    Those steps look amazing. Definitely an upgrade worth spending the money for. Excellent job explaining the process.

      Thank you! I could not agree more. Although I was fortunate enough to have the company send these to me for free this is definitely an upgrade I would’ve made on my own. Great product works and looks incredible.

    Received the Airstream X8001 receiver hitch within 4 days....very nice quality and heavy duty. All the parts were accounted for, and instructions were clear with pictures to show you how each piece fits together. The hitch is heavy so having two persons makes it a little easier to install. But I was able to install by myself with a little ingenuity and mechanical skill set. It is somewhat tricky drilling the 9/16" holes due to uneven edges in the center of the frame. It took me 2 hours start to finish. I touched up all the bolts with black paint to match the hitch and it looks like it came from the factory like that.

      That’s great to hear!!! Definitely outstanding quality and easy install with just a little basic knowledge. Glad your install went smoothly

    Ya may want to do some research on the airstream front end separation issue. Not sure I’d load much at all on rear end.

      Fortunate I have not had any issues myself. I have the hitch on there, but I have yet to use it for anything. The only thing I might use it for would be either a spare tire rack or maybe a small bike rack.

      De-ends on the year of the trailer. They started adding a bracket and braces to the front. If you see extra rivets above the door then it has it otherwise it will separate at some point even if it’s not doing it now.

    They make a 3 step as well. Do you ever feel like you need 3 steps?

    • @WhyNotRV
      @WhyNotRV  8 місяців тому +1

      Not at all. With an airstream that is lifted up both with a 3 inch lift and bigger wheels and tires. I’ve never been in a situation yet where I needed a third step.

    Your rear bumper protecting “C” channels were bent. The new hitch framing hung down lower than those bent bumper protecting “C” channels. You should consider lifting your Airstream 3” to prevent damage to your new hitch.

      One of the first things I did when I got this airstream was the 3” lift. Also put on bigger tires for another 1/2”-1”

    How has the Torklift hitch receiver performed? I want a bolt-on hitch receiver for my Airstream to mount a two-bike rack. A few comments in other forums indicate Airstream dealers discourage installation of hitch receivers claiming they could damage the Airstream's frame or cause bike/cargo rack failure due to excessive vertical loads from bouncing.

      I wish I could give you a more definitive opinion. I have not used my hitch back there yet. Although when I do, it will be for my bikes to go onto. I am not concerned about it at all.

      We haul or e-bikes the way about 60 lbs. each without battery installed. We attach the Kuat 2.0 bike rack to the hitch. We have traveled about 1500 miles (mountain roads and some rough conditions included) with the bikes and have had no issues. We can see the bikes from our rear camera they do move and bounce some but as long as you secure them properly they ride fine. Advise make sure you get a quality bike rack.
