    Great video. I needed to see this for the opposite problem. Previous owners lowered my truck all the way. The boot is resting on the frame, you can imagine how soft it is when I hit a small bump.... Gotta get under there and lift it back up

    Hey Nathan, great video as usual! Have you considered finding some f-100 front fenders to shrink the wheel opening considerably? It would definitely look lower and more proportional to those tires!

    Since you’re leaving the bar that the adjustment bolt goes to in place, do you need to use a torsion bar unloading tool? Or since leaving it in place holds the tension still, it’s not necessary?

    Hey, nice video. I just broke my upper control mounted on chessis. What could be the reason? Does over size shocks can do harm Or over tighten Torsion bar?

  • @j.c.smithprojects
    @j.c.smithprojects 7 років тому +9

    i think you will find removing that much tension from the bars might make the front end extremely soft and not handle well at all. dont forget you are creating negative camber and changing the caster angle. with dropping the front that much, i am not sure if there is enough adjustment in the control arms to bring it back to specs. no planes this time? i would look into drop spindles as a possible better solution. caster and camber wouldnt change. handling would be very close to factory.

    • @NathansGarage
      @NathansGarage  7 років тому +2

      In the next week I'll drive her to check the handling. There's actual;;y a ton of adjustment in the front suspension for things like camber & caster. If I like how it handles I'll get it aligned & see if it can be brought to within spec.

    • @MrAllinclubs
      @MrAllinclubs 7 років тому +3

      they also sell camber caster bolt kits that are pretty cheap to help adjust alignment.

  • @dracosdiabolis1769
    @dracosdiabolis1769 7 років тому +1

    wonder if they make drop spindles for a mountaineer or match up the parts to something that will work. just a thought. in conjunction with this vodeo to really get her low. and your right about the wheel wells. their huge. their more like tubs. but you can stuff some reallu wide tires in there to fill it up.

    not recommended to grind a socket. use a paint pen or sharpie. now the socket had a perfect place to crack if over torqued

  • @robertphillips4616
    @robertphillips4616 7 років тому +6

    I used 2" drop torsion keys on mine. That way you can still have some tension on the front end. You might find after driving it that the front end is very soft now.

    to go lower you can often clock the torsion bar on the lever arm or bottom control arm

    • @NathansGarage
      @NathansGarage  7 років тому +2

      Yeah if it's too soft I may well clock them.

  • @tainchains
    @tainchains 10 місяців тому

    Someone said on an 05 Colorado that in order to lower it you need to put spacers between the front differential and the frame. Does that sound correct? Its a front tosion bar setup on a 4x4

    kool thank you for your video. i wanted to know how many turns it would take for me to lower 1 inch on my 85 isuzu pick up. but it may be different and ill have to try it before i go to the full 6 turns. ill try a 5 turn and see where it lands. Would all torsion bar lowering be the same or different???

    • @kobeburns9880

    I weld the keys under the crossmember , lowers the pork chop even lower, I've done this on 4x4 s10 blazers with no issues with 4wd

    • @SirGuidemere91
      @SirGuidemere91 3 роки тому +1

      Hello, lowering the keys like this without removing the retaining plate? Does that mean I wouldn’t need a torsion unloading tool since tension would be held by the plate? Thank you

    • @MiyamotoMusashi9
      @MiyamotoMusashi9 3 роки тому +1

      @@SirGuidemere91
      I used a C clamp to lift the pork chop off of the bolt, removed the threaded plate , welded it ,exact spot only under the cross member, instead of in the cross member , all while front is jacked up from ground . This will be too low for 4x4 you will need to put the bolts back in to push back up on the porkchops

    • @MiyamotoMusashi9
      @MiyamotoMusashi9 3 роки тому

      So squeeze the porckchop up, remove the retain plate weld it below and put bolt back in for desired ride height, might need longer bolts

    • @MiyamotoMusashi9
      @MiyamotoMusashi9 3 роки тому +1

      I guess I meant I lower the plate location allowing the keys to turn downward more . Pretty simple if you can weld .

    • @NathansGarage

      Caolán McDonnell I don’t think so. If the 306 is anything like the old VW Bug you may have to take the trailing arms off and clock them on the torsion bar splines. Definitely give it a dose of Googling to get your answer though.
