- When you break the key off in your ignition, it's hard not to react in a very real and primal way. Afterwards, you have to deal with the fallout. I purchased a push button ignition switch from DK Custom Products and installed it with no big hiccups. This is my How To Install a Push Button LED Ignition Switch by DK Custom Products video.

I watched this video, read the instructions and did the install, here are my tips: *My mechanic-skill level is 2.5 wrenches out of 5 wrenches..I'm not dumb but definitely a beginner when it comes to repairs and electrical. I usually have a mechanic on standby or somewhere to take my bike if I bo-jangle the repair and need help, consider lining this up before you start. The directions from DK Customs were very helpful, but I have these suggestions for you: **Pull the main fuse, read through all the directions before starting.
1. When/if shaving the ignition housing to make room for the push button, realize the button is round and the stock cavity is square/rectangle, so make room for a round part and don't just use a flat file the same width as the threads from the push button.
2. Have available LONG needle nose pliers. I didn't have these but did have long nose mini vice grips which worked just as good.
4. Cut 2" from the original ignition. In the above video he cut right at the ignition, leaving zero chance of reconnecting the old ignitions if necessary.
5. When connecting the wiring, read and follow the instructions, they are detailed and easy to understand.
6. Use blue thread locker (as manual states) Harley's shake, you will want to secure the nut to back of the housing and know it's not going pop off, same for the mount to the bike, thread lock that part also.
Message DK if you have problems, he actually answers VS other manufactures.
The intro has me laughing my ass off dude. It’s not what you said, it’s how you said it 🤣🤣 cool video though man.
That's raw emotion!
My key also broke off when I relocated the ignition. There is just too much vibration in the areas that are common to relocate to. A strong magnet might have retrieved it but I just left it and used a pocket knife to turn the ignition on. Same effect as this push button option but without any further work or cost. I made sure to keep my spare key with me just incase the broken part rattled it's way out.
That's actually a great idea. I replaced my push button ignition with a new key ignition and will steal your idea if the key breaks again. Thank you!
@@RightThingMotos Been looking at the button as a cool little farkle. What made you go back to a keyed ignition?
@@BowserFilm My bike stalled in the Lincoln tunnel and a mechanic recommended I go back to keyed ignition with fatter wires.
First 10 seconds of video "oh fuck my ass"😂😂😂
Hahahaha! You get real reactions on this channel.
Is there any key fob for it or anyone can start ?
So I’m wondering, what about the ability for anybody to steal your bike with that system? Seems to me that without a key system anyone can just start your bike up and go on their way.
Somebody could easily steal your bike for sure. I'd recommend using a lock if you're going to park it out of sight.
If bike does not require a fob then yes theft could be a problem. However, most people including thieves won't understand the bike could start (if no fob required)
Hi, nice video. When you tested it before the tidy up the LED ring did not light up, however once it was tidy it worked. What did you change? Was it unearthed better? Cheers
Hey Doug, to be honest I don't remember what I did exactly. It's possible the LED was on but harder to see because of the light in the garage. Once it was attached, it may have just been in a darker place and you could see it better.
What happens if you accidently push it to the open position while riding. Will the bike shut off?
Damn, that sounds like an awful scenario! I'm guessing it would shut off.
Love the video this is actual DYI TYPE WORK WITH WHAT U GOT not like other channels showing 300 dollers worth of tools ur like fook it file LOL love it true DIY
Hahahaha, that's how I do all of my projects! Thanks so much!
Did I miss it? What year is this bike and is it can/bus?
It's a 2013 XL883N.
you can still have the key as part of the system as a kill switch.
Tell me more. How can the Key-ignition also be used.
Does it come with a proximity key?
No, unfortunately, it does not. I did get a very nice disc lock for it though.
@@RightThingMotos gotcha.
Congrats, good job!
Thank you!
It looks nice but if u park ur bike anywhere unattended whats gonna happen? Anyone can just start ur bike 🤯
That's a good point. I bought a disc lock and that's helped my anxiety about the bike getting stolen. I've also switched back to a keyed ignition at this point as well.
What brand is that ??
DK Customs
Is it water resistant ?
Yes it is!
That’s exactly what I would have said too! Lmao
Sometimes the truth can't help but escape your lips.
Really nice I like the mod
Thanks! Yeah, it's really growing on me.
Very funny video btw.
The humor is definitely in the tragedy at the start of this one.
@@RightThingMotos I would be devastated too. Us Ducati owners would be fucked even more because we have immobilizers on our bikes. 😕
You could have trimmed the wires to have less to hide
I should have done that but I wasn't sure if I'd have to go in and fix some things afterwards.
Wiring seem to be poor for this simple china made button.
Current draw may melt that switch
And theft will be just easier.
A DEI proximity fob may work better
Yeah, the switch broke after a few uses and couldn't draw enough power to regularly start. I was left stranded a few times.
@@RightThingMotos How many months were you able to work this switch? And did DK Customs do you right? Enjoy your videos and explanations.
Dk customs rip you off
Yeah, I actually had to eliminate this setup all together because it was messing with my power supply.
@@RightThingMotos the switch cause electrical issues ?
@@kevinquinn8632 It did mess up my electrical system and my bike wouldn't start despite replacing the battery. The issue is that the cables are too thin on the push button unit making it harder to draw enough power to start.
