      I'm also very interested in hearing any tips you have! I'm in the process of applying as an international student for a Publishing Masters in London but I'm more worried about finding a job in the industry after the program. Production seems to be popular, yet it's hard to find good information about what skills are good to have mastered before applying that can set an applicant apart.

    Thank you for the video, Sanne! I found your video while Googling ways to find a publishing job. I've been a freelance nonfiction line editor and copyeditor for over five years. (I'm an occasional proofreader.) I'm a lifelong language enthusiast. Finding a full-time position (especially a remote position) in trade publishing has been quite challenging. I'm concerned about not having a relevant degree (my degree is in an unrelated field) since publishers often require it. I'd love to find a way to bypass that requirement.

    I know that this is completely off-topic but I'm travelling to London in a few days. My friends and I are going book shopping and I was wondering if you had a bookshop suggestion. I saw your book crawl video and your London bookshop faves video, but you didn't specify if you preferred one of the shops over the others or if one had a lot of YA and fantasy/sci-fi (which is what we’re mainly looking for).
    Also, I love you videos and the current frequency of them! Thank you for producing such good content :)

      I've been running my own small publishing house for 6 years now. I'm looking to work for a bigger publishing house and hopefully get mine off the ground at the same time.
      I wonder if my experience will help me get into publishing. I do everything from writing and editing to marketing and designs.
      I've been distracted from it for the last year or so due to teaching...which I don't enjoy so much.

      +Outspoken Artistry I have no experience with that I’m afraid, but hopefully someone else will have some advice in the comments!

    • @alliecity
      @alliecity 5 років тому +8

      Hi! My biggest tip for getting a job in a bookstore is to make sure you show a passion for communication and customer service. It's not enough to say "I love books" or "I love to read I read so much" because everyone does, and that's only one small aspect of working in a bookstore. Anyone can talk about a book they love. But can you talk about a book you have never read? If someone needs help picking a book in a genre you hate, can you help them? One of the most important skills you can have working in a bookstore is a passion for helping people find what they are looking for! You need to be able to talk to anyone, and to be able to listen to what they need, ask questions, and help them, even if it's outside of your comfort zone. If you're writing up your resume or doing an interview be sure to emphasize these skills, as well as a general passion for books. They have to go hand in hand! Hopefully this helps, good luck! :)

    hey i have an urgent question because i’m deciding whether or not i should defer fall classes...... i’m looking for advice from anyone in the industry on this: is it looked down upon to take 2 internships at once/ not a good look? i would be transparent with both companies but i’m worried to even ask

    • @booksandquills
      @booksandquills  3 роки тому

      If they are full time internships then you should only take one, but if they’re only a few hours a week and you have plenty of time to balance both, it could be worth doing. Maybe accept the one you like most and then have an open conversation about whether they would allow you to take on a second one, as you would like to get as much experience as possible. They might say yes or no.
