Hi fellow Illinois, 5b, gardener! UA-cam auto-played your video as I was actually winter-sowing flowers in my basement - mostly perennials. I've Winter-sowed for several years now with wonderful success, and gardened for decades, and I also use succession planting as a strategy to maximize and extend the harvest and pleasure of our garden. I wanted to caution you that succession sowing doesn't work when WS'ing. The daisies I planted tonight will come up at roughly the same time as the ones I put out a few weeks ago; and if I sow them again at the end of February, they'll still ALL come up about the same time, because WS'ing takes advantage of the wisdom of seeds knowing when conditions are right to germinate. I'd encourage you to plan your 2nd succession for after your current plantings begin to germinate. (Oh, and just today I learned that a moistened toothpick is very effective for planting miniscule seeds, like snapdragons.
Thank you so much for your advice, and experienced knowledge. I would have found all that out by just doing it....so I will plant up everything I want in the 1st cut and wait for the rest...You are awesome...Thank you!!
My understanding is no fertilizer is needed I have never used it personally in any of my winter sowed containers..also from a personal experience for our zone 5 January seemed to not be good to me time to WS my seeds..I didn’t have a great success rate with the seeds germinating so hopefully you get better results then I did..I would like to say that WS asparagus and strawberry seeds were a huge success..looking forward to seeing your results.

Thanks for the feedback!!
Thanks. I will try some without fertilizer.
FYI. It’s sowing seeds, not sewing. No disrespect intended. Just thought you would want to know.
Hahaha..thanks for catching my mistake...
