love this episode!! super insightful!! 💗
So glad you are back, Bridget!!! I absolutely love your show!! And…..#GeauxTigers 💛🐯💜👑
Bridget, I really love your content and these interviews. Keep up the great work.
Just an awesome interview Cecile is such a beautiful & honest person. ❤ I’m interested in knowing why Cecile cannot speak to her previous gymnasts. Love your show. From Australia Hayley ❤
NCAA compliance has rules about when and how college coaches are allowed to communicate with athletes who are being recruited by colleges. This presents a unique situation since she used to be their coach and now is a college coach.
Cecile seems so calm and grounded. This was a nice 👍 interview. Nice job, Bridget and Cecile.
Terrific interview. I'm eager to follow them and learn more now.
Aleah securing the win for LSU is easily one of my favorite moments in all of gymnastics, especially finishing off on beam. Can’t wait to see the girls this season 💜
I was a baby gymnast back in the 90s. Wanted to be a Bulldog...I am so excited to see what this team is with Cecile.
Yay🎉!! You are back. I’m so glad!! ❤❤❤
Steve Nunno went from coaching Shannon Miller and others to become head coach at Oklahoma for 2001-2006 I believe
At competitions he came across almost as bady as Bella. Borderline rage bubbling below the surface
Cécile! Texting during a podcast? (17:39) Tsk tsk-especially from someone who was just complaining about compliance! Funny how no one really likes compliance, yet we’re all subjected to it. Surely, it's not because some people only follow the rules when it works best for them! Sure, some of us don’t even mind the whole world seeing us ‘make a mistake’ on a podcast (sheesh, so I texted-big deal, right?) ... That is, until the "Optics" Department at GSU calls to schedule a meeting, where they'll no doubt ask us: "Mme Canqueteau-Land, is it compliance or complacency that you don't like specifically? • Compliance means actively following rules, even reluctantly, like meeting deadlines. • Complacency is sitting back, ignoring risks, and thinking, ‘It’s fine.’ But, tbh my bigger beef was with the comment that "we (as in adults? Former Olympians? Podcasters?) can take cyberbullying; but, that student athletes, who're adults themselves, cannot.
1) She barely did anything. It's weird that you noticed and even weirder that you timestamped it. 2) You don't know what it was about. Could've been family or job related which takes precedence. 3) wtf does that have to do with compliance? Is it some official USAG or Bridget podcasting rule? It doesn't affect your life in any way. It's fine. Calm down and stop typing, your royal highness.
Adults can handle criticism via social media, but kids/young adults (18-21) should not have to read horrible comments about them from the public. Cecile’s comment was don’t do that to the student / athletes.
WTH?? And who is GSU. Do you even know what you are talking about?
@@ChristianFitzpatrick-o5k 🤣 THAT PART!!!!
Well, done, Bridget! I loved hearing Jay’s origin story.
I loved what Jay said about leadership. I think that applies in life!
I cannot wait for all of the meet the teams coming up this coming week. I feel like this has been the longest off season.
Happy to have you back Bridget! Let's go, Season 3!
Woohooo it’s almost season!
Same here!!!
Can't wait
Suni's floor routine was my favorite!! I felt all the way deep into my soul, I loved it so much. As with you, I was so happy to get to see it again in the AA.
Love this podcast. Will you guys be doing a podcast on what’s happening with the complaint from Romania? Kathy thanks for the inquiry explanation
Rebeca is so queen.. she has a perfect balance between artistic and strenght. I really hope FIG does not loose its artistic side!
I could listen to you all day long... This was a great series girls, thank you for that!
I am the same kind of person as Kathy, I could sit and watch Suni Lee all day long :) Thanks for expressing your views on Hezly not being in the TF line-up and also Jordan and Suni AA qualification, and Suni making it and not Jordan, these were very wise comments.
Great commentary but it seems like Kathy talks too much and Bridget just says yeah. Give her a chance to talk too!
The 2nd Brit on AA final is Joe Fraser
LOL Bridget - cleaning with your Olympic medals 😂
Kathy! You are so on it, I’m w you. I’ve been in track and field heaven since gymnastics has concluded myself.
I was SO happy for suni! Don’t get me wrong I love Simone but suni has a special place in my heart ❤
I was literally so stressed out watching the last event finals. Wonderful and heartbreaking. Thank you both being fantastic with what you do.
FYI, the bow to Andrade was completely spontaneous! Right before Andrade stood the podium, Jordan said to Simone "showed we bow?" Also makes it beautiful that it was so genuine. Happy season 2 conclusion!
I still don't understand why it is one tenth for one foot out and three tenths for two feet out. The Math does not Math. Someone could go out of bounds with one foot six different times and get the same deduction as someone who bounces out with two feet twice, even if they were neat (a tiny hop say)? A big lunge could be two tenths better than a controlled bounce? That makes no sense. Never mind that there is already a penalty for the landing. I love Rebecca, and her routine was beautiful, but I don't think that overall routine (E + D) beat Simone's.
It has... rebeca is not only about strenght.. shes got artistic.. biles can have 14.8/15 and rebeca can score 14.5. Simple.
Yes! Bring the lunge back!!! Maybe they can get a bonus if they stick it but no deduction if they have a controlled lunge. It's so much prettier! I'm so with you Kathy!!
I believe this was the first beam podium Simone has missed out of 6 Worlds and 3 Olympics… and the first time she got less than gold on floor. Does anyone think that Simone’s extra long salute on floor, impacted her E score (yes I realize they should not) because it was a sassy response from beam directly to the judges.?
No there's no deduction for a long salute.
Love your channel and this episode. So happy for team usa mens and womens. All of our gymnasts were phenomenal in every way. Loved how much they supported each other and other teams throughout the competition. Hope you feel better soon.
Bridget I would love to hear you and an 08 teammate recount your team final competition! We can rewatch it but we want to know what really happened and not the NBC commentary version.
Thank you for clarifying the floor exercise FINAL for us, sharing your wisdom on INQUIRIES and how the F.I.G. Really needs to make a statement regarding the issues at that women’s FX final.
32:20 totally
I SHOUTED “OH MY GOD!” when Suni stayed in relevè on the double L turn. And I said the same thing when she did it, ‘That’s the best one she’s ever done.’ I thought I was the only one who noticed! She gave nothing to the judges to deduct in her dance…this is why continuing to perfect the dance elements matters so much!
They didn’t count the double L turn on floor though😭😭
Where were these judges seating? There were a few erroneous oob deductions hell it kept Drewell out of the all around. I’d be furious
It was great to see Brodie Malone being allowed to be on the competition surface to be an equipment set up person and watch his reactions to his teammates success. It was wonderful!
In regards to the women’s floor final (individual), I think gymnastics needs to show their scoreboard in a color coded way. For examples, in figure skating, the score board on TV would show a bunch of triangles representing each element. If it turns green, that indicates the skater completed the element. If its in yellow, that means that its in review, and if its red, that means there’s a deduction from a major mistake. However, I think gymnastics should adopt this idea but take adapt it to their sport for the public. The final standings should show a green triangle if the athlete’s score is rock solid for its placement- with or without any inquiries whether it was accepted or rejected. It shows a complete score. But if the athlete has a yellow or red triangle next to their name, that indicates that the score is in review. That way the athlete and public know what’s happening. But once the triangle turns green, that indicates all inquiries, whether there were any or not, have been reviewed. I think the judging needs to be more transparent in a live fashion instead of behind the scenes after the event is complete.
Good idea
😂😂😂😂 Russian broadcast for gymnastics simply shows the column with names of all the elements of the routine and during the performance is just marked . Or not marked . Extremely convenient
this should be called flipping out with Kathy
15:55 My junior high school also had gymnastics 🤸♀️ that was a small part of the rotation of sports for that year. My experience is similar to Kathy’s as we are about the same age. 👍
Bridget I wish you would make a comeback. You and Zmeskal had the best Piked Full Ins on Floor in the history of ever. Kathy, now I want to hear about your score change ??!!!
I love gymnastics, but I love love love all of T&F, swimming, basketball, rugby, tennis, soccer...and dressage. I'm ecstatic that flag football is coming for #LA28. I have to have other interests because gymnastics is way too subjective to be the only sport to hold my attention. Overall I have loved this berth. Women's gymnastics BB and FX finals leaves a lot to be desired. I do know that if Simone returns for #LA28 the IOC will be paying her royally. She certainly exited the floor with a substantially higher bargaining power than when she entered those two final events. Thrilled that both Jade and Jordan will be returning to college, though I'm not surprised. They never retired nor announced they were done, but merely abbreviated their college run to train for the Olympics.
Let's never take Simone for granted. It isn't Simone doing Simone things. She won 2 all around Olympic finals, and its like ho hum. That is unicorn stuff. Her Yurchenko double pike is a spectacular piece of gymnastics, she also works hard and has the weight of the world on her shoulders. It is expected for her to win, that can't be easy, but when she does win, its like ho hum, let's talk about the the other gymnasts more. Had she not won, she would have been raked over the coals, but her wins aren't really celebrated. No wonder she simply feels relief instead of feeling a sense of pride.
Excellent points.
Well stated.
My thoughts exactly. I think people will truly recognize Simone's phenomenal talent/achievements when she retires and the team (Worlds and Olympic) has to really try to win those gold medals without her.
Perfect statement. This really explains the pressure on Simone and just how we take her winning for granted. You nailed it.
The gymnastics started out so amazing and it sucks that it ended this way. The racism/hate Jordan is receiving is grotesque and I hope for her wellbeing it stops soon
she's a grown girl who sleeps in a wheelbarrow of money every night. She'll survive. Part of being a public figure is that not everyone will like you all the time. If she was savvy, she would have refused the medal so she did bring it on herself a bit.
@@MsJubjubbirdrefused the medal? She didn't even know what had happened, don't blame the gymnasts!
@@MsJubjubbird you are very daft!
@@MsJubjubbird Chiles didn't know at the time. She did find out later, and she still had an ironic post about Nadia being unable to be happy for her medal (Nadia was near the floor, saw what had happened, talked to the judges and was trying to get them to fix the error, thus supporting the Romanian gymnasts). It's obviously not Chiles' fault for the judging error that gifted her with an undeserved Olympic medal, but she could at least keep quiet about the matter.
@@MsJubjubbird so if you are talented and make smart financial decisions about your career in life, you deserve hatred and it’s no big deal and people are allowed to be racist to you and it’s just fine. You should just get over it because you have money, so it’s OK for people to say horrible things that they don’t understand at all because they know absolutely nothing about gymnastics. OK, got it. And I don’t think you understand gymnastics either. Why would she give a medal back that she earned? The judges messed up her score to begin with. They valued one of her skills during the team final first, and her coaches didn’t bother to get it changed because the US was far ahead and didn’t need the points, but in an individual competition, you should get your full points for doing those skills you have worked months and months to learn. Otherwise, she could have done an easier skill and gotten a lower score, but she worked for that more difficult skill and performed it perfectly. They downgraded one of her skills for what it was valued in the gymnastics code of points. they were giving it the wrong score. So when she was given the correct score as is in the code of points that those judges help write, along with the federation, she won the bronze medal. So why would she give back a medal when she actually did way harder and better gymnastics, and when it was the judges who couldn’t do the math correctly? It is them who should have to apologize to the gymnast who dropped down out of medal standings. If you knew anything about gymnastics, sadly, you would know that this is kind of common. So how is that Jordan‘s fault that the judges couldn’t do their job?
I have been waiting for this commentary since floor finals happened.
What an amazing resume ❤ live you both and I don't know what we will do without Kathy on future gymnastics broadcast. She is so clear, correct and also human ❤❤🎉🎉
So I was checking for this episode 2 days ago already! Shout out to Igor Radivilov from Ukraine also. He and Oleg Vernaiev (back in 2016 were offered a place on the Russian team (and some Ukrainians went) but Oleg and Igor stayed loyal to Ukraine, and they have never looked back. Illya is, of course a talent to be sure, but these men deserve recognition! Congratulations to the men and women that showed such great ability in Paris.
Jesus Christ . You totally butchered oleg’s name .
