New Eden's population is about 144 trillions according to some sources I have researched and the infrastructure feats seem extremely impressive. Their trade hubs and fortresses are huge.

Also since the Infinity is a special ship I'm willing to assume it would perform better than the current Halo lore suggests but I wouldn't personally give it the win. I'd be more inclined to give a stronger chance to a similarly sized Covenant ship. Maybe I just have too little faith in the UNSC when comparing them to other Sci-fi Civs.
@@Titanic_Tuna That's alright. The Titan is one of the strongest and most outlasting ships in the EVE Online universe. Going through tons of battled and still making it through. And it being the size that it is and being so efficient means that it must be extremely durable and well constructed. The Eve Online's infrastructure and production output is some of the most powerful compared to other Sci Fi verses generally. If the UNSC met the humans of New Eden imagine how they would react to it.
I see the Infinity as sort of like the Halo version of the Enterprise 1701-E. I feel like the developers wanted to make a self contained ship that could explore the galaxy, be self-sufficient, and go toe-to-toe with the hostile unknowns out there. I haven’t played the most recent Halo game, but it seems like they killed off the Infinity, so the potential of a Star Trek style galaxy exploration storyline is gone.
in the current book, the Infinity has crashed landed on the planet with the huragoks, so there's a good chance of it being fixed up and upgraded when needed.
In the lore, the infinity was originally being constructed as a way to keep humanity from being completely eradicated during the human-covenant war by having a significant enough number of the population on a mobile platform that could stay away from the covenant and keep evading. Then the war ended and it was repurposed.

It would be believable that the UNSC would work on it after they finished Infinity by putting it's sister ship's resources into it, but definitely not from scratch with the state of things. Now a cooperative project between UNSC and Swords of Sanghelios would be epic, pooling resources and tech, and having a hybrid design, that would be pretty cool, and another example of humans accepting formerly exclusively enemy species, just like on Onyx

The Punic isn't actually stated to carry that much in the way of ground units. It was a full-on space fighting ship. Aside from CnC, it was packed with weapons and built around their spinal MAC, one of the strongest non-SuperMACs ever built. You are confusing the Super Carrier role with that of Infinity's role, which was to act as an expeditionary/diplomatic ship. The Orion Assault Carrier and Pheonix class were the ones that came with heavy ground force detachments.

They are like Battlestars from BSG, a Carrier/Assault ship-Battleship hybrid. Good armament and good protection (multimegaton MAG guns, Archer missiles, meters of Titanium battleplate and later shields) with the ability to deploy strike crafts and ground vehicles. What i don‘t understand is why the Infinity is used for diplomatic missions or artifact retrieval. Its like bringing a tank to a peaceful demonstration. It makes sense for force projection like today but a warship isnt a diplomatic ship.
Honestly, probably due to sheer size the infinity has all their facility needs. State rooms, science labs, medical facilities. You're right it's not the best look to use warships as mobile cities. I think even the US has used warships to bring aid to nations in the Caribbean after hurricanes but proper science or state vessels would work better.

You may think is overkill but she was originally a Ark to save humanity.

While the profile of the ship looks less interesting than say the pheonix class carriers, its cool to see the unsc use super carriers more. The covenant super carriers were even bigger than the infinity yet no one seemed to bat an eye at those.
They did bat an eye at them. There was literally nothing the UNSC or Covenant had that was stronger than the Super Carriers. There also was a very small handful of them ever in existence. Those were Forerunner powered and enhanced death ships.

Between a ship carrying wing only units and a marine detachment transport. Just so happens the treaties that limit the amount of aircraft carriers in service. Don't include a carrier with aircraft launch and land deployment capabilities.
Things like the Infinity makes me think. We today think Aircraft Carriers are the peak Capital ship power. But just like how we thought Battleships were the ultimate class of Capital ships. I wonder what a future generations of ships will look like? Could there be something like a Super Aircraft Carrier where instead of being a runway, it's an entire airport. With three take off lanes or so. Maybe get something more interesting and unique? Like a reimagined Battleship. Big vessel, but buts of drone launching capabilities, cannons, and missiles? Though If we did get something crazy like the Super Aircraft Carrier idea, I'd imagine we'd need a new Panama Canal. I vote we just cut a big line through Texas and call it good.
2:05 while the lesson is not lost on me the UNSC uses elctro magnetic cargo locks on their ships for the bulk of cargo securment as well as light physical locks and the power surge shown in the video would have knock out the magnets and the mammoths shown would have been far too heavy for those poor light physical locks to hold in place. Edit: i cannot justify the warthogs and lighter crates but that is some of those can definetly be explained by using warthogs to move around to cargo bay as that thing is huge and the crates could be hold supplies that they were using at that moment as to why they were unsecured.
One question I always wondered, was, Why didn't the UNSC devise some kind of APS system for larger ships? I am not extremely well rehearsed in halo, but I'm pretty sure the UNSC could come up with something to counter enemy weapon systems?
They do have APS systems, but they can't really do anything when a plasma lance can rip a cruiser in half with a single shot. No amount of defenses could stop an attack like that. But enemy fighters and plasma torpedoes can be countered with point defense systems.
Infinity is almost 6000 meters long. That means almost 6 kilometers. Irs a huge ass ship. Moving an object like that in space will require a huge amount of energy and an impressive system of thrusters all directed by a informatic system that can be comparable with some military nets. But we talking of the peak of naval e gineering of a civilization that spans over thousands of planets and is 500 years more experienced than us. So they must have things that we cant even imagine. Even considering that focusing just on civilian efforts for 500 years made their military progress quite slowly than what we can expect from them.
If only 343i didn't mess up with the story since H5 ... we would have seen the Infinity and the Eternity have important roles in post h4 and spartans ops conflicts, but no ... what could have been.
Yah, it's a huge bummer to see something like the infinity and be excited for the possibilities only for it to be handwaved away off screen. I hope with DLC maybe we can at least secure the wreckage.

In fact, with those "narration events" that have happened in Infinite I have enough to see what Halo currently is.
How many infinities would it take to defeat the covenant at the height of their power, just btw the infinities will have all its total equipment, Fighters, Personnel, Ammo, and even the 10 frigates per each infinity (Strident Or Anlace either one)
Considering the Pillar of Autumn and its crew was meant to capture a Covenant carrier and attempt to infiltrate High Charity and capture the Covenant leadership to end the war....I think it really depends on how it is used. Only one if you have the right Intel. But the one weakness of the covenant was its own racial bias and inside power struggle. Humanity didn't defeat the Covenant, the Covenant defeated themselves.
Pre schism they would still need dozens of them if thats all the UNSC was using as the covenant fleet was just huge altogether. People often overlook the covenant basically destroyed 98% of themselves

The Infinity carried 4 Series 8 Super MACs though! Just 1 S8 SMAC is at least 2x more powerful than the ODP SMACs even Earth uses!

I had to look at the size comparison between the USS Gerald Ford and the UNSC Infinity. That thing is stupid massive... but I think it's a but dumb to carry other ships inside of it when they can carry more troops. All that space is wasted imo.
