"They Created A Shoplifter's Charter" - Peter Bleksley FURIOUS Over 1.1m 'Five Fingered Discounts'

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- Shoplifting in the UK has reached record highs, with over 1.1 million reported incidents in the past year alone. Repeat offenders account for 63% of these thefts.
In response, the government plans to introduce mandatory sentencing and facial recognition software to catch thieves.
Supermarket Waitrose has also stated that it will offer free coffees to police officers to deter shoplifters. However, police often refuse to attend thefts below a certain amount, and social media can encourage looting. Shopkeepers report seeing items being stolen daily, but many thefts go unreported due to the lack of police action and the verbal abuse staff can face.
The government's proposals have received mixed responses, with concerns about prison overcrowding and invasion of privacy. The Association of Convenience Stores calls for improved reporting and investigation of crime, as well as adequate penalties for offenders.
Former Met detective Peter Bleksley criticizes the police for not taking action on lower value crimes and suggests reallocating resources to address this issue.

Has the Government failed on crime?
They have failed on everything.
The government never had it controlled anyway.
stupid question - YES!
Yeah, 10 or so years ago..
Its been encouraged to facilitate facial identification .just reclassify shop lifting as hate crime .
Facial recognition? They all wear masks. More excuse for control 🙄
That recognition tech will be used against anyone that says and does things against the regime.
Exactly what I thought as well when I hear ,,facial recognition”. They all wear bloody masks!! Obviously you don’t need to be a genius to understand that this is just an excuse to police the law abiding citizens. The government creates the problem then they come up with these ,,solutions”….funny no?

Facial recognition. Mission creep. Soon it will be facial recognition for all. For your ‘safety’. Welcome to the social credit system.
You need to re read your post. The "facial recognition" IS for all as it will include everyone. The authorities already have all our faces recorded as the police have been recorded in the street and outside stations and stadiums for years.
It's already here, if you have a smart phone it'll read your face every time you open it, the newer programming can even read your mood & the algorithm will send suggestions to manipulate you. This data is all stored & shared for profit. While I share your sentiment completely, the horse left the barn along time ago & we slept walked into it.

I've worked in retail 14 years here in the u.k and the last 2 years shoplifting has gone mad. As staff it's not in our contract to be security, we are not allowed to get physical with shoplifters as we will be sacked, and managers and the police are not interested. There is no real deterrent to shoplifters. Might as well have a large sign on the window saying come in and take what you want.
Stay out of it i had to come to the aid of a stab victim it wasn't a nice sight the victim spent a week in intensive care but was okay in the end
@@yerhan1572 earlier this year I caught 2 shoplifters, both had knives and said they would stab me, I just walked away from them. The store manager and the police did nothing.
I work in retail. We know most local offenders by sight and will tell them to leave if we see them attempting to enter the shop however once they're in we usually watch walk out with what they like. Not allowed to stop or touch them and wouldn't want to either.

Spot on they have removed security guards, no staff on tills , they created this problem to bring in facial recognition to track us every were we go
Not going to work well when many wear masks.
For that to work, the govt would have to BAN all types of face coverings!

Not good news for small shops either who can’t afford that sort of tech or security
You have several people coming in to a small shop and stealing £100 - that's their profit wiped out and they go out of business - time to name and shame whoever put this forward as a policy and then let the criminals know. Looks like we have gone the same way as Democrat cities in the US. Clamping down on what may be deemed "low level" crime will stop some from graduating to more serious crime.
There is a firm in Cornwall called Trago Mills. I don't know if they still do, as we must not offend the poor, desperate, hard done by scum, but they used to have a large name and shamed board in their stores of people who had been caught stealing. The Police did nothing when my car was stolen 2 years back, just gave me a crime number and that was it. I'd worked my butt off to pay for that car, it was an old 2010 Ford Fiesta that was written off in the end and worth little but it was mine and i loved it and was better for the environment than the car i have now. I now have a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe car after 2 years in a Kia Picanto someone lent me (i'm 6ft3) as i can't afford anything better, that I'm punished for driving in Fuel Duty, Vehicle Excise Duty and Birmingham's Clean Air Zone. All because some scrot went on a joyride.
did you report it after the crime or whilst it was in progress? if after the fact then the chance of your vehicle being found is so slim as it will already be on cloned plates or in a lockup being dismantled...
@@johnjong7001 It was taken the early hours of the morning (4.00am according to video footage). I ended up tracking it down myself via Facebook Groups, took two days but had been abandoned 5 miles away, wrecked with parts missing. Police recovered it once the person who reported it to me reported it to them) I was not aware they could steal cars without the key at the time (keyless entry and start).
They are doing this deliberate like in the states , so every where you go you will have to show your face to enter, and they will have security guards to make sure you comply , track n trace your movement, 🙈
No way should staff be involved they are on low wages anyway its the job of the police, also the perpetrators possibly carry knives
I was threatened twice earlier this year in a shop I worked at, they both had knives and said they would stab me. Shop manager and police done fxxx all about it.
Shoplifters can just wear masks to hide their faces
The problem today is that there seems to be no shame in being caught stealing. I remember as a teenager in the 70s being worried about anyone thinking I may be shoplifting, something I would not and have never done, but I remember very occasionally seeing someone being walked to a police car and the looks they would get. I would hold my goods out in front of me and make it clear I was looking for the pay point. Today I still get my receipt so I can show I have paid - my Mum instilled it in to me, to always get a receipt - today many people don't bother with a receipt in many supermarkets. I recently resigned form my job in a food store, in part because of the increase in shoplifting and I felt unsafe, something I had never felt until this year.
Well said .
All this softly softly approach is all back firing...reap what you sow!!
Facial recognition when they are all masked up unbelievable.
Years ago the shops use to prosecute the shop lifters and it was handed the police the police won’t take action over 2.00 pounds because it cost more to take them to court for a conviction what an example to set for the next young children of British generations

Absolutely yes. 👍
This will solve nothing , the army and especially the RAF are as weak and woke as any other company around , all you will do is teach offenders to handle deadly weapons better,
The government and the police are to blame
Supermarkets got rid of tons of staff, (part of the reason for ever bigger profits!) so with a huge store, it's almost impossible to keep an eye on customers! (Can you find one, when you have a question?), and also brought in self-service checkouts with no humans around. They basically brought all this on themselves, because of greed!
The fact that they have cut back on staff is no excuse for the looting that is going on. And I must admit that I find you justifying it as ludicrous.
Make our prisons like they are in America a place you don't want to end up in
Sounds like I am better off in South Africa where I am🤣
In the usa it is over $1000, so one shopkeeper added $1000 to the price of every item and discounted it at the till. 😂 So he could prosecute all shoplifters.
we were burgled and the police eventually caught him as he was a repeat offender from poland and then immediately bailed him to appear at station daily-after 2 days he has disapeared again-this is crime at its best
Peter is awesome!
It's absolutely mind blowing, what sort of society is being created when this is tolerated and what's even more concerning for me is the longer it goes on for, you can only imagine the future when the people doing the pinching are parents if they aren't already, a frightening thought.
The people doing the real pinching are living in palaces and castles and luxury apartments and mansions 💩🇬🇧💩🇬🇧💩🇬🇧
It was the Tories who cut police numbers- don't forget that .
Hegelian Dialectic at work here. Nobody wants Facial Recognition but they are going to force it by allowing this to continue to the point the public will be begging for it.
They want facial recognition; like the chinese state. Of course the public will side with the idea of facial recognition, if re-offending is happening and the criminals are getting their way, because police won't intervene. Not good. And facial recognition is against our rights for privacy, we had well structured policing before.. It's a lot of ballocks. if police, won't intervene on a value less of £200, the problem isn't that we need surveillance and or facial recognition.
Thank you America for this vitally important import.
More cultural enrichment.
How about the radical idea of the police and judiciary doing their job?
It is not just the supermarkets that are suffering shop lifting! l am part of a small group of crafters that have a pop-up shop in a coastal village in Cornwall, this year l have had more items stollen of of my small craft table this summer than l have over the ten plus years of the pop-up, these are not drug addicts or poor people! these are tourists that have come to Cornwall for their holidays. It seems to be the way society is heading, it is a sad country we are now living in, no respect or fear of being caught
I had to close my fashion shop down because more was being stolen than sold
In my state every shop lifting crime is reported and the police arrest the first time it doesn’t matter how much or little the item is worth. It does matter with the charges however, under a certain value is a lesser charge.
I got mugged years ago " and when I phoned the police they said I am sorry , but there is no witnesses .
So I phoned the local hard guy and I got my tabs (cigarettes) and wallet all back , within half an hour , so I give him £25 for his trouble ,which is a lot cheaper than what it would of cost , if the police had got involved and I went to court to pay a solicitor months later and I wouldn't have got my tabs and money back either
With mask mandates coming back, is facial recognition software really much of an answer?
They're all close soon you see, then what will the UK do...plus cop's never turn up till the shop's been robbed lol

The concept of shops where you browse and select will have to finish. Argos, Screwfix etc, you place your order, pay, and collect, and all shops will either have to do that, or go back to counters.
