins It will be different depending on where you volunteer. I did a log of cleaned, stocking, feeding patients, graving supplies that the nurses needed etc. I literally just showed up and asked about their volunteer programs!
Hi Mr.Brown, I just wanted to start off by saying that I appreciate you making this video so much. I am currently knocking out my prerequisites to start nursing school, and I have been trying to figure out a way that I could gain experience while taking my classes since I am not taking a full class load right now. I also live in Vegas are there any hospitals in particular that you would recommend going to volunteer at?
Hey, I'm in my second to last semester of nursing school. Hoping for practicum placement in the ER. My question is, how do you get your advanced certs without having your license? I'd like to get them done before applying to a local residency program which starts in Feb. I graduate in Dec. How can I get those advanced classes in time?
