    I was rooting so much for Donnell. Kathy said it perfectly with the Lions heart. I even went to church and lit a candle and said a prayer for him the morning of Day 2.

    Thanks so much for explaining the men's selection system. I agree that it was great to see the men's and women's teams together, but I also loved that the trampoline and rhythmic gymnasts were included, as well.

    Heartbroken for Shane. He had the meet of his life at trials. We were at trials, and I'm still not over it. The crowd was shocked he wasn't selected (and yes, I understand the process and will root for the team).

      He is in a very important role. It was heartbreaking, but he will rise to the occasion in his role, nonetheless because he showed the whole world what a class act he is!

      Same. Kathy explained so well the heartbreak of being in that arena for what happened with Shane. Of course, we’ll still root for the team with good grace, but that was devastating.

    This is SUCH a good broadcast in explaining how gymnastics and team selection works. Non-gymnast old lady here, I remember Steve Hug from 1972!!! Heartbroken for both Shane and Donnell, may their contributions to US Men's gymnastics be acknowledged and celebrated by us all.

      I agreev100%! My favorite is when she is leaning on her arm, hand on side of her head. I know this seems odd to make a comment about it, but it reminds me of " The Thinker" and she seems to really be taking it all in in that moment...it it sets her apart from the traditional broadcaster's pose and I just really like it. Sometimes little things just stand out.

  • @amberreed4443

    The team scoring scenarios should be a blueprint, not a final decision. Team building is not a purely analytical thing and should not be left to a computer. It's not completely fair to say it is objective because the scores themselves are subjective. They also only use domestic scores and not international. Data driven processes are not meant to be used without context and discretion. The team selection leaves us shaky. We are screwed with any injuries that occur past quals since neither Khoi nor Shane can be brought in at that point.

    • @cocoroni1031
      @cocoroni1031 5 місяців тому +1

      Yes, if they use this method, they gotta have the scores that accurately reflect how they will score in Paris. And this method doesn't care pacing which is terribly bad. It's better to pace well at trials than championship (4 week between championship and trials).

    • @amberreed4443

      They definitely have to work on the judging situation - making sure we have the best judges there and that they are consistent to make sure the athletes are getting scored similarly to how they will at the Olympics. I like that they set up this criteria even though it definitely needs some tweaking. I agree with the other comments about pacing. It would be interesting to know what the athletes would say about weighting the scores more toward trials. It is understandable that after most of the athletes have completed an NCAA season and now have to ramp back up, that they may look rough at nationals. In the past has there be a big difference between performances at nationals and trials? I guess I could go back and look at 2021, but that Olympic cycle was such an outlier it may be difficult to compare. I watched in the past (have been watching gymnastics for 40 years), but don't have much detailed memory of the teams chosen. Not having social media to follow, I wasn't quite as invested or informed because I really only knew what the commentators on broadcasts told us.

    Their system is fabulous if everyone hits and doesn't have even an extra swing...too be they didn't take a serious look at NCAA ws they were so close to the build-up, just like US Classic....especially how quickly competitions rolled out with a mere 2 weeks between classic and Championships then another 3 weeks to Trials...used to be 3-4 weeks between Classic and month until Trials......

    I prefer the data driven selection. You can always adjust the criteria and make adjustments to make a better team and the why can always be explained.

    • @creating1_c1999

    Yes the US men are slowly improving and being more competitive, but let’s be honest, the only reason team USA are in the hunt for the bronze (along with team GB) is because Russia is being banned (and rightfully so for many reasons). China, Russia, and Japan are heads and tales above the rest of the teams.

    • @FigureNastics
      @FigureNastics 5 місяців тому +2

      I think it's sad that the Russians were never banned as a whole for the state sponsored doping system they had, and most likely still have. What kinda cocktail did they give Artur Dalaloyan for him to compete floor and vault like 3 months after a ruptured Achilles? That's just insane and should raise a bunch of eyebrows...
