This truly was the golden age of BMX. Just look how excited everyone was seeing someone going for a whip transfer, an abubaca and a backflip, seeing it in grainy VHS recording just makes it even more atmospheric. I must have watched at least one of the Dorkin' videos every day for the best part of 7 or 8 years and Dave was always there, at the top of the game. You can keep your triple front flips, your skinny jeans, drone angles and instant social media exposure. Nothing will compare to the excitement of getting a print copy of Ride and seeing photos of what people were doing and then travelling to see it all first hand and being caught up in all the excitement. I can't think of many other riders that encapsulated this era better than Dave Mirra. Your legend will always live on.
+Stephen Sharp I cannot put my finger on why it changed. So much money? Foam pits and resi boxes everywhere so no more putting your neck on the line (literally) just to try a flip? Feather light bikes? Maybe I am just older now and looking back on it with rose tinted glasses. However I still watch a lot of videos and I just don't care as much about someone whip-flairing off a curb. Videos were so expensive to buy, as much as £20 for a 20 minute video. Can you imagine people paying that now?! It just made the anticipation of waiting for a video release or a contest so much more exciting.
Here we are some 20 yeas later and watching this while listening to the Agent Orange song sends chills thru me wishing maybe Dave could have cried for help out loud. RIP Mirra.
+bedlambikes I really wish I could have told the guy how much I appreciated him in the weeks leading up to this. He's the reason I'm obsessed with bikes. You can see it coming on his Instagram, but hindsight is 20/20 :( We'll miss you, Dave. I can't make it through this video without getting choked up. He was the person I wanted to be, growing up as a kid in the 90s.
Rest in peace dave! Always look up videos of his riding over the times, one of the greats! Always wanted one of his signature pro models when I was younger! 👊🏻
I met you mirra in ‘03 at the target market deal in Minneapolis my dad was a flat land rider there, anyways ill miss you brother, i met you when i was like 5 years ild but i STILL have your autograph on the ps1 game
The guy took risks with his life and achieved more than most. Those risks ultimately caught up to him BUT, he lived his life on his terms. Something 99% of the population cannot claim. Thankfully his BMX career wasn't cut short. LEGEND!
Miracle Boy, you will be always in my memory and heart not only for your inspiration in BMX but I was born the same day as you, so next 4th of April when I turn 40 you where supposed to turn 42 ... RIP legend
Ride In peace miracle boy.. so sad.. I use to ride back then and we all looked up to him and even got a Haro bike.. I feel so sad for his wife and what she has to tell the kids that daddy went to heaven to ride.. so sad.. :( no matter how dark it gets there's always a bit of light somewhere to get help I know it might be hard and don't show.. what a sad way to go.. I feel like a part of my childhood broken down
the bmx community is different than other pro sports...if dave has just asked for help a bunch of guys would have been on the next plane to help him work thru whatever was bothering him.

The song is called 'a cry for help in a world gone mad' by Agent Orange. From the Living in Darkness album. Good album.

Music drowned out most of what Dave was saying.
No the best bmx rider ever is matt hoffman
No the best bmx rider ever is Big Boy.
I agree, Hoffman had a slight edge on dave in almost every way... He was also older and retired while dave and the sport kept progressing
RIP
