    unfortunately this pen has an unsuccessful cap design.
    I have been using it for 2 years and if I don’t write or draw it for more than a week, I find that the ink is drying. Platinum Preppy, for example, I did not observe such a problem, although they lay without use and for several months.
    I use 2 Pemnanship- with EF and M itallic nib, both have this problem.

      Seems like the seal isn't good then. Thanks for sharing!

      Preppy has a special sealing cap inside (external) plastic cap of the pen. It is pressed with a small spring to better fit into the pen section after closing the cap. That's why ink on your Preppy's nib is not drying ;)

      My first fountain pen purchase from Goulet Pens was a Platinum Preppy. I had used a fountain pen when I was in elementary school; but, had not used any until I bought my Preppy. I purchased extra cartridges, Platinum Carbon Black. My Preppy has a fine point and after using it a while, I thought that I should have got a medium nib instead. The fine point was really fine; almost an extra fine. I think a different ink might have helped. But, my Preppy kept being a slow starting pen. When the ink was flowing, the pen made nice lines; but, it was slow to start and sometimes I would have to dip it in distilled water to get it to work. I have a Pilot Metropolitan with a medium nib and used to use it all the time. Now, my favorite pens are the TWSBI Ecos that I have, 2 with EF nibs and one with 1.1 mm stub nib. I also have a Lamy Al-Star that I wish I had not purchased; but, it was a limited edition pen and I liked the color.

      Same issue. I have the Plumix, which has an identical mid-section but slightly different cap and body; when I leave it laying on the desk for a few minutes, condensation can be seen forming inside the cap. I now tend to keep it in a drawer or pocket when not actively using it. Writes great, though!

    I got one of these a few weeks ago and love it. My only complaint is how small the converter reservoir is. I draw with it a lot and it doesn't leak, so it's great to throw in my pocket. I would classify this as a fountain-crowquill pen, because of the fineness of line and stiffness of nib. It would be nice to have an EF flex nib version.

    I love this pen! It's so cheap, and it draws nice extra-fine lines.

    I own several of these and like Teoh demonstrated they are great for hash marking. They do dry out rather quickly. I do like drawing with them.

    i have this on in black . It didn't last very long.. The ink cartridge holder broke and i had to turn it into a ink dropper pen. I'm always scared for possible leaks. love the nib but the fragile plastic leaves much to be desired.

    It's a shame this pen was discontinued. It used to be five dollars.
    I stocked up on them when they were discontinued. Even though I have pens worth thousands, I use these ones regularly for school since the nibs are incredible and the form factor is ludicrously comfortable.

    I bought these and made them into dropper pens. It looked great but didn't work that well as a dropper pen since it kept blurping ink. :/ I also didn't find writing with it that comfortable, but I did like the clear body and clear, screw on cap.
    Diamine's Oxblood ink looked pretty neat in this pen as a dropper.

    Thank you! I like pilot pens, but I will pass on this one. I want a fountain pen I can sketch with. My husband keeps asking me which one I want for Christmas. I want something that's not too expensive, maybe a Lamy Joy? I wish I could decide.

    There appears to be a 'desk pen' version of the Penmanship called the Pilot DPP-70 (in red or black), but it's hard to source outside Asia. It's obviously less practical but it does have a traditional dip-pen look about it. i.imgur.com/zt0eB78.jpg

    Does this model have a nib comparable to Pilot Plumix EF? It's hard to find Penmanship pen in Poland, but Plumix pens have a very familiar shape to this one.

    • @ringwe
      @ringwe 5 років тому +2

      The shape of the barrel is almost identical, you can switch caps, however the body of Plumix is a couple mm shorter than the body of Penmanship. Also the shape of the ring is slightly different. You can almost screw the barrel of Plumix on the feed of Penmanship. But the body of Penmanship stops high on the grip section of Plumix leaving a gap. Compared to Plumix EF, I find Penmanship EF to be extremely smooth, I was surprised to see Plumix EF to scratch and skip, because Plumix M glides like butter. Perhaps because it's not an Italic nib like the Plumix EF.

      @@ringwe Thanks. I'm asking because I'm searching for a cheap EF pilot pen nib to switch the F nib of my Petit1. I was thinking about some MR, but the EF nib in Penmanship looks sooo damn good! But is more pricey over the MR/Metropolitan.

    • @ringwe

      @@grabkor I just love how the EF writes. And it fits perfectly on my Kakuno, so it's win/win. Pilot is really efficient, it's remarkable how their nibs are interchangeable, it's just sad that their distribution in Europe is so set on selling only M nibs.

    • @grabkor
      @grabkor 5 років тому +1

      @@ringwe Yeah, you tell me.. I love the Kakuno feel, and a EF demonstrator has this extreme wow-factor-eye-candy look. But as You said - it's a real shame, that in EU Pilot has such a poor distribution ☹️
      PS. I think I will order Kakuno EF from AliE, but it's not the cheapest Kakuno on the market 😜

  • @ringwe
    @ringwe 5 років тому +1

    The biggest selling point of the Penmanship is that you get an EF nib that fits on almost every Pilot fountain pen. In some markets, like Europe, for some reason, it's extremely hard to find Fine nibs, and buying a pen from abroad brings on the nightmare of customs duty, however, the Penmanship is below the ridiculous EU duty free limit of 25 or so Euros when importing a web purchase. So if anyone wants to get a Fine nib for their Pilot, here is the perfect solution.

    Teoh, are the CON-50s still available in Singapore? Sadly, they were discontinued on this side of the Pacific. Also, cutting off the end of those Platinum Carbon pens, so they're just long enough to hold the cartridge, converts them into a really nice pocket pen for street sketching.
