The War of Jenkins Ear is an obscure event in Colonial American history but it featured some of the most colorful characters (such as Captain Lawrence Washington, George Washington's older, half brother whom young George idolized) and colorful events of the entire colonial period. This video explains the War of Jenkins Ear which began in 1739 using maps and discussion.

The battle of Cartagena was one of the most humiliating battles of that time ,As Vernon arrival to Cartagena and see the enemy forces, immediately send a ship to England with the news , Cartagena was falling.
With over 30 000 soldiers, close to 200 ships face a force of les that 4000 Spaniards including 600 indigenous archers under the command of Blas de Lezo ( nick name half a man , because in different previous battles lost an eye , arm and a leg )
Vernon could not take Cartagena and lost around 20 000 man and several ships.
It took him two years to get back to England were all the coins made about his victory had to be destroyed.
