Etiquette for rec games: -don’t purposely lob it when you know sun is shining in their faces -don’t hit drop shots against people with mobility issues -don’t constantly target a weaker player, especially if they are newer to the game -don’t call illegal serves unless they’re egregiously bad. -don’t over fret about disagreements on out balls. Just replay the point. Sure, if you do these things you might give yourself an advantage. But rec games are for casual fun. Not win at all cost. In tourney play, all bets are off.
You better believe that when money is involved in winning a match, etiquette rules are CRAP! If a lob goes into the sun, then oh well, you'll know to wear shades next time!
There are often “house etiquette rules” as well, like when there are people waiting, you play first to 9 pts instead of to 11, win by 2. When playing at a new place, along with introducing yourself, I suggest asking if there’s any special rules for the courts. Like stacking procedures, a challenge court, limitations if a lot of people are waiting, how to get a rematch with the same group without cutting in front of someone else in the stack, etc. That last one, along with the specifics of how we stack paddles at my usual spot has resulted in a few shouting matches. New people got confused and, instead of asking the simple question, “how does stacking work here?”, they took it as a personal attack and started yelling at people. The regular players involved were taken by surprise and got defensive, which escalated the situation too. If there was an assumption of good intent, it could’ve been explained in about 15 seconds.
I have watched many players on PICKLEBALL TV, making good money in pro pickleball, break pretty much all of these rules of etiquette! So much so, that this is more of a "wish list" of rules!
“But, but, what’ll happen if they sign up for a tournament and I didn’t teach them the rules in rec play?” 🤣🤣🤣 BTW, that was sarcasm. The rules nazi’s are out there. lol
Played with the Luxx recently and loved it, loved most how effortless it was to hit finesse shits at the kitchen like aggressive topspin dinks. Curious why you use it and what you like about it during high level Rec games/tournaments?
Don't bounce the ball more than once or twice prior to serving. I played against a guy who bounced it at least seven times yesterday, sometimes missing it and chasing it down -- then starting his ritual over again!
What do you think of this one. I'm down . The other team is serving. He calls the score 10 - 9 - 2 ???? Like a question. So I pause to verify the score. He serves, I'm thrown off and lose the game. Thought it was a dick move but had to move on
The one that I see often is avoiding the better player, I’ve been in games where the better player only touches the ball during serve and serve returns. Sad times. That and lobbing/dropshotting the old guy with back issues that can’t move every point 😑 i’m definitely not salty about these 😂
Coming from tennis, the one that irritates me the most is people either retrieving their ball from behind an active point or walking behind a court in play.
Tips on tip 6? I noticed I'm improving lately but still get upset whenever my partner cant step up his/her game . Especially is he/she is falling victim to the "aim for the weaker player " tactic.
Body bagging someone and hitting the ball and having it tip the net is all part of the game. That’s like in basketball if you cross someone over and they fall or if you hit the game winning 3 off the glass like it’s all part of the game. If you injured someone cuz you hit them in the face with the ball that’s one thing but if you hit them and get the point honestly I don’t think there needs to be an apology. Same thing with the ball touching the net and dropping its 100% unintentional but it’s still part of the game so no need for an apology in my opinion.
Ya but man we gotta get that out of the so called “etiquette” cuz it’s part of the game at the end of the day if I get body bagged or the opponent hits the ball off the net on me I’ll be the one to say nice shot I don’t think we need to apologize after hitting the ball off the net that’s just a good shot. Lucky, probably but still a good shot.
@pickleballplaybook Yes, I just mean that through my experience most times it's a person that has been playing a while that is the jerk. Not the beginner.
There is always that one guy! Everyone else is pretty chill. For anyone getting into any sport in the beginning there are etiquettes to the game. It can go both ways either they are accepting of the guidance or they blow it off.
how about this...don't be a twenty-something punk and walk onto a reserved court where 4 grown men are playing a point, and claim the court is your reservation time slot before checking the dang calendar to find out you've got the wrong date. SMH at GenZ pickleballers - sorry Austin.
@@pickleballplaybook definitely took it personal...here's actually how it went down. Punk: (opens gate and walks onto the court) "ugh, this is my court now..." Me: "Uh, no it's not." Punk: "It's court 3 right?" Me: "No, it's court 4." Punk: (walks over to court 3) "Ugh, this is my court now." Adult on Court 3: "Uh, no it's not." Punk: (checks app on phone) "shoot this is for tomorrow"...(apologizes to his group, never apologizes to adults on court 3 or 4, walks away surely ashamed yet seemingly still fully cocksure....hopefully gives up pickleball or phone apps or at least being the one in charge of court reservations).
Can we also include in the etiquette, if 4 grown adults get on the court without a ball and proceeds to ask a waiting player on the bench for a ball they can use, only to reject that ball because it's not a Franklin X40 or whatever their preferred one is. Have your equipment ready or be gracious for what you get. 1:32
first video I found that mentions not to coach & not to cheer opponent's mistake - such important points- thanks - using this for my students
I’ve been playing Pickleball for about six months now and I can honestly say someone has told me how to play just about every time
How annoying! Sorry to hear that

I’ve played with this guy before and he did half of these things to me. What a disrespectful hypocrite.
@@brendanbarbato257I’ll be sure to behave myself against you next time. Maybe.
Probably a good idea to not lose to a first time player too. Get practicing, old man.

Yeah it’s true! Can be tricky
5:50 only cheer if you do something good. Unlike Callie Smith that says “Come ON!” every time her opponent dumps it into the net.
Haha lots of these pros don’t have any sportsmanship!

Well said!
Is it good etiquette, in rec. play, to call your opponent's kitchen/serving foot faults?
No haha.

I love the feel at the line and the insane spin. It gives me the ability to keep my dinks in low and spiny to set up shots!
Solid 👏🏼
Thanks! 🙏

I’d catch the ball and have him reserve when I’m ready and not answering a question. 🤝
I always nod to confirm correct score calls, whether they're questioning or not. It confirms to the server that I'm ready, too.

All good stuff. Try not to yell F*ck! if you mess up. A lot of people don't like that. Ps: I want a slinger ball machine badly!!!

Is it bad etiquette to serve the ball hard with some spin, when you know the opposing player most likely isn't going to be able to return it?
Depends on the situation I’d say. What’s the specific situation?
Read the room. If you’re doing that to grandma, you’re a dick… and yes I’m assuming you’re a dude. Never seen a woman do that. 😃
@@pickleballplaybook That like the game is almost over, so to just end it. Like one point to go.

I agree!
Rolling the ball to me is very NOT appreciated. I gotta bend down to pick it up
Someone’s got to bend down to get it. Either way each team is bending over to pick it up when it’s their turn to serve
I find that a lot of people that have been playing for a while are the jerks.
There are definitely a few jerks every now and then. But for the most part, everyone’s pretty awesome
@pickleballplaybook Yes, I just mean that through my experience most times it's a person that has been playing a while that is the jerk. Not the beginner.
