Frank awesome series! About to build a drum on my channel and I had a question for you. Could you leave it with the rust and hit the outside with a high temp clear coat?? I was going to try to do a rust patina on my drum
Question bro, building offset smoker with two drums. On my fire drum... Does my damper have to be opposite of my vent duct into the smoker? Or can it be 90 degrees? Damper on front, vent port on left.
Hey buddy, I’m not entirely sure what you were asking. The smokestack on a traditional offset just needs to be on the opposite end of your main cooking chamber from your firebox. You can see a bunch of diagrams on our website at smokerplans.net
Hey Frank, thanks for the video! When burning the barrel , do I need to remove most of the original paint from the outside? The burn removed the lower third but the upper still has origanal paint (under the black film). Tried using a plumber blow torch but I'll still be at it in 2022 if I carry on!!
You actually do not need to get 100% of the paint off the outside. I mostly am concerned with the liner on the inside. the outside can be sanded and then painted over.
Best painting music ever.
Thank you for the good info Frank!
Thanks buddy! We enjoy making these videos for everyone.
That's a pretty cool trick Frank how you make that paint go back into that can like that, lol

Yep absolutely!
Clear coat works great but I prefer boiled linseed oil also
Right on man 😎

Serious question: I bought a barrel that was used to store mineral spirits. Could I use this one for smoking? I’ve burned it twice already.
Cómo puedo hacer una tapa con la misma tapa del tambo quiero hacer un hielera solo q el mío es un tambo small
don't need to cover hole and dumper, to prevent painting inside?
well, obviously not....you don't cover, but why doesn't matter? thank you frank, greetings from italy
@@cristiano6682 I never have but it wouldn't hurt to do it. I would mask it off from the inside.
Do you need to cure it with heat?
depends on the paint, read the instructions on the can.
Can I use a barrel with oil was stored in as long as I burn it out the same way
Yes you can as long as it is an open head barrel.
Hey Frank, do I need a heat resistance paint for a uds, thnx
Not necessary
So you used one can primer and three cans of paint?
Hey buddy! so I actually used 3 cans of primer and 5 cans of paint
Don't use mineral spirits or thinner... why not?
They leave a oily film. That is why it is best to use windex or xylene.
Still waiting on the finished product 🙄
LOL! It's coming buddy! We have lots more coming! 🍺
