  • The Brunswick Street Oval is located in Fitzroy and was the home ground of the Fitzroy Football Club from 1883 (they entered the VFL in 1897) through to 1966. The ground is now called the W.T. Peterson Community Oval.
Billy tells stories about Barry Breen's first game in 1965, an unfortunate off the field experience and the last game at the Brunswick Street Oval when Carl Ditterich raised emotions on and off the field. He also shares a classic tale about Tony Ongarello (thought to be the last player to kick a goal from a place kick in 1955). Billy closes by recognising Champion Brownlow Medalist (3) and member of the AFL Team of the Century - Fitzroy great Haydn Button.
Details on the Brunswick Street Oval can be found at Wikipedia and Austadiums.

My uncle did his knee at Brunswick St Oval playing for the Dees in '45 or thereabouts. Visited the ground a few years ago with my nephews and a footy. To think the great Hayden Bunton played here. Hallowed ground. Thanks for the memories.
