I think the main idea of astro is that they can sing anything. They always try different genres and looks and nail it. You should see the difference between their 2 latest comebacks that's "one" and "after midnight" they always switch things up. They also sing really beautiful ballads, heartbreak songs and love songs. They have songs for every feeling and every interest. I think their versatility is really cool

ASTRO is 100% known for their great harmonies and synchronized dancing. Their early concepts were when the youngest member was underage, so they are very cute and adorable... and cheesy. When that member turned 20 they really started doing mature songs, starting with "All Night" - a bit - and particularly "Blue Flame". Their latest stuff, including "Bad Idea" by the Moonbin & Sanha sub-unit, is really mature and different from their early stuff... but their most recent single "After Midnight" kind of has that fun, bright, vibe from their earlier albums without the cheesiness.
I'd definitely recommend their Always You, Knock, and One comebacks for a darker sound, plus the unit release Bad Idea! A lot of their bsides are also really great at showing off vocals, for instance you might like Because it's You, 12 Hours, Bloom, and Stardust because they all have that melancholic feel you talked about in the video.

In regards to their concept as a group, they're frequently referred to as a refreshing idol group, and I think this is best represented in their music as well as their group dynamics. Personally, whenever I listen to Astro music it feels like coming home to a friend. Someone who supports and loves you, and will always try and be by your side.
Their discography, while most think has been a result of trying to appeal to the general public (especially as they shifted towards more mature concepts), can also be attributed to the growth and development of the group.
2016 Seasons: In some ways, this represented the groups earlier innocence and their excitement to get to know their fans (e.g. first love, young and innocent)
Hide and Seek, Breathless, Confession, Should've Held On (One of two forgotten eras, I don't think this comeback got promoted because this was the start of the Fantagio company troubles)
2017 Dream Series: This period has a somewhat, cool tone to it. It's definitely taken aspects from the final seasons album (Winter Dream) and explores the notion of finding one's ideal lover (in a way?) It's a more mature take on the emotions experienced in the beginning of a relationship
Baby, Crazy Sexy Cool
2018: Hiatus --> longing for someone who has left you, and understanding why but wishing they didn't
Always You (second of the forgotten eras) --> This is where Astro took an 8-month hiatus due to problems in the company; they lost a lot of fans (particularly internationally and to some degree domestically. The reason they didn't fall completely off is due to Eunwoo's efforts in his dramas. This is a pretty emotional period for older fans since most of the members started experiencing doubts about the group: You can see their thoughts on this time in their Astroad at the end of 2018 I'm pretty sure)
2019: Fantasy-esque period
All Night and Blue Flame (I know most older fans didn't enjoy Blue Flame, however in my opinion these two comebacks are counterparts of each other. It celebrates spending time with the person you love, and describes the longing? hotness? desire? at this time)
2020: I'm not too sure how I title this period; Astro again had a sort of lull in releases
Knock and Bad Idea (Moonbin&Sanha subunit)
- Knock talks about coming to newer fans (The album is titled Gateway, and I think imo, it sort of celebrates how Eunwoo is the gateway for newer fans to explore Astro)
- Bad Idea (This is definitely the most sexy mature concept for Astro; I remember a Vlive where Sanha commented that because of Moonbin's interest in exercise and bulking up his body, he was worried Binnie wouldn't fit in their refreshing concept anymore lol)
2021: Celebration of Astro and Aroha
ONE and After Midnight (Both talk about the strength of being with the people you love --> ONE makes a clear statement that Astro and Aroha are in this journey together (could also be seen as Astro emphasising OT6) and After Midnight describes how you can feel recharged despite spending all night with someone you love (I personally think Eunwoo wrote this thinking about Astro))
Regardless of how most people view them, I think Astro deserves praise for their immense support and love for each other, and how this chemistry is visible in every part of what they produce (Music Videos, DDOCA and Astro play, performances and in variety shows), as well as their resilience. :)
And overall, I love Astro's transition from cutesy refreshing to mature refreshing. I remember Jinjin (?) commenting how he wants Astro to be a long-lasting group: being able to withstand periods of uncertainty while spending lots of time with their fans and together!
I personally love Astro's B-sides: Innocent Love, Morning Call, When you Call my Name, You're my world, Our Spring (Mainly their ballads and Debut Astro-esque pop songs)

Your reaction is so interesting! Astro has matured really well and naturally over the years, so the change makes sense. When/if you watch the blue flame performance, pls note that due to health issues, Moonbin (the one you apparently liked the most, w the pink hair in all night) is not present. There is one performance w the six of them of that song tho, so maybe that'll be more of your taste. About melancholic songs, try and give "Again" a listen (or watch the choreography video, its amazing). It doesn't have an MV but its an amazing song.

Grape's reaction to Astro and namely Jinjin was exactly my response to Astro the first time I found them (Blue Flame was the first time I saw them). Like mouth open in shock and awe and LOVING the visuals especially Jinjin and Moonbin. (I think Grape is stanning on Bin!) I can't wait until he sees all of them in "One".
They are known to be the refreshing idol group so in the beginning they had bright cheerful happy MVs (B-sides ballads tho are mwah 😘!) especially since they still had 2 minors during Baby and Crazy Sexy Cool but concepts matured as they matured as well, so All Night happened. They r still known to be the refreshing group but more mature refreshing now. Don’t get me wrong they still own cute concepts on stage like When You Call My Name and All Good but their ballads give me goosebumps from their first album. I’m proud of their growth but maintain their color, vibe, sound. I’m glad u started somewhat from the beginning so u can see their growth. Thank you for this! I expected the shock in expression with the change from Baby to All Night to Blue Flame 😂

If you would watch from 2015 to 2021 videos pf them they always speak about Arohas and they have helped Arohas when we were bullied by other fandoms and they have actually spoke with the entertainment to help us. The entertainment they came from is only small and low key but their manager and entertainment are very caring and really gives importance to them and the supporters. Astro always leaves good pointers to Arohas, thats why Aroha is the most peaceful fandom and the most respectful of all. Also Astro could be a role model to young ones because they treat each other with respect and support and love each other. Most imp their humor is so hilarious. They really have great personalities and aside from singing and dancing EACH of them are very multitalented. This group is worth to stan they have saved many rotten lives, im one of those, im a mom of two and separated. Ive been through a lot i discovered them last year and voila 2015-2021 videos were watched (mvs, reality shows, movies, dramas, interviews, commercials etc)

Basically, all of them are visuals and actors. They are from Fantagio Entertainment (the same company as weki meki and hello venus). As Fantagio is an acting company they all are really good actors and have a lot of dramas together and individually. They started really cute but have matured over the years. (Because the maknae of the group was 15 and also most of them weren't even 20 when they debuted so most of their earlier stuff till 2017-18 is cute and they started the mature stuff from 2018-19 but are really doing very good. Astro is pretty popular in Korea and internationally too. When they started they won lots of awards, the company was in bad condition in 2018 but they gained their popularity in 2019 again. I hope you react to Astro more and more!!

But as they grow, their songs became mature and sexy but still refreshing. For me, they have a unique musicality in kpop. They don't take after the usual sound of kpop. And that is another reason why I fell in love with them. There's this one article said that ASTRO is a genre. Please check out their ballads and acoustics, those are good impressive songs. ASTRO's Debut ALBUM was Spring Up, they debut on 23rd Feb,2016.They have 6 members-MJ,Jinjin,Cha Eun-woo,Moonbin,Rockey and Yoon Sanha.They are from Fantagio Music.And they are the best.
The reason there was a sudden change in their concepts, was because they waited till the maknae became an adult... Tbh I love that they didn't rush into a more mature concept, because you can really see the growth they had with their music... Also how they grew with their music

Haha, I laughed out loud when you said you were hoping they would do a darker/sexy concept, and then immediately said, "Up next is All Night..."
I honestly adore all of Astro's many concepts. Early on, they did almost exclusively bright and chipper songs as their title tracks. Crazy Sexy Cool was actually the first one that wasn't more along the lines of Baby, and it was nicer to have a more mature sound from them at the time (though compared to, say, Blue Flame, it does seem a lot less so now). There's something very refreshing about a group that isn't afraid to wholeheartedly embrace fun and happiness to its fullest, and Astro does that so well.
I also sympathize on the Jinjin/Moonbin front. Jinjin was my first bias in Astro, and I was very secure in that....right up until I saw them live, and Moonbin just freaking killed me. He's got this magnetism that is hard to explain, and I just cannot get over it
I notice that between this and your part two you didn't get to Always You, which I think would be right up your alley, provided you haven't heard it outside of your reaction videos yet. It's been one of my favorites since the moment I first heard it!

You should have followed their timeline so you see them grow up gradually plus there was an mv " always you" when they came back after hiatus due to their company being in shambles it was dedicated to aroha ...well that was an era where they definable matured personally and professionally too
They were trained in iteen as an angsty group but debuted with extreme cute/ refreshing concept with "breathless" well that matched with their age cause most of them were highschool students and then cameback with "hide and seek" as highschool students and then "confession " as young boys like falling in love and stuff abd then baby then "crazy sexy cool" was them with young adult aura and then they went on histus and came back with a bang with always you ... which was very emotional time for everyone and then they won their first ever win with ALL NIGHT and since then they've been growing and growing 🥰
They also have a sub unit with MOONBIN and sanha
