I read somewhere that originally, the NZlijn was meant to run along the Hobbemakade (next to the Rijksmuseum), so a cut and cover of some kind could be done in the wide canal. However, this is quite an affluent area, and lobbying from NIMBYs resulted in the current trajectory, which also turned out to be riskier and way more expensive.
This line has to be extended to Schiphol, Hoofddorp in t zuiden en Zaandam, Purmerend in t noorden. The omission of a station somewhere at the Tolhuis, in Noord, is rather stupid. Hopefully the builders made some preparatory adaptations for a addition in the near future. Th make Amsterdam a real metropole line 53 has to be expanded to Weesp, the new kid in town, and onwards to Almere/Hilversum. It is also possible to design a new line from Almere via Zuid-Oost, Amstelveen to Schiphol, Hoofddorp/Haarlem. Put your car away and keep Amsterdam above new sea levels is a must.
Construction delays and cost increases? Something would never happen in Germany... *cough cough BER Airport, Stuttgart 21, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg cough cough* Stuttgart 21 even has the same problem where people need to live in a hotel until their houses are repaird because Deutsche Bahn hat the brilliant idea of building massive tunnels under the historical city center, and under rivers. Because the new underground station needs to fit under the suburban trains on the left, and above the metro line on the right, the station is tilted and has an incline of 6 meters.... And a few years ago the city archive of Cologne collapsed into a metro tunnel that was under construction, killing 2 people in their homes. And with our typical justice system im Germany, if a big company does something no one is responsible for anything. We are great at building things with tunnels in Germany aswell... And people here complain about how other countries are way better at big infrastructure projects, although it seems everyone has the same problems.
That is the case everywhere! Ever heard of Stuttgart 21? That was the brilliant idea by Deutsche Bahn to take a central railway station and build it underground. Constructing kilometer long tunnels and bridges through mountains and underneath villages. Cost estimates: Few billion euros. Cost estimate now: 9 billion euros...
@@Hollandstation and the people supporting the project always downplay the cost. When overruns happen, you've already sunk so much money into it that you're really forced to complete the thing.
If only when bridging het IJ they would have thought to put in room for a bikers lane......... that would have saved the ongoing headache of the proposed bridges, including all extra costs. And yes it was possible, they are now building the biggest bike parking underground, exactly where most traffic crosses the IJ now via very old ferries that are stuffed to the brim. Back then they said there was no room to make an entrance to such a bike line. Uhuh, a bike parking is a much smaller construction. Don't miss my sarcasm here pls.
I agree that the old ferries are far from ideal. but I do understand the argument of room for an entrance. The slope of such an entrance has to be very long to get to the depth of the metro. Amsterdam doesn't like slopes at parking garages because "dutch people don't know what to do when encountering a slope". you could build a more maastunnel like system with escalators. build that is not that great I think.
Elevated line is ideal for the line Almere, Pampus (?) IJburg, A’dam ZO (Bijlmer ArenA), A’veen, S’hol Oost, S’hol West, Hoofddorp, Haarlem, Z’voort (A’dam a Zee)

Ah yes, a building sinking 0.5 cm in Amsterdam is a huuuuge issue, while buildings falling appart in Groningen is at most annoying...
true
Dredge the canals and use submarines.
Haha

The main reasons were the very challenging ground conditions. There's not much you can do about that

The initial budget gets always exceeded in the end, here in the Netherlands. I don't understand why they are always so bad in calculating the budget.
if you say you van build it for less then the rest, you get the job!
USA: Hold my BART and NYC extensions lol

The problem lies in that there is always someone who is good at calculating the lowest bid.

There is already a passengerline to Almere. The train!!
Das war ein weiteres lustiges und informatives Video über Amsterdam!
Danke Schön!
Nice video!
Thx!

That was very interesting! But please try to talk a bit slower/ more clearly please
Could be worse. Could have been Crossrail. lol
Yesss
Best metro in the world.
You are just being anti-Amsterdam..
It's a cool metro indeed!
Why not just build an elevated line?
I don't think a concrete viaduct will fitt in with the 17th century houses
